A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison with hard labour for human trafficking and defiling a 15-year-old girl.
The man identified as Mike hardwell Banda had lied to the girl that a rich man`s son in Zambia is looking for a girl to marry in May this year.
According to Kasungu sub-inspector Edina nsingwitsa, the girl was taken up with the marriage proposal but instead the man took the girl to Chipata in Zambia where he reportedly defiled her 3 times.
The matter was reported to police after the victim had revealed to the general public.
Mr. Banda was charged with two counts of human trafficking and defilement.
The court has since sentenced Mr. Banda to 12 years in prison with hard labour on the first count and 10 years on the second count to run concurrently.
Banda hails from Kamphinda village in the area of Chief Kalumbu in Lilongwe.
