A 39-year-old hospital cleaner has been arrested in Mpumalanga province after being found with a bag full of human placentas, police have confirmed.

The suspect, Rose Mnisi, who works in the maternity ward of a local hospital, was allegedly seeking buyers for the human tissue when she was intercepted by security officers acting on a tip-off.

“Upon being approached by police, the woman was caught with human tissues. The woman confirmed that she is a cleaner in the maternity ward,” police said in a statement.

Mnisi was arrested while hitchhiking toward Nelspruit and was carrying several placentas in a plastic bag. The body parts have since been sent for forensic analysis.

She appeared in court on Thursday, facing charges of illegal possession of human tissue. Police said more charges could follow as investigations continue.

Mnisi is expected back in court next month for a bail hearing.

Authorities have not disclosed what the placentas were intended for, but in some communities, human body parts are linked to traditional rituals, while others claim without scientific evidence that consuming placentas can boost breast milk production or reduce postnatal depression.

The case comes just weeks after a Mozambican traditional healer was arrested in Tshwane with human body parts linked to the brutal killing of a young woman in 2023.

A young man from Nambazo in Phalombe District, identified as Alfred Mwavuwa, who served as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Nambazo Youth Club, has tragically passed away under circumstances suspected to be suicide.

Phalombe Citizen Journalist Sasinu Soka confirmed the sad news by describing Alfred’s passing as a devastating loss for the youth club.

“He was a calm and peace-loving individual who avoided conflicts. Alfred offered valuable advice during our meetings and was diligent in managing all club information as our PRO,” Soka said.

Police are currently investigating the matter to determine what led to Alfred taking his own life.

A 12-year-old boy, identified as Yankho Matupa, is recovering from severe burns in Neno District after his father burned him with fire, accusing him of losing a generator part.

Speaking from Neno District Hospital, Yankho explained that his father pressed his hand into a fire after he denied taking the missing part.

The boy’s grandmother, Ivy Clemence, said she was shocked to hear the child screaming in pain. When she asked the father what had happened, he casually replied, “I burned him.”

Yankho is currently receiving treatment at Neno District Hospital. He hails from Chilombo Village, Group Village Head Kaluphya, in the area of Traditional Authority Chekucheku in Neno.

Police have not yet confirmed the arrest of the father.

Police in Chiradzulu have arrested 43-year-old John Tebulo, accusing him of killing a three-year-old child after the child trespassed on his land.

Chiradzulu Police Spokesperson, Cosmas Kagulo, reported that the child’s parents had taken him to the field nearby, leaving him to rest while they worked. Upon waking up, the child began searching for his parents and accidentally crossed into Tebulo’s land.

Tebulo, displeased by the trespass, allegedly took a stick and started beating the child. The child was rushed to the hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The community became enraged and attacked Tebulo, who was later rescued by the police. He sustained injuries in the attack and is currently receiving medical attention.

The incident occurred in Likhomo village, under Traditional Authority Sandrack in Chiradzulu district.

Police in Chiradzulu have arrested a man with a mental illness suspected of killing a three-year-old child early this morning.

According to Chiradzulu Police Officer-in-Charge Henry Kalungu, the incident occurred in Likhomo village under Traditional Authority Mchema. Reports indicate that the child was following their parents, who were farming in a nearby field, and crossed through the suspect’s garden.

It is alleged that the suspect became angry when the child trespassed through his garden. He then reportedly took a knife and attacked the child.

Following the incident, angry community members stormed Milepa Police Station, breaking windows in an attempt to force the police to release the suspect so they could deal with him themselves.

Order has since been restored in the area, and the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Lilongwe Police has recovered stolen 42 bags of cement, 30 IBR iron sheets worth K3.8 million after two security guards connived with other accomplices to murder a fellow guard at Lilongwe Muslim Sports Club on 14 November 2024.

Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Hastings Chigalu said the two suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Jailosi, 33, and Edward Matiyasi, 34, both security guards, while their accomplices who are currently at large, have only been identified as Thoko and Gift.

On the said date, having connived with on duty security guards to go and steal the cement and iron sheets at night, the runaway suspects (Thoko and Gift) broke into a room which kept the items at Lilongwe Muslim Sports Club in Area 2.

However, they met strong resistance from Mackenzie Pindeni (slain security guard), who opposed to the arrangement. The scenario prompted his fellow security guards to assault him to death to conceal the incident.

