Fletcher Kayiya’s son shot dead by Police in Blantyre

As thugs continue to cause havoc across the country, Police in Blantyre have shot dead an armed robber identified as Jonathan Kayiya, a son to well-known preacher in the country Fletcher Kayiya.

Blantyre Deputy Police Spokesperson Andrew Mayawo confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying the incident happened on Wednesday night.

According to Mayawo, the suspect was on police wanted list after escaping from police cell at Soche police last year.

Mayawo said Jonathan was spotted on Monday loitering in the commercial city and on Wednesday night police launched a manhunt and managed to apprehend him.

According to the Police, the suspect then tricked the police officers by telling them that he is having a friend who owns a riffle and urged them to follow him.

“While on their way, the suspect snatched a pistol from one of the police officer and he shot him on the arm.

“The incident prompted other officers to shoot him in self defence and he was later rushed to Queen Elizabeth of Hospital (QECH) where he was pronounced dead,” said Mayawo.

Meanwhile the injured Police officer has been admitted at Queens.
