All Video Show Rooms Near School Premises Will Face Closure To Protect Children – Kaliati

The government through the Minister of Civic Education and Community Development, Patricia Kaliati has warned all the people who run a business of video shows closer to schools that their businesses are at risk of being closed if they operate during school time.

pupils sneak out of classes to watch films in show rooms

Speaking at Mpingu in Lilongwe during a civic education meeting, Kaliati said that the video show operators should rather be starting their businesses at around 3 o’clock when most pupils have knocked off.

“We are warning those who are operating video shows which are closer to school premises that they risk closure as they are killing the future of Malawi as most of the children sneak out of classes,” she said.

Kaliati added that video shows are generating early pregnancies as well as early marriages as children are at risk of watching pornographic movies and they do put into practice of what they watch.

She also said the video show rooms are making people lazy since they spend much of their time in the show room instead of going to farms and etc.

district councils will be used to make bylaws to make sure the video shows do not operate before 3 o’clock so that children should be protected.