After a thorough analysis of the crime scene following the murder and robbery, detectives detained the security guards who denied any involvement, and suspiciously claimed to have escaped their colleague’s fate.

But a further probe into the incident discovered that the security guards were involved and masterminded the crimes.

And, using top-notch intelligence, Lilongwe Police detectives located the whereabouts of the items, and recovered them from two individuals in Mtandire location where money had already exchanged hands for the property.

At the meantime, police have intensified manhunt for the two runaway suspects, Thoko and Gift, to arrest them.

The two security guards will be charged with murder and robbery.

Emmanuel Jailosi comes from Bembeke Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kamenyagwaza, Dedza, while Edward Matiyasi hails from Khongoni Village, T/A Chimutu in Lilongwe District.

A 19-year-old man, Bright Ndekha, has been sentenced to five years in prison for pulling off timber from a critical bridge at Miseu Folo in Chikwawa.

Makande Magistrate’s Court found Ndekha guilty of an act that endangered the lives of road users on the M1 road.

The incident occurred at Mikalango Bridge, where Ndekha was caught in the act by passengers traveling in a minibus from Nchalo to Ngabu. During the court proceedings, Ndekha pleaded guilty to the charge of intentionally endangering the safety of road users, contrary to Section 237 (b) of the Penal Code. He pleaded for leniency, stating that he is the sole breadwinner for his family.

However, prosecutor Bruno Jobo highlighted the severity of Ndekha’s actions, stressing that his conduct could have caused harm to many people.

First Grade Magistrate Chiyembekezo Phiri, in his ruling, sentenced Ndekha to five years in prison.

Bright Ndekha hails from Nyaekha Village in Traditional Authority Ngabu, Chikwawa.

A 20-year-old mental patient from Chibolya B Compound in Itezhi-Tezhi District has been allegedly defiled by a man only identified as Collins, believed to be aged between 45 and 55.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka, has confirmed the development and said the incident occurred on 25th March, 2024, and reported the next day by mother to the victim.

Daka explains that on the fateful day around 19:00 hours, it was discovered that the victim was missing from home.

He says relatives searched for her but she could not be found and she only came back home the following morning around 06:00 hours.

Daka states that when put to task by the mother, the victim revealed that she spent the night with Collins on the same bed.

He says the suspect has fled his home and police have launched manhunt to arrest him.

Naperi is one of the most well-known urban area in the city of Blantyre and it has a lot of well to do people such as business people and company owners. People leaving in this area have been complaining about thieves disturbing thier peace since last year December.

Philip Kamwala not he’s real name who leaves in Naperi and during our interview said he was attacked at the beginning of this month by a group of men.

According to Philip, he was attacked outside of he’s house, he was calling he’s friend for a meet up.

When the thieves saw him that he answering a phone they started following him but he did not notice that those men were following him because it’s a road that people use so he thought the men were just passing by. Before he knew it, his phone was no the ground according to Philip he thought it was one of his friends that took the phone from his ear.

When he tried to pick the phone on the ground he so another man trying to pick up the phone too. The man took the phone but lucky enough Philip was able to catch him. He started fighting with the man to take back he’s phone but since the man wasn’t alone he gave the phone to one of his colleagues and there started runing away with the phone.

He started shouting for help since he was on the phone call with his friend who is also his neighbor his friend heard everything was happening and he came out to help him. They started chasing the thieves.

He also added that the time people were chasing the group of thieves people tried calling the police but they did not show up. After the incident he went to police to make a statement.

Hiwa stays in Naperi Studio K hostel around where Philip stays. She was attacked by two men as she was coming from Kamba market and that was around 6:00 PM the same time Philip was attacked.

“We are leaving in fear. Every time we go out we have to make sure we go back at the hostel in good time maybe around 4:00 or 4:30PM which is impossible because we are student and sometimes our classes end at late hours” said Hiwa.

Although Naperi has neighborhood and Police unit, thieves are still disturbing the area said Miss Zee from Zingwangwa who came to visit her baby sister at hostel on Saturday 23 March.

“The thieves smashed my wind screen when l was in my baby sister’s room and took my pace that had ATM cards,” said Miss Zee

Mr Kachikho not he’s real name is an electrician and has a shop in Naperi studio k said: “I am also a victim here. The thieves broke my shop and stole a TV and microwave. I was forced to pay back the owner of the TV and microwave since they brought them to me to fix but in the process the thieves stole them.”

