Senior Officers steal 450 Litres at Salima Hospital

Senior officers at Salima district hospital are suspected to have stolen over 450 litres of fuel, a development that has forced junior workers to threaten boycott work in an attempt to demand an explanation on the matter.

Fuel Crisis still irks Malawi

In a petition sourced by Face Of Malawi addressed to the District Health Officer, the concerned staff wonder why a few bosses stole the fuel meant for saving lives of critically ill patients in the event of blackouts.

The district health officer, Dr. Florence Bwanali confirmed receiving

“Yes I can confirm receipt of the petition on the concerns of fuel theft,” said Dr. Bwanali

Angered by the delay to brought the suspects to book, concerned staff at the hospital comprising of nurses, clinicians and other supporting staff, have given a seven day ultimatum to the management to give them a convincing explanation on what happened to the fuel or else they will start boycotting work.

“Management will abide by the staff’s demand and call for an immediate staff meeting before the end of the ultimatum,” said Dr. Bwanali.

As a result of the theft, the hospital borrowed K 40,000 from Maikhanda trust to buy fuel for the hospital.
