Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South West Peter Lewis Chakwantha has been arrested in the capital over alleged coup plot against President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
Chinkwantha who was reportedly seeking refuge at German Embassy in the capital Lilongwe handed himself to Police this morning.
MCP’s Deputy Secretary General Eisenhover Mkaka confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
Chakwantha together with Jessie Kabwila and Ulemu Msungama are alleged to have been discussing of how to overthrow President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika through whatsApp.
National Police Spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa has confirmed of the arrest of Chakwantha.
