Ousted Guinea President Alpha Conde flies to UAE for medical treatment

Four months after his ouster, Guinea’s former president Alpha Conde has had his first taste of freedom after leaving the country.

According to the government, Conde was allowed to leave Guinea for medical treatment.

Conde was overthrown last September by a group of special forces soldiers led by Col. Mamady Doumbouya, who has since declared himself transition president.

Despite repeated demands and sanctions by the West African regional bloc ECOWAS, the junta refused to release him.

He was held for some time and later placed under house arrest since he was released to go to his home in the capital Conakry in November.

About two weeks ago, the junta confirmed that it had granted a request by his family and the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) to evacuate him for medical treatment.

There has been no word about the nature of his illness.

On Monday, an image released by the junta showed Conde, dressed in a black suit and flanked by two bodyguards, shortly before boarding his flight at the newly renamed Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport in Conakry. One of his bodyguards held a briefcase.

A second image showed the former president seated in the special flight, looking desolate.

Reports indicate that he was headed for the United Arab Emirates.

Authorities said the 83-year-old former president was given the option of identifying his choice of destination for treatment.

Conde’s departure has been met with mixed reactions in Guinea.

While some welcomed it, others are concerned that it could be the start of a life in exile. Those who are unhappy about him leaving want to see him face trial for his alleged crimes.

Conde was elected in 2010 in Guinea’s first democratic elections. He was re-elected in 2018 in a disputed poll.

He controversially changed the Constitution to allow him run for a third term, a decision that sparked weeks of protests resulting in deaths and destruction of property.

Being a so-called “good wife” is very subjective, and a subject much to human examination as to what matters, and what matters particularly to that person. Each person is different and has different needs and for some, for example, a narcissist may have a very different set of values, to begin with.

A good wife is someone kind, caring, and nurturing. A “good wife” to some degree is also very personal, as every husband will desire something a little different from another man.

Too often, women who in the name of feminism or some desire to fight the power of men, have taken up the qualities that typically are masculine. However, it’s usually the worst qualities. A good husband is not looking for a wife who exhibits the same qualities as he.

Men and women were designed differently for a reason. Women have to do better at protecting and promoting femininity. There is nothing shameful in being feminine, nurturing, respectful and submissive while also having a great career and being educated.

The former first lady of Guinea has proven to be a godly wife who will stick with the husband through the thick and thin. Alpha Conde will forever be grateful to have Madam Djene Kaba as a wife because she is virtuous and possesses the qualities of a caring woman.

Despite the commotion which occurred on the day of the coup, this former First Lady was never stopped showing sympathy towards her husband.

Although she fled and has been away for months, Madam Djene has officially returned to her husband upon his release from prison.

Coincidentally, it was her residence that the coup leader deemed it fit for Alpha Conde to be sent. Immediately news broke out of the transfer of Conde to Landreah, she quickly boarded a flight to attend to her husband.

It’s not clear what the junta leader hopes to achieve with the release of the former president.

Being taken to basic training is a big change in one’s reality and surroundings. This first part of basic combat training is discipline, which apart from the physical stress, is to align you with a standard form of conduct that is fit for an active soldier. You are essential to follow orders in the chain of command, act according to the manner, and set an example to others.

For a civilian to be forced to undergo mandatory military training, is essential for the country and the individual is expected to be transformed into a different being capable of following orders. The recruits that have the most difficulty are the ones who have trouble adjusting their comfortable reality to this new one. Additional benefits at this stage of training are that you are forced to forgo a lot of ego and part of the training is to get you to work in a “unit”.

Guinea’s interim President, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya as a disciplined soldier himself wants to impact the same level of quality into his selected ministers forming the cabinet. Hence, he has initiated military training program for his ministers to experience how it is like to be a soldier.

This initiative requires the participation of all cabinet members including the leader of government business, prime minister Mohammed Beavogui. He was delighted to lead his cabinet members and stated that “the army symbolizes discipline, toughness, and sacrifice. These three words will guide the transitional government of which I am honored to lead.”

