Zimbabwe’s cabinet has approved draft legislation that could extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s time in office to at least 2030 through significant changes to the country’s electoral system and presidential term structure.

The proposed reforms would replace the current system of direct presidential elections with a parliamentary vote and lengthen presidential terms from five to seven years, while maintaining a two-term limit.

Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said the government plans to conduct public consultations before presenting the bill to parliament. The ruling Zanu-PF party holds a majority in both legislative chambers, increasing the likelihood of the proposals advancing.

Legal and constitutional experts, however, have raised concerns. They argue that altering presidential term limits would require a national referendum and contend that any such amendments should not benefit an incumbent president.

A woman in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe is receiving medical attention at Kwekwe Hospital after attempting to take her own life by consuming poison upon discovering that her husband had secretly married another woman.

The husband, Forbes Degwa, a senior manager at a local company, reportedly paid Lobola for his second wife without informing his first wife, Alice. Forbes formalized his union with Angeline Zvikomborero Mujanja on December 14 of last year, a revelation that left Alice devastated.

The incident occurred on January 8, when Angeline, the second wife, reportedly informed Alice about the lobola payment, triggering Alice’s drastic decision. Alice, deeply hurt by the betrayal, drank poison in an attempt to end her life.

When contacted by H-Metro for comments, Forbes initially evaded questions and later disconnected the call, stating, “Who gave you this information? Can I call you back in 15 minutes?”

A source close to the matter confirmed that Angeline was indeed married to Forbes on December 14 and that she had informed Alice, which led to the dramatic turn of events. The source further revealed that Alice, overwhelmed by the betrayal, resorted to drastic measures.

Alice, an orphan who grew up under the care of her late grandmother, has faced significant emotional burdens throughout her life, with this recent betrayal adding to her challenges. She is now fighting for her recovery as she continues to receive treatment at the hospital.

We had no children for the first two years, but eventually, she got pregnant, and we had a baby.
Reflecting on the emotional toll, John explained, “I lost all my dignity because of her behavior. After a heart-to-heart, we decided to part ways peacefully. That’s why we decided to play music and celebrate. We wanted our neighbors to understand that we’ve finally found peace. I let her take everything, and now I’m ready to embrace a new chapter in my life.”

The unusual way the couple chose to end their marriage has left the neighborhood buzzing, with some still processing the decision to celebrate such a painful moment with music and dancing.

Sarah Mutero, a 49-year-old sex worker, has decided to retire after 23 years in the industry. After leaving her job, she was gifted a piece of land in her hometown, and some kind-hearted individuals have promised to help her build a house.

Stanley Ngara, also known as the King of Condoms, praised sex workers for their role in the fight against HIV and AIDS, noting that many refuse to engage in unsafe sex even for higher payment.

Sarah, who has served around 28,000 men over her career, shared that her earnings were often modest and mostly used to support her children’s education and clothing. While she once saw up to 20 clients a day, her workload reduced as she aged, and she now hopes to live a quieter life with her two sons.

Sarah noted that younger women are now taking over the sex work industry and expressed her desire to set an example for older sex workers to retire respectfully.

ZIMBABWE – A dramatic confrontation unfolded in Murewa on Monday between an individual known as Professor, nicknamed “The Moneychanger,” and Marozva, a soldier, over a paternity dispute that has stirred the local community. The altercation, which took place in Murewa Centre, was sparked by a woman whom Professor married after she eloped last year while pregnant.

According to Murewa TV, after the woman gave birth, Marozva, who had previously been involved with her, began to assert his claim as the biological father of the child. This led to a heated argument and a physical altercation between the two men, with tensions running high as they fought over the child’s paternity.

According to footage shared by Crimewatch Zimbabwe on X (formerly Twitter), the man was violently confronted by a group of angry husbands, members of the Mapostori sect, who pinned him to the ground and struck him with rubber sticks.

The intense video shows the men questioning the accused, demanding answers about his actions. “How many women have you been with, and why did you do this?” one of the husbands can be heard asking, as the man lies restrained and vulnerable.

The news about Sisasenkosi Mpofu’s decision to abandon her husband, Mbongeni Moyo, to spend the night with another man has captivated online audiences and sparked a wave of discussions on the internet.

According to B-Metro, after the wedding ceremony, Sisasenkosi Mpofu reportedly left her husband to spend the night with her secret lover, Geshom Gwatiringa, a police officer stationed at Hillside Police Station.

Moyo, a church elder at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Iminyela branch, was bewildered when his new wife returned the following day without an explanation for her absence.

Faced with the evidence, Mpofu confessed, admitting she had spent the night with her lover. This revelation escalated the situation, leading to a violent confrontation.

In the days following the incident, Moyo allegedly conspired with his brother-in-law, Fungai Mpofu, and friends Prosper Ndlovu and Allen Munhuru to confront Gwatiringa. They arrived at Gwatiringa’s home around 1 a.m., where they accused him of infidelity.

“They went to Geshom’s place and arrived at around 1 am. They found him sleeping with his wife. They knocked at the door and he came outside. One of the accused persons grabbed Geshom by his neck accusing him of cheating with a married woman,” prosecutor Christina Manyika reported during the court proceedings.

Following the incident, a police case was filed against Moyo and his accomplices, leading to their arrest. They recently appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze, facing charges of attempted murder, to which they pleaded not guilty
