A 12-year-old boy, identified as Yankho Matupa, is recovering from severe burns in Neno District after his father burned him with fire, accusing him of losing a generator part.

Speaking from Neno District Hospital, Yankho explained that his father pressed his hand into a fire after he denied taking the missing part.

The boy’s grandmother, Ivy Clemence, said she was shocked to hear the child screaming in pain. When she asked the father what had happened, he casually replied, “I burned him.”

Yankho is currently receiving treatment at Neno District Hospital. He hails from Chilombo Village, Group Village Head Kaluphya, in the area of Traditional Authority Chekucheku in Neno.

Police have not yet confirmed the arrest of the father.

An 11-year-old Nigerian girl has stirred reactions after she listed out all the men who allegedly raped her despite being a minor.

A journalist who based in Port Harcourt identified as Martha Okere shared the list on her facebook page.

In the list, the lady mentioned some uncles and other people who stayed in the same neighborhood with her.

This has however generated mixed reactions as many called for the identification and arrest of the men named in the list.

A baby was shot and killed on Monday, Jan. 24, during a shootout in the USA.

The six-month-old was a passenger in a car before being caught up in a shootout in Atlanta, Georgia.

Baby Grayson Matthew was in the back of his mother’s car when his mother came across a gunfight between two people in nearby cars.

A bullet traveled into the back of the car and hit the baby.

The shooting happened near a school and a convenience store in Atlanta.

Though the child was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, he was pronounced dead there, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

It was not immediately clear if anyone had been arrested.

Police Chief Rodney Bryant did not provide details at the scene but said the mother was “riding down the street and became a victim to gun violence,” the newspaper reported.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, who went to the scene, remarked that “children are bearing the burden and the pain of adults who are choosing to use guns to solve disputes,” the Journal-Constitution reported.

“The children are bearing this burden with their lives and I´m here to ask and demand that it stop right now,” he said.

A 7-year-old girl sells lemonade to raise money for her life-saving brain surgery.

Liza Scott, an adorable 7-year-old girl, set up a lemonade stand to help her parents raise money for her brain surgery, Newsner reports. The brave little girl knew her life-saving operation would cost a fortune, so she decided to help her mom and dad in such difficult times.

Liza’s mom Elizabeth Scott, 41, from Alabama, told Today:

“She just said she wanted to go to the bakery and start selling lemonade to help her get her surgeries. I just said, ‘Well that’s fine. You can go set up your lemonade stand,’ not really thinking it would amount to much.”

The little girl has three brain malformations, and she needs surgeries to survive.

One night, about a month ago, Liza’s mother found her gasping for air. She first thought her child was having a nightmare, but it turned out Liza was having seizures. Elizabeth explains:

“With more testing, they determined it was not just irregular brain activity, that there was actually something more serious.”

However, the doctors were unsure of the exact cause that triggers the seizures. Scott adds that they will find out only after they treat the vascular malformations.

Tragically, the child suffers not one but three brain malformations – a schizencephaly, a parietal arteriovenous malformation, and a dural arteriovenous fistula. Since there are only a few specialists who can perform the surgeries she needs to live, she and her parents will have to keep traveling to Boston Children’s Hospital from her home in Alabama. Unfortunately, the insurance Scott has is not enough to cover all the costs.

When Liza found out her family needs to raise money for her surgeries, she decided to help.

At only 7-years-old, Liza was aware enough to know how difficult it would be for her parents to cover the costs during her visits to the hospital. So, she decided to set up a lemonade stand and raise money to help them.

Her mother encouraged her and built the lemonade stand, where little Liza sells a glass of the refreshing drink for 25 cents. Elizabeth also created a Mighty Cause page raising donations for her girl. Surprised by all the support she receives online, she shares:

“It just keeps pouring in. That’s just an unbelievable amount of love and support. There aren’t even words. It’s hard to wrap your head around it.”

Kindhearted donators helped the family raise over $380,000. Meanwhile, the courageous little girl raised $15,000 in cash while selling lemonade. Her grateful mother says:

“We’re excited for her and we’re sharing her success with her but we also want this to be a learning opportunity to understand grace and kindness. She definitely feels special. She’ll have ongoing medical care for years because she’ll have to have MRIs and angiograms, and medication for the long haul. We have a long road ahead but we’re going to fight it and do what we have to do to make sure we stay well.”

With some of the extra money the family raised, they will try to help other families who need financial support with their children’s medical care. Elizabeth adds:

“Liza loves to help others. We would love to be able to help other families in our shoes — once we’re past the big hurdles.”

Family and loved ones described Lilly-Jo Cаldcott as a ray of sunshine.

And just like any other teen, she loved spending time with friends and family and going on nature trips.

But when the little angel from Worcester, England, started to isolate herself and stopped eating, her mother could not help but think that something was not right.

