Opposition MPs ask government to tighten security at Chakwera’s house

Opposition Members of Parliament on Wednesday asked government to tighten security of leader of opposition Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and Malawians in general, saying the recent attacks targeting well-known people and business players are scarily.

The request follows a robber attack targeting Chakwera at his residence in Area 9 in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The whole issue was started by Lilongwe North East MP, Maxwell Thyolera who asked Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Grace Obama Chiumia to make a statement if their leader and members are safe after armed thugs attempted to break into the house of Chakwera where they fired some bullets in the process.

The statement attracted cheering from opposition benches who were seen nodding their heads in support of Thyolera.

In her response, Chiumia said it’s a regrettable news to hear of the attack at Chakwera’s house, saying as government it is also concerned and sympathize with him.

She said it’s the wish of the government to see a safe Malawi and that each citizens of the country is safe.

Chiumia then promised the House that her ministry will investigate the matter and urge those with information to help authorities in order for them to bring to book those responsible.

Meanwhile Police are hunting for the thugs that invaded Chakwera’s house.
