Police in Kasungu are keeping in custody a 16-year-old boy for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl after making her drunk.
Kasungu Police Station publicist, Harry Namwaza, said the suspect was arrested on June 16, by community policing members.
According to Namwaza, the suspect identified as Joseph Banda on Saturday met the victim on the road as she was escorting a friend.
“After parting ways with a friend, Banda took the victim to a nearby shop where she bought him sweets and a bottle of beer ,” said Namwaza.
Banda then coaxed the girl to take a sip and eventually the girl got drunk.
The suspect then took the girl to Church where he raped her.
Banda will appear in court to soon to answers charges of rape contrary to section 132 of the penal code.
