Jalawe Bridge in Rumphi washed away again

Heavy rains being experienced in the Northern part has again washed away the Jalawe Bridge connecting Karonga and Mzuzu four days after it was rehabilitated.

The incident has left motorist and other road users stranded.

Police in Rumphi confirmed of the development in an interview with the press on Sunday, saying the incident happened around 3am.

On Wednesday last week, the country’s Vice President Saulos Chilima’s convoy spend a night on the road due to the similar incident.

Meanwhile the Road Authority (RA) has hired the services of Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers who are currently on the site working on the bridge.