Another advantage to basic training at the Kaleya Camp is that those ministers who are less physically fit are brought to a certain level of fitness that is standard endurance expected by the coup leader which qualifies an individual to occupy a position. Doumbouya wants to leave a lasting legacy.

You can be the most respectful and loyal soldier but when that other guy in your squad starts desecrating the uniform, he will taint your whole unit.

After you came back from your deployment, they called you a hero and you got a lot of medals and honors but was it really honorable to fight against the people of a foreign country just because of the love you have for your country and the uniform you wear.

Guinea Coup Leader Colonel mamady Duombouya’s strategies of war on corruption will prove to be effective if only he works with competent ministers who hate corruption.

Analysts have explained that the fight against corruption wouldn’t be an easy one and he has to start processes to prosecute Alpha Conde, the deposed President.

The military uniform serves as an honor for those who wear it and Doumbouya has given an order to his ministers forming the cabinet to as a matter of urgency wear the military, uniform to work. In addition, they were taken through drills which were all to instill discipline in them.

The reason for his new directive is that he is starting a new war on corruption, bad governance, and ethnocentrism, and all the evil that has plagued the country for so long a time.

So long as a country exist, it will surely have leaders elected by the populace, to run its affairs and their ultimate goal will be to achieve economic growth.

The dreams of the leader will be fulfilled if only cogent policies are implemented to better the lives of the masses.

It is the responsibility of the President to also make appointments and these individuals are expected to work harder to support him.

Doumbouya means business and is doing everything in his capacity as interim president for his beloved country.

In a crunch meeting with the selected ministers, Doumbouya gave firm instructions to members of his cabinet. This was the first time, meeting has been held since the formation of the government.

In a strong statement, the coup leader stated emphatically that no member of the transitional team will be eligible to contest in the next government.

This is to prove the genuineness of the junta’s plan for the country and demand accountability from civil servants.

The President can make an appointment that does not require a confirmation from any state institution. Every action of his appointees will come under scrutiny by multiple agencies.

These elected officials are to ensure continuous operation of the government until the President hands it over to a civilian government.

Any soldier must serve his nation and if need be, die on the battlefield. It takes courage and an enormous amount of love for a civilian to decide to join the armed forces. The time and costs needed to train a man with no combat experience into a combat-ready soldier along with the costs needed to outfit him with supplies such as armor, ammunition, food, etc. are far beyond what most people think.

It even becomes more expensive if that recruit can undergo the training and advance to complete additional vigorous training to become a special force soldier and that cost must be paid for every soldier. Special Forces are mostly detached from the regular army and in the developed world they are assigned to perform unique military missions.

These include counter-terrorism, surveillance, eliminating high-value targets, and conducting clandestine operations. However, on the African continent, various despotic leaders create these elite groups of soldiers to protect them and they are widely selected from the tribe or ethnicity they belong to.

They are well equipped with modern assault rifles and combat gear. In addition, they are somehow given some preferential treatment than another combat unit. It is believed by corrupt politicians that entrusting their security to these men, will enable them to sleep soundly and are assumed to be in safe hands. It is this false belief that inspired Alpha Conde to form the unit which he supposed will die for him.

Luck eluded the president when he was overthrown in a bloody coup by the special forces led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya. In a live interview on State television, the coup leader asserted that “I will give my life to these people who deserved it. And if we decided on September 5th to go to death, it is because we had seen the state of our country. And we all thought together of saving our country by giving our lives.”

“And I think it’s our duty as a soldier, as a patriot to fight and die once whether it’s political or physical to save the country.” From this statement, it is clear that the coup maker is bent on saving his country even in the face of death. May God strengthen him.

