In a viral clip making rounds online, Pastor Kanyari is seen calling Marion to the front of the congregation but what happened next left many stunned.
The Kenya Judiciary has issued an official statement to correct viral social media reports concerning the late Ms. Dorothy Muoma, following claims that she was a former Magistrate who died while living on the streets.

In a clarification statement released on February 19, 2026, Judiciary Spokesperson Hon. Paul Ndemo confirmed that Ms. Muoma was never an employee of the Judiciary or a Magistrate at Kitale Law Courts at any point in her career.

While the Judiciary extended its condolences to the family, the official record shows that Ms. Muoma was actually a qualified Advocate of the High Court, sworn in during 2003, who had previously served as an Assistant Registrar in the Attorney General’s office in Kisumu from 2010 to 2014.

The true story of Ms. Muoma’s life reveals a series of tragic health setbacks rather than professional disgrace. After graduating with a law degree from India in 1996, her pursuit of a Master’s degree was cut short by a 1997 accident that broke both of her feet.

Doctors attempted to resuscitate her, but she was declared dead at 8 PM following a rapid decline in her condition.

Family and colleagues have called for an end to the “hating” and “stereotyping” on social media, urging the public to respect her memory and the reality of her health struggles.

The Catholic Church in Kenya has introduced a new brand of altar wine for Holy Mass after concerns arose that the previous wine had become widely available in local bars and liquor outlets.

The new wine, labelled simply Mass Wine, features the coat of arms of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and carries an official signature to certify its authenticity. Archbishop of Nyeri, Anthony Muheria, told the BBC that the wine is imported, owned by the KCCB, and distributed only to dioceses. “The newly approved wine is not for sale at any business outlet,” he said.

     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

The move aims to preserve the sacredness of the wine, which symbolizes the blood of Jesus Christ during Mass. Previously, the altar wine had lost its exclusivity as it was sold widely in bars, hotels, supermarkets, and liquor shops.

After reviewing several options, the KCCB settled on a South African vintage. The wine was officially unveiled during this year’s National Prayer Day at the Subukia National Marian Shrine in Nakuru. Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba, KCCB chairman, confirmed that it will now be the only wine used in Mass celebrations nationwide.

“The fruit of the vine and the work of human hands will become our cup of joy,” reads the label on the new wine, reflecting its sacred purpose. Catholic leaders have instructed priests to discontinue the old wine and follow distribution guidelines for the new supply.

The introduction of the wine has been welcomed by many worshippers, who praised the move as a way to safeguard the sanctity of the Eucharist. Altar wine demand peaks during Easter, Christmas, and other major religious events.

Kenya has a significant Catholic population, estimated at around 10 million, or roughly 20% of the country’s population.

Christopher Auma and Kevin Barraza, both middle-aged, made a mutual decision to exchange their wives after both women were found to have engaged in infidelity.

The arrangement came after Lilian Weta, Kevin’s wife, confronted him for bringing another woman—introduced as his cousin—into their home.

Kevin defended his actions by claiming emotional abandonment, saying he felt like a widower because Lilian had been taken by another man.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has revised the death toll from Monday’s anti-government protests to 31, up from the previously reported 11, sparking widespread public outrage and demands for justice.

More than 100 people were injured and 532 arrested during the nationwide protests, which affected 17 of Kenya’s 47 counties, including the capital Nairobi, according to the commission. The protests, initially organized to mark Kenya’s long-standing struggle for democracy, quickly descended into violent clashes.

The UN Human Rights Office expressed deep concern over the “alarming number of killings” and condemned Kenyan police for using live ammunition and excessive force on civilians. UN spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani confirmed that weapons such as lethal ammunition, rubber bullets, tear gas, and water cannons were used on protesters.

Among the casualties was a 12-year-old pupil in Kiambu, reportedly struck by a stray bullet while inside her home.

The unrest comes amid heightened national tensions, following the recent death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody. Protesters many from the Gen-Z generation—took to the streets under chants like “Ruto must go” and “wantam” (short for “one term”), a demand for President William Ruto to leave office after just one term.

The KNCHR also documented incidents of looting, destruction of public and private property, and attacks on hospitals, including the theft of medical equipment and harassment of healthcare workers.

Despite the rising civilian death toll, Kenyan police still maintain the figure stands at 11, while Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen praised security forces for their handling of the situation, blaming the violence on criminal infiltration.

In response, opposition leaders accused the government of state-sponsored violence, alleging that armed gangs were transported in unmarked police vehicles to opposition strongholds. They have called for a national boycott of businesses linked to the Ruto administration.

“This regime is hostile. It cannot be reasoned with. It must be resisted. We will not rest. We will not retreat. We will not surrender,” the opposition declared in a joint statement.

