Man arrested for being in possession of three fake K2000 bank notes

Police at Khunga police station in Nkhotakota have arrested a man who they suspect to have been found in possession of three fake K2000 bank notes.

The development comes barely a day after FaceofMalawi reported that a fake MK2000 bank note is in circulation in the country.

Khunga police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Laban Makalani has confirmed the development in interview with the press but denied to reveal the identity of the suspect.

Makani said revealing the identity of the suspect will jeopardize the police investigations.

Reserve Bank of Malawi Spokesperson Mbane Ngwira has confirmed of the availability of the fake MK2000 on the market.

Ngwira said the bank is doing everything possible to deal with those people who are producing the fake MK2000 bank note.
