Malawian songstress Issabel M King is set to release her highly anticipated album, “The Blue Journal”, on 1st November 2025. The artist revealed the news on her official Facebook page, sharing the inspiration behind the album’s title.

“Let’s start the day with a big shoutout to Miss Refilwe Stewarts Ntopa from Standard Bank Group for gifting me this cute blue journal without knowing it’s gonna play a role in the bigger picture that has turned into my album name,” she wrote.

The project features 12 solid tracks blending gospel themes with positive messages. While Issabel has not disclosed any collaborations, her fans can expect the same creativity she has showcased in past projects, including features with Mic Mash, Nthondwa, Bouncy and Refilwe Ntopa.

Malawi’s beloved gospel singer Theresa Phondo has announced the release of her much-anticipated project titled Faith Hope Love, which drops this Friday, 12th September 2025.

The singer made the announcement on her Facebook page, unveiling the cover art and a nine-tracklist. The project includes seven collaborations and two solo tracks, showcasing Theresa’s versatility and collaborative spirit.

Among the featured artists are Zambia’s Esther Chungu, Malawi’s Namadingo, Miracle Chinga, Kelvin Sings, Beracah, and her former Zathu Band colleagues Paul Kachala, Esther Chitheka, and Praise Umali.

Malawian singer Tuno, loved for her fearless personality, has finally spoken out against ongoing criticism about her body size.

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the artist took to her Facebook page to respond directly to those mocking her weight, urging them to focus on the country’s real challenges instead of her body.

“Do you really think your votes will increase because you are fighting my fats? Do you think the devaluation of the kwacha will be solved by attacking my fat belly? The price of maize and fertilizer is stressing you, but you still choose to waste your energy on me?” Tuno wrote.

Her remarks come after a performance at the Groove FM show in Lilongwe last weekend, where her outfit sparked discussions and drew negative comments about her new appearance.

The singer, however, made it clear that she will not let online insults bring her down.

“There is no forex in the country, but instead of fixing that, you decide to fight Tuno’s peace. Fix the problems  waste your energy on that. Insulting me will not suddenly create jobs.”

Organizers of the UMP Festival have announced that Dorothy Kingston will be honored with the 2025 Fashion Icon Award for her bold fashion choices and influence, which have often sparked conversations on social media.

According to a statement released by the organizers, the award is aimed at appreciating and encouraging Kingston for her role in pushing boundaries and leading fashion trends in Malawi.

The award will be officially presented during this year’s UMP Festival, scheduled to take place from 21 to 27 October at Cape Maclear in Mangochi.

Malawian hip hop legend Phyzix has signed yet another brand ambassadorship deal, this time with Soft Touch Products.

The muti-award winning rapper made the announcement on his official Facebook page, where he shared a photo of himself shaking hands with Soft Touch CEO, Aadil Parker.

Multi-Award-winning South African hip-hop star Nasty C is returning to Malawi on 30 November 2025 to thrill fans at the grand finale of Gwamba’s Wanted Tour.

Malawi’s music king Tay Grin is gearing up for a huge celebration marking 20 years in the music industry, set for 6th September 2025 at Lilongwe’s Silver Stadium. The big news? African music heavyweights WizKid and Awilo Longomba will headline, promising a night to remember.

Tay Grin announced on his official Facebook page: “Mfumu yakuitanilani oimba ama jet anzake Wizkid ndi Awilo kuti azakusangalatseni anthu ake pa 6 September pano. Tonse tiyeni ku Silver Stadium as we celebrate the 20 years of Nyau Music  The Echoes of Greatness.”

But just as excitement builds, controversy has reignited over Awilo Longomba’s past actions in Malawi  specifically his no-show at a major concert in May 2023 organized by fellow artist Lawi.

On that occasion, Awilo Longomba was booked as the main act for a Lawi-organized show in Malawi. However, when the day arrived, Awilo failed to show up. Worse still, reports allege that he did not refund the payment Lawi had made for his performance, leaving the organizer scrambling to save the event.