Guinea Junta Leader Doumbouya sacks Ghana’s envoy Mohammed Ibn Chambas and ECOWAS suspended him

All over the world, unions have been set up in various institutions and their sole purpose is to ensure that the welfare of members is guaranteed.

Those who join are always prospecting that in times of need, they will benefit from the resources available to the association due to the contribution of its members.

Then also, entities or individuals are obliged to adhere to the tenets of the union to be fully assisted.

Failure to meet the requirements, clearly suggests that all benefits will be forfeited. ECOWAS as a regional bloc does not condone coups and has clearly stated its position on any attempt to overthrow a democratically elected government.

It mostly condemns in the strongest terms military takeovers and demands an immediate return to constitutional rule just like what happened in Guinea and Mali.

Their swift action in denouncing coups is commendable but do they also warn the various Presidents to abide by the term limit and not to manipulate the constitution? Amending the law to grant them a third term in office also amounts to a coup.

Should we congratulate African presidents for having achieved the feat of showing the masses and the rest of the world that democracy is a weapon of mass destruction offered to politicians to massacre their people?

The coup maker has stood his ground against threats and sanctions from the regional bloc after it was suspended from the union. Then again the assets of the coup leaders were frozen and a travel ban was placed on them with their family members included. Ghana’s international mediator and renowned diplomat, Mohammed Ibn Chambas was chosen as ECOWAS envoy to Guinea.

Unperturbed by the move of the union, Doumbouya has also reacted to the sanctions by indicating that the presence of the envoy in the country will not be tolerated. It is believed by many Guineans that Mohammed Ibn Chambas was a staunch supporter of Alpha Conde’s third term.

The relationship between the junta and the bloc has strained. If the envoy is expelled and Guinea suspended from the union, who then will monitor the activities of the coup leader and advise him? Your views and comments are welcomed.

“Guinea can ‘solve own problems”, Interim Leader Col. Doumbouya Says

Guinea’s Interim leader Colonel Mamady Doumbouya said his country could “solve” its own problems, just days after the ECOWAS grouping of West African states hardened its stance against Conakry.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has suspended Guinea from the bloc and slapped sanctions against individual junta members and their families in retaliation for a September 5 coup that deposed president Alpha Conde.

It has called for the “unconditional release” of Conde, 83, who has been under house arrest since his ouster.

Worried about the impact on the area after neighboring Mali was also hit by two coups, the grouping has designated a special envoy for Guinea and called for elections to be held within six months.

In a televised interview on Sunday evening, Doumbouya said Conde was being treated well but that his future would be decided by Guineans.

The country’s new strongman, who was sworn in as interim president last month, said he was against the nomination of a special envoy as well as the six-month timeframe.

“I think we are intelligent enough to solve our problems together,” he said.

“This is not a country that is in crisis, it is a country that is in the process of taking its destiny into its own hands… If there was a crisis here, then a special envoy could be dispatched,” he added.

“We just want to solve our problems internally.”

He did not mention how long it would take for a return to civilian rule and denied accusations he was “purging” the government and institutions.

The junta has so far dissolved the government and institutions and replaced ministers, governors, and prefects with administrators and soldiers.

On October 6, Doumbouya appointed a transitional prime minister, Mohamed Beavogui, a former UN under-secretary-general.

Doumbouya, a 41-year-old former French legionnaire, accused Conde of corruption and authoritarianism when he seized power in September.

Conde became Guinea’s first democratically elected leader in 2010, but last year sparked mass protests when he changed the constitution to allow himself to seek a third term. Though Conde was re-elected, his critics denounced the poll as a sham.

Scholarship given to students are mainly on a merit basis and it is mostly awarded to needy but brilliant students.

Specific funds are set aside by various governments to support students who have performed brilliantly well in curricular and non-curricular activities.

Learners with the potentials that they have exhibited in school competitions are also recognized when it comes to assisting them.

Another group of people aside from the government or the institution which sponsors students are individuals or Nongovernmental agencies(NGOs).

