Ame Private Secondary School students destroy shops at Mponela after fatal accident

Business came to a standstill at Mponela Trading Centre when students of Army Private Secondary School damaged property including shops to protest the death of a fellow student who was hit by a truck around 8am on Sunday.

The truck, LL 673 driven by Mustafa Rajab, hit a cyclist Thokozani Felton who was carrying a passenger Martha Wilson, a student at the school.

Wilson died on the spot.

The driver of the truck is in Police custody. The road has since opened up after the student protests.

According to Mponela Police PRO, some community members took advantage of the situation to loot, shops targeted included Mponela PTC.

7 people have since been arrested.
