MEC Acting Chief Elections Officer Thandie Mkovole pronounced dead after collapsing in office

Death has been announced of Acting Chief Elections Officer of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Thandie Mkovole.

Mkovole died on Wednesday afternoon at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in the commercial capital Blantyre after collapsing while in office at MEC Head Office.

MEC’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa confirmed of the development in an interview with the press on Wednesday.

“It is with deep sadness I confirm that acting Chief Elections Officer, Thandie Mkovole sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing at work ,” said Mwafulirwa.

Mkovole was appointed as Acting Chief Elections Officer after the suspension and subsequent dismissal of Willie Kalonga over funds embezzlement allegations.

Meanwhile Mkovole will be laid to rest on Friday at HHI cemetery in Blantyre.
