Designing a home is not an easy job. It requires careful planning and also proper survey of an area to make sure that the design of the house will not be affected by natural factors.

For example a design for a house on a sandy area can be totally different from a design on a rocky area. A certain picture has been doing the rounds on social media of a family that decided to build a house where there was a huge tree.

In most cases it would be proper to cut down the tree and build the house nicely. This particular family however decided to preserve nature and they built their house with the huge tree inside their kitchen area.

There were multiple reactions on this particular design with a lot of people totally against the idea. Most people were concerned about the fact that the roots might keep growing longer and would end up even damaging the house.

“This is pretty, but risky. The tree ain’t dead. If it was, it would start to decay. It’s roots would decay and the soil would sink to fill in those holes. That’s soil that’s supports the floor. Like I said, this is pretty. And pretty risky.” Said one of comments on Twitter.

Some people were however adamant that the tree had fully matured therefore there was no way its roots would grow big and destroy the house.

“Its eco and environmental friendly design why its so hard to get that. Its basic logic for healthier environment. You must watch most amazing houses on Netflix where they built a house on a forest without cutting any tree but incorporated the trees in the design.” argued another comment on Twitter.

An 18-year-old Ghanaian boy marvelled and blew road users away with a unique automobile he created himself.

In a video published on YouTube by M48 TV, the teenager in Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana revealed that it took him eight months to build the vehicle.

The innovative teen named the whip Never Give Up as he faced several challenges but triumphed over them to achieve his goal.

One highlight in the video is when he drives the whip to demonstrate that it functions without any problems.

The teen stunned many with his innovation, which has gained reactions from netizens under the YouTube video.

On 17th February 2022, The Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation has announced that they have awarded a successful bidder for a water project.

Each will cost over $250,000, equivalent to the cost of building over 12 urban medium houses.

The successful bidder will supply and install 1,084 prepaid water meters at the cost of $271,824,881.26.

This is according to the notice of award issued by the Permanent Secretary and placed in the newspapers. This translates to $250,000.00 (K4,250,000) per unit! Whatever they are smoking, we should ban it!

Algeria’s president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune has announced unemployment benefits for young adults as the country struggles with a jobless rate of almost 15 %.

He made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that the payments to jobseekers aged between 19 and 40 would begin in March 2022 and it is aimed at preserving “ the dignity of young people”.

Algeria relies on revenue from oil and gas to run its economy and is reported to have over 600,000 unemployed Algerian youths.

Those who are eligible will be able to collect the payments of about $100 (£73) a month(N41,500), as well as some medical benefits until they find work.

In addition, taxes on consumer products for beneficiaries will be suspended. Tebboune noted that Algeria was the first country outside Europe to introduce such a benefit.

Amid hike in price of cooking gas, Nigerian man invents stove that uses water to cook; seeks FG’s support.

Hadi Usman, a 67-year-old talented Nigerian man from the Jekadafari area of Gombe State, has invented a water-cooking stove in response to the country’s rising cooking gas prices.

Usman is said to have been responsible for a slew of unusual and noteworthy inventions in the past.

He is known for putting together a radio transmitter and running a community radio station.

The 67-year-old man wants the federal government to assist him in mass-producing his water-powered cooking stove in order to mitigate the negative effects that the rising price of cooking gas has on Nigerians.

“I wish relevant institutions and bodies can support towards patenting the project for mass production to at least help the without buying kerosene or gas to cook their food by using water,” Hadi said.

A final year student at the University of Jos has reportedly built a sports car as his school project.

A video shared by @gossipmilltv on Instagram showed the young man simply known as Blessing, test-driving the car.

In a photo collaged with the video, the young man wearing a suit stood proudly beside the car he created.

People gathered around him to watch in amazement. Someone in the crowd prompted him to power the vehicle and move.

Japan recently unveiled the world’s first Dual-Mode Vehicle (DMV), a contraption that runs both on roads, like a bus, and on rails, like a train.

The unique bus-train hybrid was unveiled last month, in the town of Kaiyo, Japan’s Tokushima Prefecture. The mini-bus-like contraption didn’t win anyone over with its looks, but it definitely made an impression in terms of practicality. It runs with normal rubber tires on the road, but when it needs to switch to train mode, a pair of metal wheels drop down from the vehicle’s underbelly. The front tires are lifted off of the track, while the rear wheels stay down to propel the vehicle. Switching between road and train modes takes only about 15 seconds.

A 700-pound cow won the hearts of people worldwide after escaping from a slaughterhouse and riding a waterslide.

