Treasurer General for the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Jappie Mhango is eyeing for the position of the party’s vice president.

Mhango made the announcement yesterday at parliament building during a meeting with DPP’s Members of Parliament.

Speaking after the meeting, one of the meeting attendees Ralph Jooma said they are impressed with Mhango’s presentation.

Mhango’s desire is coming at a time the party changed its constitution on the position of vice president.

The party has said it will no longer be having regional vice president as it is the case right now.

Mid next year DPP will go to convention to elect new leaders of the party.

At the moment former President Peter Mutharika is the one leading the party.

Not long ago, some quarters within the party, called for an early convention but they were brushed off.

Mangochi North East Overtone Imedi has resigned from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Imedi told MBC that he has reached the point to step down as a candidate as well as a regional member.

“I have decided to quit DPe I don’t see any political future that I can achieve while in DPP,” he said.

DPP Regional Governor for the East, Sheikh Imran Mtenje, said he is not aware that Imedi has stepped down as a member of DPP.

“The DPP practices open door policy where people can enter and leave the party at any time. As a party will find a replacement for him before 2025 tripartite elections,” said Mtenje.

During the 2019 tripartite elections, Imedi was third-best in Mangochi North East with over 5,000 votes.

DPP has been marred with political divisions as different camps have emerged calling for immediate party convention.

Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said it will move to vacate the injunction obtained by two National Governing Council (NEC) members against recent appointments made by teb party leader, former president Peter Mutharika.

The Two Ken Msonda and Joe Nyirongo said the appointments are Unprocedural, illegal, unconstitutional and undemocratic.

According to the two, they are saving the party from destruction saying it clear that it is not Mutharika who made the appointments but people surrounding him hence their move to stop the appointments.

The injunction is stopping all the appointments made from 2 October 2021 and that includes the position of Party spokesperson that Shadreck Namalomba holds, will stay until the party’s Secretary General calls for a National Governing Council meeting.

In a press statement signed by the party’s Administrative Secretary Francis Mphepo they will move to court to vacate the injunction and asked those that have been affected by the injunction to remain calm.

“The DPP informs all its members and all those that have been affected by the court injunction to remain calm, as the DPP is making an application to the High Court to Challenge and vacate the Injunction,” read part of the statement.

According to the statement, the appointments were made in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator for Nsanje Central, Francis Kasaila has reserved his comment on leadership wrangles rocking the main opposition.

According to a statement from the DPP, the party’s president Peter Mutharika has again settled for Kasaila as the leader of opposition in parliament following claims that Kondwani Nankhumwa has let go of the position.

Mutharika held a meeting with Nankhumwa over the weekend in order to settle the continuing differences that emerged right after the DPP’s downfall.

But in a statement, Nankhumwa has dismissed the letter which states of his resignation, saying the matter is still being discussed and a joint letter will be issued if the two sides reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, the High Court in Lilongwe has adjourned indefinitely a case in which Nankhumwa  and other three senior DPP officials dragged the party to court claiming they were unfairly suspended from the party.

Judge Kenyata Nyirenda said this is to pave way for discussions between the two parties following lawyers application to have the matter handled outside court.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is moving to dissolve the court order retaining Kondwani Nankhumwa as Leader of Opposition in Parliament so that Francis Kasaila who was appointed by the party at Peter Mutharika’s retirement home takes the title, DPP Chief Whip in Parliament Symon Vuwa Kaunda has confirmed.

Estranged Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey has responded to her recent dismissal by the party president Peter Mutharika, saying she joined the party at free will.

Jeffrey said the remarks yesterday at Bangwe Desert ground in the commercial city of Blantyre where the party’s vice president for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa held a rally.

According to Jeffrey, she joined the party in 2005 when the founding president late Bingu Wa Mutharika formed the party.

She further said that they are not in bad terms with the party’s president who is also the former head of state of Malawi, but she said the future of the party matters hence the call for Mutharika to step down as the party leader.

According to Jeffrey, Mutharika will never stand again in 2025 and a convention is the only solution to give ample time to the party to thoroughly campaign for another candidate.

Jeffrey added that she has not picked any side, adding that she is attending the rally as the Secretary General of the party.

However, she told the hundreds of people who gathered and witnessed the rally that her presence is a signal given to DPP followers once they go to convention to elect leaders of the party on various positions.

In a bid to strengthen the party (Democratic Progressive Party-DPP) at regional level, the regional governor Honorable Mzomera Ngwira, conducted an interface meeting with party leaders.

The meeting that was conducted at his residence ,was attended by regional, district and constituency members.

The regional governor highlighted the current political situation and called all party members to stand firm as the party is going through political metamorphosis.

President Peter Muntharika has asked some members of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) that are not agreeing to DPP-UDF alliance to leave the party.