Students can be eligible for scholarships if only they meet several conditions such as not being involved in any in disciplinary action.

They are to desist from stealing, fighting, absenteeism, lateness, and take their studies seriously. If they fulfill these conditions, they will get a scholarship.

The interim president of the transition, colonel MamadyDoumbouya has presented an award to students who were given scholarships and admonished them to be of good behavior. At the Mohammed V Palace, the students in their neatly worn attire were received by the coup maker.

He advised them by asserting “the future is open to you and it will be what you want it to be. Beware of laziness, and boldness that can cause all vices and always be excellent because excellent is the key to success.”

The saying that “the voice of the people is the voice of God” seems to have eaten into the minds of African leaders who are mostly deceived by the praises of their cronies and bootlickers.

They listen to a few sympathizers who are usually gullible to make conclusive decisions that later affect the general masses. As if the voice of the few represents all.

African politicians mistake false compliments for love and heed to voices of their supporters to their downfall. Alpha Conde repeatedly ignored the masses and decided to do the unthinkable.

The deposed president during the election to seek a third presidential term used some dictatorial tactics to proclaim victory. Internet connection was cut, security personnel was deployed to intimidate voters and afterward, the winner declared the election free and transparent.

Guinea’s electoral commission indicated that Alpha Conde won by 59% whiles his top contender, Cellou Dalein Diallo garnered 33.5%.

This was the third successive election in which the opposition leader had lost and was seen by many as a planned attempt to subvert the will of the people.

Sadly, Conde’s tribesmen who had been appointed to head various ministerial and military positions approved of his decisions and refused to denounce his actions. The anti-democratic stance, corruption, and human rights violations angered many but they weren’t bold enough to speak up until a fearless soldier emerged.

Disappointed in the administration of the President, the elite soldier Doumbouya who had been entrusted with the security of his boss staged a successful bloody coup. The President was ousted, kept in prison and today marks exactly two months and one week since he was deposed.

The question which remains is: will he ever be released? If not, then why hasn’t he been made to stand trial for the atrocities he committed during his tenure as president, and what is Doumbouya waiting for? Should anything happen to him while in captivity, wouldn’t that be disastrous for the country’s peace? Only time will tell.

It has become a normal practice in Africa now, where Presidents force out auditor generals and make them go on retirement because they investigate government officials who indulge in corrupt practices.

Mostly, they pay contractors for no work done, inflate the cost of projects simply because they benefit from the loot.

The actions of politicians are mostly to frustrate auditors and also force them into resignation because their cronies engage in pushing deals that don’t favor the poor masses.

It doesn’t come as a surprise as many presidents in Africa take their lessons from some past dictators who were indisciplined and exhibition of undemocratic showmanship.

That’s the nature of African leaders, they hate accountability which is mostly done by the Auditor Generals. They come to government as angels but behave in government as demons! African leaders are always uncomfortable when auditors are doing their work well.

But in Guinea, a new anti-corruption gentleman who is more than an auditor has emerged to pursue those who have embezzled state monies. The interim president has made it a priority to make anyone found culpable to have misused state funds or state resources to acquire properties illegally, to face the law.

Alpha Conde and his cronies are believed to have participated in acts that were treasonable and this included women from his RPG party. One of such is the influential woman Eva Kaltamba who has been prosecuted on a corruption charge and her property seized. This wonderful woman was the deputy chairperson under the RPG of Alpha Conde and she is sentenced to five years imprisonment.

In addition, the major of RPG who goes by the name Younoussa has also been jailed. He is also expected to serve 5 years in jail and his goods have been confiscated. The country will surely succeed with a genuine person like Doumbouya who hates corruption.

Doumbouya sacks Alpha Conde’s Police IGP from office: Orders him to proceed on mandatory retirement

There are various security services of the State which fall under the interior or national security ministry. Some of these institutions are the Fire, Immigration, Prisons, Customs, and the Police Service.