The animal, which was to be killed in a slaughterhouse 500 miles from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was able to escape and make it to a nearby sunlit swimming pool.

Upon arrival, the cow immediately jumped on the water slide and started making its way to the pool below, as per the New York Post.

Although the slide was initially designed to hold a maximum of 450 pounds, it didn’t seem to budge by the cow’s weight.

Following that playful day, the cow was named Tobogã, meaning “slide” in Portuguese.

In addition, the animal will be spared a horrendous death as it was taken as a family pet by the pool’s owner, as per IHeartRadio.

Interestingly, this is not the first time something like this has happened.

Back in June, a group of cows escaped a slaughterhouse and made their way through California’s Pico Rivera, and a video showed them following traffic laws before making their way into someone’s backyard.

People were also filmed trying to herd one of the cows as it knocked one man to the ground.

Eventually, the herd was caught by wranglers after a second attempt to flee.

Most of them were captured by the end of the day and were herded onto trailers, even though some of them remained at large.

Also, back in 2018, a cow was turned into a celebrity in Poland after managing to escape from a slaughter ranch by charging at a metal fence and breaking a farmer’s arm.

The cow then swam to a deserted island on Lake Nysa and kept on evading being captured by swimming between islands, keeping 70 meters ahead of the searchers.

However, she was eventually captured and sadly passed away while being transported back to the farm in a lorry.

A TEENAGE girl from Walvis Bay launched an organisation at the town on Saturday, which aims to allow men to meet and discuss issues relating to their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

The organisation is called Auni Azizi, which means ‘helping God’s precious’ in Swahili.

Anna Ndara (16) says she felt a lot of focus is directed to women and girls, while men and boys are pushed aside, thereby losing their identity.

“I was doing self-evaluation and asked myself why I hate men. They have not done anything to me. I have not been sexually or emotionally abused by a man, yet I had a grudge against them. I realised I attended many events for women where one or two women would talk about how bad men are, and how they mistreated them. It really got to me.

“So, one day I was discussing with a friend how boys are neglected,” Ndara says.

She says she wants her organisation to be a safe space for men with regards to the issues they are faced with.

At the organisation’s launch, the men were addressed by various speakers who encouraged them to be respectable leaders in society, while at the same time being mindful of their emotional well-being.

“There are certain things we need to go back to in terms of our definition of a man. The issue of emotions is important. You find broken men doing things they are not supposed to do.

“There is a need to heal. Speak up! You don’t have all the answers. You cannot help yourself. Sometimes it is fine to say I have a problem, I need help. You will think you have it, until one day you are killing women,” motivational speakers, Pius Samuel said.

“You need to find yourself. We are not perfect, we also have emotions. Do not let society tell you you should not cry. Our grandfathers also cried, even if their wives did not know it.

“It becomes dangerous when emotions build up. You will start hurting people,” another motivational speaker, Hidipo Johannes, said.

Auni Azizi is currently active in the Kavango East and Erongo regions, and countrywide summits are planned for the future.

A former drug dealer is now an attorney after he was sworn in before the same judge who encouraged him to do more with his life.

When Ed Martell, from Inkster, Michigan, was 27, he stood in front of Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Bruce Morrow as a drug dealer about to be jailed for multiple years. Now, sixteen years later, Martell has completely transformed his life, as he was sworn in before the very same judge as an attorney.

Back in the early 2000s, Ed was a high school dropout trying to make ends meet by selling drugs. Following several run-ins with the law, he was expected to be put behind bars for up to 20 years. However, Morrow decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and gave him a different sentence. As UNILAD reveals, in addition to the three years probation, the judge challenged Martell to change his life.

Speaking to FOX 13, he recalled:

“I fell victim to my environment, I guess I could say, and then it became a trend. I started hanging around with the wrong crowd, I got intertwined with the drug culture.”

Inspired by Morrow, the then 27-year-old decided to take his life in an entirely different direction.

Martell explained:

“He challenged me, and he said, ‘Mr. Martell, I dare you to be a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, instead of out here selling drugs’.”

Dedicated to change his life, Ed went back to school at Wayne County Community College. What is more, he got a scholarship to law school at the University of Detroit-Mercy.

Despite his troubled past, Martell became passionate about pursuing a law career. However, due to his past crimes, he was not permitted to become a qualified lawyer. Luckily, the State Bar of Michigan allowed him to become an attorney.