Chief Justice Martha Koome warned that the continued violence threatens Kenya’s democratic stability, urging restraint from both protesters and security forces.

Since 2023, over 140 people have been killed in protests, according to a tally by The Star newspaper, raising urgent calls for an independent investigation into the use of force, arbitrary arrests, and loss of life.

The accident occurred on Tuesday evening and involved a university bus, Deya’s vehicle, and another car.

Police confirmed that Deya died on the spot. At least 30 people were injured in the crash, including his wife and a passenger in his car, as well as 15 students from the university bus. Siaya County Governor James Orengo described the crash as “horrific” and expressed his “deep sorrow and regret” over Deya’s death, confirming that one of the vehicles involved belonged to the county.

Images circulating online show the mangled wreckage of the vehicles involved, underscoring the severity of the impact.

Deya, 72, rose to prominence in the early 2000s after claiming he could help infertile women conceive through prayer. His church, Gilbert Deya Ministries based in the UK attracted a large following, especially among vulnerable women desperate for children. However, investigations later revealed that the so-called “miracle babies” were allegedly stolen from poor families in Kenya and passed off as divine conceptions.

In 2017, after a decade-long legal battle, Deya was extradited from the UK to Kenya on child trafficking charges. He was acquitted in 2023 due to lack of sufficient evidence. His wife, Mary Deya, had previously been jailed in 2011 after being found guilty of stealing a baby and falsely claiming it as her own.

Deya was a former stonemason who reinvented himself as a charismatic evangelist. He was consecrated as an archbishop in 1992 by a U.S. evangelist and went on to establish churches in the UK and across Africa. UK authorities, however, repeatedly investigated his operations, including the sale of olive oil falsely marketed as having healing powers.

The late MP David Lammy, now UK Foreign Secretary, once described Deya as a “modern-day snake-oil salesman who has conned and betrayed his vulnerable congregation.”

Despite legal troubles and criticism, Deya maintained his innocence and continued preaching until his death.

The United Nations has issued a stark warning as hundreds of thousands of refugees in Kenya face severe hunger, following major funding cuts by the United States that have slashed food rations to historic lows.

Felix Okech, head of refugee operations for the World Food Programme (WFP) in Kenya, said the situation in camps like Kakuma is deteriorating rapidly: “If we have a protracted situation where this is what we can manage, then basically we have a slowly starving population.”

Kakuma refugee camp in northwestern Kenya hosts over 300,000 people most of them fleeing conflict from across Africa and the Middle East. The impact of reduced support is painfully visible in the camp’s Amusait Hospital, where severely malnourished children lie on beds, their frail bodies struggling to survive.

Among them is baby Hellen, with wrinkled and peeling skin, and James, a nine-month-old boy whose mother, Agnes Awila from Uganda, says her children now eat just once a day. “The food is not enough,” she says. “If there’s no food, what do you feed them?”

     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

The WFP was forced to reduce food rations to 30% of the recommended daily intake after the US government formerly the agency’s largest donor cut foreign aid under its “America First” policy. The US had contributed around 70% of WFP’s funding for Kenya.

Refugees like Mukuniwa Bililo Mami, a diabetic mother of two from the Democratic Republic of Congo, say the aid reductions have destroyed both their diets and livelihoods. She depended on monthly cash transfers to buy vegetables and raise poultry for market. Now, with the “Bamba Chakula” cash program discontinued, her business has collapsed, and she survives on basic rations ill-suited to her health needs.

“I am grateful to receive this little food, but it is not enough,” she says. “We used to eat three times a day. Now we eat once.”

The ripple effect has also hit local markets. Badaba Ibrahim, a Sudanese trader in the camp, can no longer offer credit to hungry customers. “They will tell you, ‘My children have not eaten for a full day,’” he says.

Elsewhere, South Sudanese refugee Agnes Livio shares a single afternoon meal with her five children in a cramped shelter. “We used to get porridge for breakfast but not anymore,” she explains.

At the Amusait Hospital, malnourished children are being discharged back into a community with no guarantee of food. Without urgent donor support, WFP officials warn that the camp could face mass starvation as early as August.

“There are some signals from one or two donors,” says Okech, “but with the US missing and providing more than 70% before, the prospects are not good.”

As the humanitarian crisis deepens, aid workers and camp residents alike are pleading for renewed global attention before it’s too late.

Human rights activists have called on the Kenyan government to launch an independent investigation, raising questions over why Ojwang was arrested in Homa Bay last Friday and then transported over 350 kilometers to Nairobi, rather than being processed locally.

The case has sparked national outrage, with many Kenyans accusing the police of excessive force and abuse of power, especially against individuals critical of authorities online.