But she never imagined that it would go as far as it did…

After attending middle school for a few weeks, Lilly-Jo suddenly did not want to step foot in school anymore. She told her mother she was having a hard time with another girl from school.

And the bullying was both physical and psychological.

Sadly, it only got worse

Every day at school was a painful struggle for Lilly-Jo, and eventually, she stopped eating and made herself ill.

Her mother told Worcester News that for a period of 12 weeks she had visited the school every day to try and find a solution to the problem, but the bullying did not stop.

In a letter addressed to the school principal, the desperate mother described the horrors her daughter was going through.

“She has pulled her hair, pushed her, smacked Lilly-Jo and also shut a locker door on Lilly-Jo’s head, stamped on her foot when it was broken – the list is endless.”

A couple of weeks more and she would have been dead…

Then on a Monday afternoon, the child was taken to see a doctor after she told her mother she had taken a large number of pills.

And after Lilly-Jo showed signs of disorientation, the doctor told Jess to take her to emergency care, where she spent the night. Thankfully, by the next morning, her condition stabilized.

“I’ve got a daughter now in hospital on her birthday on different drips and being examined by mental health doctors,” Jess said.

Sadly, a once filled with life girl had been reduced to trying to commit suicide.

“The doctor said if we had left her two more weeks, she would be dead. I’m not going to bury my child,” the mother added.

Lilly -jo has been a victim of #bullying at the age of 10 and tried taking her own life.

Eventually, Lilly-Jo was taken out of the school and now she feels much better.

27-year-old Jess said she got in touch with the bully’s parents one day before and they called the cops.

“I got hold of the mother’s number and rang her to try and resolve this out of school and she basically told me her daughter has done nothing wrong,” Jess told Worcester News.

“I rang again on Sunday and the mother and father were laughing down the phone, saying it was a joke.

“They egged me on to go to their house, so I did and they called the police,” she said.

The school principal said after being made aware of the bullying immediate action was taken.

“This school takes all allegations of bullying extremely seriously, this includes racist, homophobic, gender-based or bullying related to disabilities,” the principal said.

“Our school maintains a strict anti-bullying policy.”

The Association of Social Workers in Malawi (ASWIM) has bemoaned the tendency of careless posting of images of children found in various unfavourable circumstances such as stealing and rape on social media platforms.

The association’s acting National Coordinator, Edgar Kasiyafumbi, said there is an increase in uncensored images being posted by members of the public on social media platforms without protecting the identity of children.

He said the association is greatly concerned with the way children’s images are being circulated on Facebook and whatsapp groups without any regard to protect their identities.

“Children are a protected category of human beings; as such they are supposed to be treated with dignity.

“The practice can pose a danger to children as it might give advantage to unscrupulous people to abuse the children in question or make use of the unverified identities disclosed by the public to claim the children,” said Kasiyafumbi.

“We are in a world where there is an increase in the number of human trafficking, therefore, perpetrators may also take advantage to target those children who are paraded on social media by irresponsible members of the public,” he cautioned.

One of the concerned parents in Area 18 Senti, who sought for anonymity, said one of her tenants’ daughters was raped by a 16- year-old boy from within and the video went viral on social media revealing faces of both minors.

She said parents from both sides had no control because of ignorance and thought by doing that, justice would be served quickly.
“I was there when the incident happened. One of the neighbours started shouting, calling for people to come and see what had happened.

“The three year-old girl was there being captured in the presence of the parents who do not know anything about what the law says.

“The video went viral and risked the life of that innocent girl because some people may continuously desire to rape the girl out of curiosity since she has been through that already,” said the woman.

On her part, mother of the three year-old girl, who also sought for anonymity, said she was out for a piece work within the area and the boy took advantage of her absence to rape the child.

She said she only came to know about the issue when some neighbours caught the boy in the act.

“I was called from where I was and was told of the incident. They were people taking videos at the scene of the incidence but it never crossed my mind to protect my daughter,” said the mother.

She said after the video was posted on social media, a lot of people came forward, some to help and others just to see for themselves which later became a shame to the family.

“It was as if there was a sick child in the house. We had people visiting one after another and we had explained the same issue now and again to people who at the end of the day didn’t offer any help,” she said.

However, Kasiyafumbi reminded the public there are institutions that look into children’s issues.

“We want to remind the public that there are institutions mandated to look into children’s issues, so it is better that the public should involve such agencies whenever there is an issue concerning children,” he said.

As a way forward, the association wants to push for a review of the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act of 2016, so that it includes specific sections to punish those found posting uncensored images of children on social media, especially those in difficult situations.

Cconcurring with Kasiyafumbi, Chairperson for Nongovernmental Organisations Coalition on Child Rights (NGO CCR), Desmond Mhango, said his organisation would engage Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) to regulate such matters in the country.

“We are appealing to government to revise electronic system which would monitor circulation of such pictures of children,” he said.

ASWIM has since advised the public to desist from posting any video with minors in it as victims.