And as fate has its ways to point us in the right direction, Ed was sworn in by the very same judge that motivated him to change his life for the better. Morrow commented:

“He’s like so many of the other people that come in front of us. They are talented, they’re brilliant, they have abilities and skills that, if you were not looking to make people’s lives better and connect with them, you were only going to see the person and the offense that they’re charged with. 

I tell them you were sent to me – this isn’t random, you’re not in a place by coincidence, you’re here for a purpose… it doesn’t matter what your past was, it doesn’t even matter what your present situation is, I would say just shoot for the stars.”

A proud father has taken to social media to celebrate his young son who he claimed built a personal computer all by himself.

The dad with Twitter handle @ImJustErnest took to the micro-blogging platform to reveal that he is proud of his son’s achievement.

According to Ernest, it took his little boy a few months to build the computer.

Sharing a photo of the young engineer and his computer, @ImJustErnest wrote:

“My son really built a PC on his own. Only took a few months. I’m a proud dad.”

Talk about a turning point: A lady, Destiny Paris James, who received a scholarship from Drake in 2018, has celebrated her graduation from the University of North Carolina.

The soon-to-be Master’s degree holder was thrust into limelight after her appearance in Drake’s “God’s Plan” video, where the rapper surprised her with scholarship fund.

In a few days time she would receive her certificate, and to celebrate, Destiny took to social media to share her story.

The 2018 video for Drake’s God’s Plan showed the artiste surprising Destiny and also further presenting her with a cheque of $50,000 to help her complete her education.

Destiny Paris James was doing her undergraduate programme at the time at the University of Miami, UM. She gained admission into UM in 2015 and graduated with a Bachelor of science in Public Health in 2019.

She then proceeded for her Master’s at the University of North Carolina’s Chapel Hill Gillings School where she will be bagging an MSc in Public Health in Health Behavior in 3 days.

Sharing the update on her social media pages, Destiny jumped on the ”How it started vs How its’s Going” trend and posted photos of herself.

Former students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno state, Joy Bishara and Lydia Pogu have graduated from Southeastern University in the United States after escaping from Boko Haram terrorists in 2014.

While Bishara graduated with a degree in social work, Pogu earned her degree in legal studies and graduated on April 30.

Recounting how they escaped from the terrorists after being kidnapped alongside 276 schoolgirls, the duo said they escaped by jumping off the truck while being driven away from their community by the terrorists.

Recounting their ordeal, Bishara told GMA3;

“I remember thinking about what my mum would do at that moment then I prayed. I just remembered a voice in my head saying ‘jump out’. I knew I was going to die either way. I chose to die and that was how I jumped out.”

On how she felt the day she graduated, Bishara said;

 “It was awesome, I felt great. I remember being told that I wasn’t going to be able to finish high school; that I was dumb. I never gave up or listened to all the negative talks. It was exciting to walk on that stage after being told ‘you can’t do it’.”

Pogu who also shared her story, said she had decided against going back to school after her escape until she was contacted by the US embassy.

Narrating how things turned around her, she added;

“I’m now trying to get my masters in human services and going back to law school when I’m done with my masters.”

They say finding yourself in the right spot, at the right time, is the key to success, and this Nigerian homeless man who got the opportunity of a lifetime while sleeping under a bridge is the perfect example.

You could say it was fate that Ali Olakunmi, a young Yoruba man from Nigeria’s Osun State, found himself sleeping under the same bridge that a creative director had chosen as the backdrop for a fashion shoot. As a homeless man in Ikeja, a suburb of Lagos, he didn’t really have any better options, but that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Afolabi (AL), the creative director we mentioned above, was waiting under the same bridge for a male model that was running late, and he happened to notice this young man who seemed to have all the features he was looking for in a model, so he approached him about putting on some clothes and posing for some pictures. And that’s how Ali the homeless became Ali the fashion model.

“I had a shoot today at Ikeja, while were waiting for the model to arrive, we decided to meet with a guy(ALI) who was sleeping under the bridge to model for us,” Afolabi twitted on April 2nd. “I would like to believe that Ali was born for this . His pose, his body structure and his skin tone was perfect.”

The tweet and the photos of Ali Olakunmi wearing stylish clothes and posing for photos quickly went viral, and before long, a TikTok video of Afolabi approaching the sleeping young man also surfaced and drew even more attention to this unlikely story.

After the photoshoot, the young man went back to sleeping under the bridge, but that’s not how this story ends. After Afolabi’s tweet went viral and everyone started inquiring about Ali, a multinational modelling company in Lagos contacted the creative director about the young talent.