However, it is the Police Department that is entrusted with the internal security of the country and their mandate is to provide adequate protection for the masses against all forms of crimes and any infringement of their rights.

For the service to function properly, it requires genuine leadership and a competent officer who has gotten what it takes to bring about the needed transformation.

The topmost position of the Police Service is headed by the inspector general who is regarded as the senior-most person and is usually appointed by the politician.

African Presidents mostly select senior officers of the security institutions to do their biddings and often, these men come from their tribes or are related to them.

These chosen men mostly obey orders without hesitation to unleash terror on the masses even when they are not in favor of it but they just serve their masters.

The same thing occurred under the deposed President Alpha Conde when he instructed the security personnel including the police to clamp down on protestors after he had won a fraudulent election that was marred by electoral malpractice. During that period, the police chief was Ansoumane Baffoe Camara and he performed exceptionally well to quell the demonstrations.

Many people still remember what transpired on that fateful day which led to the deaths of several Guineans and have wondered why the leader of the police is still in office.

Doumbouya has done the unthinkable once again by removing him as the director-general of the Police Service. He is currently replaced by Abdoul Malick Kone.

He has not just been removed but ordered to proceed on mandatory retirement.

Guinea Coup Leader Col Doumbouya orders Alpha Conde’s party members occupying state houses to vacate with immediate effect

The Guinean interim leader Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, annoyed at the ruling elite of RPG party, has ordered the members of the deposed President Alpha Conde to vacate state premises they have occupied for many years.

This directive was given after the prominent members of RPG organized a forum to demand the release of Alpha Conde.

Doumbouya is bent on fighting corruption and will not tolerate any negative attitude from anybody.

The coup maker has all the unique qualities and is a proven honest man who will keep nepotism, corruption, arrogance, and flattery at a distance and always focused on the country’s development.

African politicians always appoint their cronies who live rich at the expense of the poor taxpayers and it is not surprising many of their supporters oppose any radical change which seeks to remove their leaders from office. The political atmosphere looks like a farm, everybody making his effort to reap what they have not sown and leaving the country impoverished. Our political system has a culture of nepotism that is deeply entrenched.

These regimes have been a miserable failure under the administration of corrupt leaders. Mostly, the President and his henchmen rule the nation as if it is their personal property and corruption has been accepted by them and their cronies. People are so fed up with the damage being caused by the administration and are determined to vote for the outcome of the next election.

Guinea’s interim President, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya has reminded the party members of Alpha Conde of how hypocritical they were and failed to speak the truth to him even when situations were difficult in the country.

In a meeting with them, he told them point-blank that “You all betrayed the president Alpha Conde and did not like him. If he is standing in front of you today, he will be able to throw himself on you.”

“Look at the state of our roads and tell me it is in the best of conditions.” He assured them that Guinea will never be the same again.

Those who were appointed to head the various ministerial posts were from his tribe and they failed to admonish him even when things were going bad.

Then again, his party members were also supporting his deeds even when he manipulated the Constitution to win a controversial third term in office.

Luckily, he won the elections and became the country’s president after many attempts. He ruled like any ordinary African President and didn’t make much of a difference in the lives of the masses.

In the next elections, he was re-elected for a second term and also didn’t initiate any positive policies to improve upon the living standards of the people but rather surrounded himself with his cronies and engaged in corrupt practices.

The deposed President of the Republic of Guinea, Alpha Conde was an advocate for democracy when he was in opposition.

He constantly championed reforms in the electoral process in his country and was an ardent critic of the various regimes that preceded him.

His activeness in the political space created the impression that he would be the best President when voted into power.

Unexpected visit by Coup Leader Col Doumbouya to Guinea topmost universities causes massive stir among students

Research conducted indicates that a huge number of conflicts that have bedeviled the African continent stems from tribalism or ethnocentrism.

Tribalism always comes to tear us apart and cheat us in our land and it is gradually destroying our beautiful continent.

