MCP supporter dies in accident, five others serious injured

One Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporter is reported dead while five others have sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident on Sunday.

Nkhotakota police Spokesperson Williams Kaponda confirmed of the accident in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).

According to Kaponda, the accident happened at Mkhula Bridge in the area of senior chief Mwadzama in Nkhotakota.

The MCP supporters were travelling from Nkhotakota to Salima to attend a political rally organized by President of the party Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

“Upon reaching Mkhula Bridge the body of the lorry suddenly opened and passengers sitting on it fell on the road,” said Kaponda.

The deceased Sabiti Nkhoma hailed from Vinjenje village in the area of senior chief Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota district.

Meanwhile the survivors are receiving treatment at Nkhotakota District Hospital.