Lawi’s struggles were only eased when local star Dr. Namadingo stepped in at the last minute to perform, salvaging the concert.

The drama left many fans and insiders frustrated, questioning Awilo’s professionalism and respect for his Malawian supporters.

Recently, Lawi fueled the fire with a cryptic Facebook post: “When the country loves you, those who owe they  just come to your doorstep to pay  you back.

Many took this as a direct jab at Awilo, reminding the public of the no-show scandal and the financial losses Lawi endured in May 2023.

Fans on social media have since been debating whether Awilo will finally redeem himself by showing up for Tay Grin’s celebration, or if history will repeat itself.

There’s fresh drama sizzling in the Malawi music industry and this time, it’s a heavyweight lyrical face-off between controversial rapper IKK and Tay Grin, the self-proclaimed “Mfumu Paliponse”.

It all started when Tay Grin took to Facebook with a photo of himself stepping off an aircraft, boldly captioned:
“Cosoma this, Cosoma that… Meanwhile, the King got tired of first class and bought a jet.”

That flex didn’t sit well with IKK, who quickly fired back in full-blown Hip Hop diss mode. He slammed Grin’s claims, posting:

You were born in America but you don’t even own an American car like a GMC? You don’t even have an expensive car, but you call yourself a king?

He didn’t stop there. IKK went in deeper:

“Amakupembeza ndi ma kape osakuziwa in & out koma Hip Hop fans sitipusitsidwa! Mfumu yopanda mudzi munaiwona kuti?”

(You’re only hyped by clueless fans, but true Hip Hop heads aren’t buying it! Where have you ever seen a king with no village?)

Taking a final jab at the private jet claim, he mocked:

“That so-called private jet looks like a crop duster used to spray tea leaves!”

Tay Grin, unfazed, responded with a cool “Money Talks ” on his own page, suggesting he’s letting his cash do the talking.

But IKK wasn’t done yet. He clapped back with a serious question:

“So is it the donation money you were given after your house burned down that you used to buy a jet?”

For context, earlier this year in March, Tay Grin’s house was gutted by fire, leading to artists and fans organizing a benefit concert in April to help him recover. Now, some fans are wondering if the jet stunt is a bit tone-deaf.

A glamorous State House dinner hosted by President Lazarus Chakwera yesternight for top artists benefiting from COSOMA’s K1.5 billion blank media levy, has sparked backlash after notable stars Namadingo and Onesimus were conspicuously missing from the guest list despite being known beneficiaries of the royalties.

The event, held at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe and dubbed “Chakwera’s Arts Stars”, celebrated creatives who are said to be raising the Malawi flag globally. It also served as a cheque handover and award night for top-earning musicians, actors, and writers.

While artists like Eli Njuchi and Driemo topped the payout list with K23 million each, and others like Zeze Kingston, Saint, Gibo Pearson, and Wikise followed closely behind, fans quickly noticed the absence of two of Malawi’s biggest names in recent years.

Netizens questioned why Namadingo, who has consistently ranked among the top earners in COSOMA distributions, and Onesimus, an internationally recognized artist, were left out of the public celebration.

Namadingo later responded on Facebook:

“I have received my cheque from COSOMA. I just asked them to present it to me privately as they always do. But I am thankful for being in the Top Ten always. Thank you Namafans.”

The post did little to silence debate, with some supporters arguing that the exclusion seemed intentional or political, while others pointed fingers at favoritism in the selection of attendees.

As for Onesimus, he has remained silent, fueling further speculation and online theories about what could be going on behind the scenes.

Critics have since accused COSOMA and government officials of “cherry-picking” artists to showcase at the State House event, despite branding it a national celebration of creativity.

Meanwhile, COSOMA confirmed it has disbursed K1.5 billion in royalties for content reproduced between April 2024 and March 2025, under the blank media levy a system that remains controversial and murky in transparency, especially when it comes to how artists are prioritized.

The event featured figures from music, poetry, drama, and literature but for many Malawians, it’s who wasn’t there that has become the biggest headline.