The president spoke this yesterday, during the launch of $224 million Shire Valley Transformation Program in Chikwawa.

He said that he knows that there are other people in the party who are not willing to work with the United Democratic Front (UDF).

“If you do not want to unite with UDF, please leave DPP,” said Mutharika.

Meanwhile, DPP Vice President for the southern region, Kondwani Nankhumwa has urged all DPP and UDF members to stop gossiping and spreading lies as this may bring political tension in the party.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has said the party will win the forthcoming fresh polls scheduled for May 19, 2020.

Chakwera said this in a statement posted on his official facebook seen by Faceofmalawi reporter.

According to the statement, Chakwera said MCP is ready to rescue the country the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

“This is a time for us to rescue our Republic from those who have hijacked it to enrich themselves. A Republic is a form of government in which supreme power rests with the citizens, and it is to them that elected officials are answerable,” wrote Chakwera.

Chakwera further said that the DPP administration has officials who resist answering the people’s demands.

“They have fought our petitions in the Judiciary, but we have defended your rights there and won. They have fought our bills in the Legislature, but we have defended your rights there and won.

“They will fight our campaign to rescue the Executive, but we will defend your rights there and win. Whether they like it or not, #MalawiIsRising,” he added.

The constitutional court nullified the May 21, 2019 polls on February 3, 2020 and called for fresh polls within a period of 150 days.

The court also called for the national assembly to assess the capabilities of the current commissioner of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on handling the forthcoming Presidential polls.

On 12th February 2020,the United Transformation Movement(UTM) had it’s “thank you rally” at Nkando in Mulanje District.

Most of the supporters were from constituencies of Mulanje Pasani,Mulanje South West,Mulanje West and others from independent candidates.

Barely a week after 117 purported committee leaders in the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) defected to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in Chikwawa, over 200 DPP leaders from Chikwawa west and Nsanje South West Constituencies have also left the party and join MCP.

The leaders announced their defection on Tuesday, citing poor leadership among other reasons.

Former constituency governess for the governing party, Elizabeth Moses, claimed President Peter Mutharika has failed to address various challenges including shortage of essential drugs in public hospitals and food insecurity.

“We have defected to MCP because believe that the party’s leadership will make a difference in developing Nsanje.

“We have worked with the DPP led government and realized that President Mutharika has been making ’empty’ promises,” claimed Moses.

The former Nsanje DPP constituency governess further accused the governing DPP of using and dumping them.

“I worked with the party for so many years but was recently relieved of my duties without any token of appreciation.

“This is unfair, they should have done something as a way of appreciating my services,” lamented Moses.

MCP Campaign Director Moses Kunkuyu has described it as a welcome development.

Kunkuyu alleged the DPP led government protects people who commit crimes including corruption.

DPP Publicity Secretary Nicholas Dausi was not immediately available for a comment whilst its Secretary General, Grezeldar Jeffrey feigned ignorance on the development.

“I do not have that issue in my office, let me talk to our party’s Publicist, we will revert,” she said.

While waiting for the matter in court, President Arthur President Peter Mutharika is reportedly through special police unit invited Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers to Mtakataka for two weeks training in preparation for the constitutional court ruling on the much awaited Presidential election case.

According to sources at Mtakataka Police Training School in the central district of Dedza on Tuesday that 100 PMF officers started the training on Sunday, January 5, 2020.

“Its true that about 100 officers are going for special training on how will handle tension after the election case ruling.

“You remember, the police has been accused of failing to handle anti-Jane Ansah demos. So, the training is just to equipment them”, justifies the source.

Face of Malawi however understands that Mutharika’s decision to have special police force ahead of election case verdict has not gone well with Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Soldiers.

In an audio in our possession, one MDF soldier vowed to fight back if PMF decides to disrupt peace during the ruling.

“We are ready to defend the nation whatever the court decides on election case. If wont favour Mutharika, nothing this special force can do. Will destroy along side with their masters (Mutharika)”, warned the soldier.

There was no immediate comments from both State House and police on the matter.

Governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) parliamentarian for Blantyre City South Noel Lipipa has dismissed claims by Mosses Magaleta that he is not assisting people of the area in terms of development.

Magaleta who calls himself as a concerned citizen for Naotcha ward accused Lipipa and United Transformation Movement (UTM) councilor Thoko Phekani for doing nothing following the heavy rains and strong winds that damaged bridges in the area.

Lipipa said reconstruction of the bridges that were damaged is in progress and is expected to be completed within thirty days.

“Soon after the incident occurred l visited the area with officials from the City Assembly and National Roads Authority, we met chiefs and people of the area to see what we can do and immediately tender was released in the Newspapers and a contractor was identified within three days since it was an emergency,” he said.

