A court in Nkhotakota has sentenced a 44-year-old Chisoni Kachingwe who is also a witch-doctor to 12-years in prison for raping a 12-year-old girl.
It is said that on January 25, 2017 the convict went to the victim`s home to give her herbs after she developed eye and hearing problems, according to the prosecuting officer Sergeant Cosmas.
It happened that the victim`s mother who had invited the witch-doctor was not at the house at that time hence Kachingwe got the chance to defile the young girl.
Sergeant Cosmas said, “He coaxed the girl and took her to a nearby bush and while in the act a passer-by noticed Kachingwe but the rapist fled.”
The following day, the witch-doctor was arrested.
In court, Magistrate Fred Chilowetsa said such practices are common and threatening the future of most young girls.
Later, Chilowetsa commanded the convict to serve a 12-year jail term.
The convict comes from Jinga village, Senior Chief Kanyenda in Nkhotakota. y