Corrupt politicians are always trying to play the tribal cards when they get elected into power and put their undeserving brothers at the top.

Africans need to rise up and see beyond tribe and ethnicity. George Orwell once said, “those who correct the past, controls the future and those who control the future, corrects the past.”

The current interim President of the transition team, Colonel Mamady is a very intelligent officer who has identified the main problem with most African including Guinea, his motherland, and has decided to correct the wrongs.

In an unexpected move, he paid a visit to two of the country’s top universities.

The unannounced visit astonished most of the students with many of them expressing how happy they were to have in their midst the coup maker and his entourage.

The two universities which were honored by the coup leader were the Gamal Abdel Nasser University which is located in the capital Conakry and the General Lasana Conte University.

He was not alone during the visit but went along with the newly appointed female minister of Higher education and Scientific Research Dr. Diaka Sidibe. His security team accompanied him and it was really a wonderful scene to behold. The mission of the country’s leader at the school was to deliver a simple message to them.

Students were advised to eschew tribalism and ethnocentrism and cultivate excellence. Tribalism has the tendency to destroy the country and cause serious hatred among Guineans hence the need to develop love among themselves as students.

Guinea’s President of the transition Colonel Mamady Doumbouya is on the right track by selecting competent individuals to head the various ministerial posts. He must be commended for reducing the number of ministers from 36 under the previous government of Alpha Conde to 25. Guinea Coup Leader Doumbouya warns against ‘disturbing public order’

Guinea’s coup leaders accused political parties and activists on Thursday of “disturbing public order and social peace” in the West African country.

These groups aim to “undermine the peace and quiet of Guineans and damage the ongoing peaceful transition”, the junta, which calls itself the National Rally Committee for Development (CNRD), said in a statement read on state television.

Though the announcement did not name the allegedly destabilizing groups, it came after a press conference called by deposed president Alpha Conde’s party.

The former president of the National Assembly asked the junta to release Conde, 83, who has been under house arrest since he was overthrown.

A 41-year-old former French legionnaire seized power on September 5, accusing Conde of corruption and authoritarianism.

Lieutenant Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, sworn in as interim president last month, has promised to “re-found” the Guinean state and hold elections at the end of a transition period of unspecified length.

The junta has so far dissolved the government and institutions and replaced ministers, governors, and prefects with administrators and soldiers.

On October 6, Doumbouya appointed a transitional prime minister, Mohamed Beavogui, a former UN under-secretary-general.

Anyone taking part in the interim administration will not be able to stand in the polls, according to the junta.

African politicians use various tactics to avoid being audited due to the shady deals and corrupt practices they indulge in.

In most sectors, there is no transparency but mismanagement and dubious contract agreement have been signed.

The erstwhile government of Alpha Conde has been dissolved with its ministers and departmental heads fired.

In addition, to this, some Judges and military Generals who have been inactive service for so long a time have been ordered to proceed on mandatory retirement.

Many public officials of the former government have not given an account of their ministerial department’s business transactions but the junta has issued a strong warning.

Speaking in a press conference on Saturday, the Minister General of the President Colonel Amara Camara has posited that, public auditing of State institutions will be carried out and any individual or group of persons who will be grabbed for embezzlement of state funds shall face the law.

In strong words, he asserted that “if there was hijacking and robbery, we will be ruthless.”

This statement indicates how tough and displeased the military leaders are against corruption. The senior officer remarked that extensive auditing will soon commence and everyone will be compelled to provide proof of the expenses made. Proper documents backing their claims will also be demanded and woe betides anyone found culpable.

Politicians and their cronies unleash suffering on the citizenry by creating difficult situations while they live in luxury.

Many send their children to schools abroad, get overpaid and have offshore accounts, import expensive clothing, seek healthcare abroad, go on vacation in Europe whiles things continue to deteriorate.

This time around the man Doumbouya has come to make things work.
