Man in Dowa arrested for allegedly defiling 12yr-old girl

Police in Dowa have arrested a 34-year old man for allegedly defiling a 12-year old girl.

The suspect has been identified as Amos Mbewe, 34  of Chichitike village, Traditional Authority Chiwere in the district.

The suspect took the victim from her parents who were family friends in May, 2016. She had dropped out of school due to poverty and the suspect took her to support her to continue with her education.

However, Mbewe reportedly took advantage of the situation; he has been defiling the girl whenever his wife was away.

He threatened the victim not to reveal this to anybody until on December 4 2016 when the suspect defiled the victim again while his wife was away, and the girl went outside the house crying prompting neighbours to ask her what was wrong and she revealed to have been defiled.

The Matter was reported to Mvera Police Post and medical report from Salima District Hospital reveals that the girl was defiled.

The suspect has since been charged with defilement of girls under the age of 13 contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Cod
