</script></div><p>The pollster, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has removed 53 names of people who were registered to vote in the November 10, 2020 by-elections on suspicion that they are minors.</p>
<p>MEC spokesperson, Sangwani Mwafulirwa has confirmed the development saying this was arrived at following thorough scrutiny of the registered voters roll in conjunction with National Registration Bureau (NRB).</p><div id="faceo-276238824" class="faceo-content faceo-entity-placement"><!-- FomNew -->

<p>“These 53 people were registered with NRB but their details were not added to NRB’s database because they are suspected to be minors,” he said.</p>

<p>According to voters’ register,  a total of 2,756 newly registered voters will cast their vote in Karonga Central and Lilongwe North West constituencies and in Makhuwira ward in Chikwawa.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, MEC has closed the campaign period for the by-elections with a call to observe all the electoral rules and regulations among contenders and followers.</p>

<p>MEC said voters&#8217; register will be reset to the state it was on 21st May, 2019.</p>
<p>He said the deferment in Mangochi West, Mangochi North East and Phalombe North had been effected to &#8220;allow time for implementation of the processes.&#8221;</p>
<p>New dates for receipt of nominations for the three by-elections will be set and announced in due course, Kachale added.</p>

<p>Cox has made the remarks at the National Elections Consultative Forum (Necof) currently underway in Lilongwe.</p>
<p>According to Chifundo Kachale, Chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), the meeting is aimed at reviewing meeting of the Fresh Presidential Election held on June 23 this year.</p>
<p>The review meeting has involved every stakeholder in the polls.</p>

<p>Third petitioner &#8211; Kafandikhale Mandevana against Francis Kansaira of Nsanje Central Constituency.</p>
<p>The High Court of Blantyre was expecting to proceed by giving the judgement to finalise the Elections case number 32 of 2019.</p>
<p>During the hearing of the case, Mr Munkhondia (Director of Electoral service for Malawi Electoral Commission) was amongst those who were called by the court and stood in front of senior councilor Justin Dzonzi and Webster Kossamu who represented Enock Chizuzu and Foster Thipiwa.</p>
<p>Avant Publications has learnt that all lawyers involved in the case have not yet completed and submitted their final submissions which were expected to be in court today.</p>
<p>According to the petitioners lawyer Webster Kossamu, their final submissions will be submitted 10 days from now, after they requested for additional days from the court.</p>
<p>Judge Sylivester Kalembera is the one who presided over the case.</p>

<p>“All those who registered for the May 21, 2019 Tripartite Elections need not to register again but just go to the centre where they registered to verify their names in the voters’ roll,” he said.</p>
<p>However, transfers from one constituency to another will not be allowed during the by-elections.</p>

<p>The DPP lost miserably to the Tonse Alliance after amassing 58.5 percent of the votes against its 39 percent of the total votes cast.</p>