“We are asking the police and the neighborhood to help us protect the area since it’s getting worse each and every day. We are living in fear since a day can’t go without hearing news about thieves attacking someone in the area “said Kachikho.

Kachikho further said that criminal cases are increasing in Naperi especially around studio k because of the hostel and bars.

“Thieves take those places as their hide out places, other thieves pretend to be like students and others like they have come here to drink.Life is real hard this days and a lot of people are jobless so the only option for them is stealing to survive since it’s hard to find job here in Malawi,” he added.

The thieves do not only steal night hours only but also in the after noon, Said one of the student at Malawi University of Business and Applied Science (MUBAS) Josephine Banda.

“It was around 3:00PM I was escorting my friend who visited me at the hostels and l did not close my room with keys just closed my door since l was around. But when l got back to the hostel and entered in my room l found out that my phone was missing.When l asked my roommate said she did not see it.

“But when l asked other people around the hostel, one girl said she  so a strange man entering my room but he thought he was my friend and l concluded that his the one who stole my phone” said Josephine.

Effort to talk to police spokesperson on the matter proved futile.

A clinician working at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe has been arrested by Lilongwe police for allegedly stealing electronic devices at the facility.

Public Relations Officer for Lilongwe Police Hasting Chigalu has confirmed the arrest of the clinician who has been identified as Alinafe Likangwa.

Likangwa, who owns a stationary and photocopying shop at Gologota Trading Centre in Area 23 in the capital city was found stealing computers, scanners, printers and other gadgets.

It is reported that a computer hard drive, monitor and CPU in the Out Patient Department (OPD), where the suspect works, went missing one by one in December last year.

“However, in the first week of January 2023, the suspect, reported to work with KCH already printed documents, a thing that brought suspicion to other workmates,” explained Chigalu.

Chigalu said the police instituted their investigations after receiving a complaint and they managed to recover the gadgets from a woman whose identities have been hidden.

According to Chigalu, Likangwa was hiding the stolen gadgets to the woman’s place.

Likagwa, who hails from Mayani Village, Traditional Authority Tambala in Dedza District, will appear in court to answer a charge of theft by a public servant.

Likangwa will soon appear before court to answer charges levelled against him.

Bessie Durham, 63, who worked as a janitor for KBS, a facility management company was found in the Belk Department Store bathroom, where surveillance footage showed her entering four days before her body was discovered.

Lexington County, South Carolina, Coroner Margaret Fisher told PEOPLE Durham died of natural causes.

Columbia City Police confirmed to The U.S Sun no foul play is suspected but friends and family have said there were a number of red flags that were missed as her body was not found sooner.

A Cape Town mom’s decomposed body was found under the bed of her neighbour who had been helping search for her.

Jaun-Paul van der Westhuizen, 32, allegedly mislead the family by saying he saw her in different places.

The victim was then stabbed in the neck and abdomen.

He fell back into the shop entrance bleeding heavily.

The victim was taken to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Speaking to ABC7, shop employee Kharef Alsaidi said: “It was just about not saying ‘thank you’ for opening the door for him.”

He said the victim asked: “Why don’t you say, Thank you for opening the door?”

The employee said he had tried to deescalate the problem and get the suspect to put the knife away but it did not work.

Police are currently searching for the suspect.

Another dog bite incident took place in Kerala’s Kozhikode district wherein a stray dog attacked a class 7 boy. The video from the incident shows a street dog brutally attacking the 12-year-old boy in front of a house.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when the boy stopped near a house to greet his friends. This comes amid a spike in the number of dog bite cases across the country.

The visuals show a stray dog leaping at Nooras, who was riding a bicycle at the front of his house in a narrow lane near Govinda Vilasam School at Arakkinar.

The canine bit the boy on the hand and when Nooras tried to fend off the animal, it dragged him and pounced on him. After a few seconds, the boy managed to get inside his friend’s house.

As per reports, the boy suffered bite injuries on his leg and hand and has injury marks on his face and chest. The same dog had reportedly attacked four people on Sunday in Kozhikode.

Supreme Court on stray dogs 

On September 10, the Supreme Court had suggested people who routinely feed stray dogs could be made responsible for their vaccination and also liable to bear the costs if those animals attack people, while emphasising on a need to find a solution to the stray dogs` menace.

The top court said a balance has to be maintained between the safety of people and animal rights. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and JK Maheshwari, said “some solution has to be found.”