He said each bridge at Somanje and Bethel  requires K75million kwacha whereas  Kabila bridge requires K90 million kwacha there is no way one can expect this to  be done overnight.

Lipipa has since asked Magaleta to stand as a MP for the area in the year 2024 if he sees that he is doing nothing for the people of the constituency to solve their problems.

Concurring with Lipipa Faith Chisale a resident of Chilombwe has also quashed Magaletas claim saying that Lipipa is doing commendable work for people of the area as compared to previous legislators.

She said people are happy and satisfied with a number of development projects that Lipipa has done so far and they want him to continue.

A visit to the area has also revealed that the reconstruction of the bridges is really in progress and some of the people that were interviewed also said that they are satisfied with how the work is going.

In a bid to bring sanity in the Malawi Vice President office Everton Chimulirenji has fired one of his security aid Austin Nsopela for indiscipline.

Nsopela who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) loyalist has also been involved into land syndicate in Blantyre.

According to the VP’s office inside sources reveals that there is enormous and well deserved concerns against fraudulent land sales and change of ownership, be it private or public properties.

Some quarters of the society have made up their mind to sale the whole country to Asians and Chinese people by using their political affiliations, influence and connections.

It has been found Nsopela is conniving with Killian Remmie Palika, who is Lands Commissioner which did not go well with VP office.

Sources hold that a family based in Blantyre had a land in Mapanga plot #78.

They have been using the land for more than 20 years. And in 2015, the oldest son applied for a lease and till to date.

Surprisingly, Nsopela was entangled in these illegal deals when he was already fired by the VP office on September 30, 2019.

Sources added that he was just using his veep’s name to instill fear and to threaten people.

This is what is happening; some ill advised cadets are using the name of President Peter Mutharika, to do their corrupt activities or their in agreement with Muthalika?

“Strangely, Nsopela went to their house in disguise as an official from the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development and met the mother (who is in her 60’s) he questioned her “who owns the land?”And she replied “it’s ours and we have been farming therefore quite some time”.

“The man went back, after few weeks he came back and informed the family to stop farming or any activities as the land has now been allocated to him. He later got an injunction from a certain court stopping the family’s activities on the plot. The son went to lands and inquire but to no avail. Through other connections, the son learnt the man is well connected and he is in cohort with the land commissioner,” exposed document, in our possession of Nsopela illegal deals.

President Peter Mutharika has admitted that he has been promising to construct the Mangochi-Makanjira Road for the past five years.

Mutharika made the confession while addressing a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rally in Balaka on Thursday.

“I know I have been talking about this road for last five years because our brothers in China promised [to fund the road] but the process was delayed,” Mutharika said.

He then promised that construction of the road will start soon saying his government has secured funding from OPEC Fund for International Development in Vienna.

Last year in December, Mutharika also promised that construction of the road will start “Very soon” saying his government had “already secured funds for the project.”

In the 2019 DPP manifesto, the Mangochi-Makanjira was also mentioned as one of the roads the party will construct in Mutharika’s second term.

During today’s rally, Mutharika said he wants his government to focus on developing rural areas and improving livelihoods of people in rural areas.

The president then outlined several projects which he said his government will implement in the Eastern Region.

He mentioned an airport, a five star hotel and a road to Cape Maclear in Mangochi.

He also promised to construct Tsangano-Neno, Road and other roads in Balaka Ntcheu and Machinga.

For Balaka, Mutharika pledged to construct a new hospital, schools and feeder roads and to rehabilitate Mpira Dam which is the main source of water in the district.

President Peter Mutharika has appealed to the top officials within the blue camp, to be united.

Mutharika has also given a hinted of leadership wrangles within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)

Speaking when he arrived in Blantyre from Lilongwe yesterday, Mutharika appealed for unity within the party.

Property worth over K16 million has been damaged in the arson of the house of Joyce Mvula, a Democratic Progressive Party1’s women league chairperson in Mzuzu.

The incident happened in the wee hours of Monday.

Son to Mvula, Peter Mumba who is also Chairperson for the Joint Civil Society on Good Governance described the incident as political.

Reports indicate that on Saturday, there was a meeting at Joyce Mvula’s house in Mchengautuwa in preparation for a rally, where senior officials like Jappie Mhango, Vuwa Kaunda, Ken Sanga were available.

Later, there was distribution of money to those who attended the meeting.

It is alleged that when other people around the area saw the DPP senior officials, they started calling them out that they are cadets and that they should share the money with them.

However, the situation seemed to have calmed down, just for some people to come back on Sunday midnight and torched a car, a house and stole some things from the house.

Police came to the rescue and disbursed the crowd by firing teargas. Police are yet to make any arrests on the perpetrators.

Mumba said his dad was injured in the fracas and has been treated as an outpatient.

Both Mvula and husband were moved to undisclosed location for their safety.
