A 44 year old man was found hanging in a tree dead on Thursday at Botanic Garden within Mzuzu City at around six o’clock in the morning, police have confirmed.
Confirming the development, Mzuzu Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer, Cecilia Mfune, said the incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, 20th January, 2016.
“What happened is that on Wednesday night, Peter Kaunda went to sleep with his family at around 10 o’clock in the evening. However, in the middle of the night, the deceased went outside to answer the call of nature but did not return,” she said.
The deputy PRO further said when his wife saw that her husband was not coming, she followed him but he was nowhere to be seen. She then informed her neighbours who launched a man- hunt but they could not locate his whereabouts.
In the morning of Thursday around 6:00 o’clock, passersby found a man hanged to a tree and informed the police who rushed to the scene in company of a clinical officer.
The latter confirmed that Kaunda had died due to strangulation, according to police.
The deceased hails from Kayuni Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nyaluwanga in Nkhata Bay District.mana
