MCP Councilor accused of defiling three girls denied bail

The Senior Resident Magistrate of the Child Justice Court sitting at Mzuzu Court has denied bail to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) councilor for Chibanja ward in mzuzu Charles Mlogera; who is accused of defiling three girls.

Mlogera was arrested on Tuesday after one of the girls tipped the police of the incident.

Appearing before the court, lawyer for Mlogera asked the Magistrate to grant his client bail arguing that it is a constitutional right.

In his ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Major Mbewe said it was the discretion of the court to grant bail, basing on circumstances of the case.
After assessing the gravity of the offence, Mbewe denied Mlogera.

Meanwhile the case has been adjourned to Thursday 20 October 2016.

Mlogera hails Kanjati village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kwataine in Ntcheu district.

He will answer three counts of defilement contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.
