The internet is buzzing after a lady identified only as A Chaco went viral for demonstrating what she called the best positions for women during waxing sessions but many online think she was showing something else entirely.

In her video, the lady confidently demonstrated positions like butterfly, open wide, and side leg raise  which, according to her, help women get a clean and comfortable waxing experience.

However, male netizens quickly hijacked the post, claiming the positions looked “too familiar” to bedroom scenes rather than salon routines.

Social media platforms have since flooded with memes, reactions, and cheeky comments.

While the lady insists her intention was purely educational for beauty and self-care purposes, the internet clearly had other ideas  reminding everyone that, indeed, no one understands women better than their estheticians.

Health authorities in Rumphi District have placed the region on high alert following a suspected case of Mpox being treated at Rumphi District Hospital.

Senior Health Promotion Officer for Mzimba Health Division, Lovemore Kawayi, confirmed the report but emphasized that the case has not yet been confirmed.

“We have indeed been alerted by our colleagues at Rumphi District Health Office (DHO) about a suspected case of Mpox at Rumphi District Hospital. However, let me stress that this is not a confirmed case,” Kawayi said.

Health officials revealed that the patient is originally from Mzimba North, prompting the health division to launch further investigations at the community level and introduce necessary interventions.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm but vigilant as they monitor the situation.

Karonga District Hospital has reported a new cholera-related death, bringing the total number of fatalities in the district to seven since the outbreak was first detected in September last year.

According to Raymond Jereni, the Disease Surveillance and Response Coordinator at the hospital, the latest death was recorded at the Karonga District Hospital Cholera Treatment Unit (CTU).

“Last week, we also recorded four cases, all from Malema 2 village, and currently, two patients are admitted at Karonga CTU. As of February 16, we have 63 cumulative confirmed cases of cholera in the district,” Jereni stated.

Health authorities continue to urge residents to observe proper hygiene practices, including drinking safe water and maintaining sanitation measures, to curb the spread of the disease.

Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has assured Malawians that the country has enough antiretroviral (ARV) drug supplies to last for the next 11 months, despite the recent withdrawal of HIV and AIDS funding by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Speaking on the sidelines of the 74th Health Ministers Conference of the East, Central, and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) in Lilongwe, Chiponda emphasized that the government is taking proactive measures to ensure continued access to essential HIV treatment.

She noted that Malawi is now relying on the Health Sector Joint Fund—supported by Germany, Norway, the United Kingdom, and other development partners—to bridge the financial gap left by USAID’s withdrawal. Additionally, the government has recruited more healthcare workers to replace those previously funded by the US agency.

Chiponda reassured the public that Malawi remains committed to sustaining its HIV response efforts and ensuring uninterrupted access to life-saving medication for those in need.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) in Zambia has confirmed that Lusaka has recently recorded eight cases of Mpox, commonly referred to as Monkeypox as the country records 15 cases of the disease.

The disease which happens to be a viral infection commonly referred to as monkeypox, has prompted health authorities to intensify surveillance and contact tracing efforts to curb its spread.

Mpox spreads through close contact with infected individuals, animals or contaminated materials such as beddings or clothing.

Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes and a distinctive rash that progresses from red spots to fluid filled blisters.

The disease can also be transmitted through respiratory droplets or skin to skin contact with fluid filled blisters or rash.

MoH senior health promotions officer, Joshua Siame, outlined the geographical distribution of the cases.

“The confirmed cases are concentrated in Kanyama, Bauleni, Garden and other areas. Currently the nation has cumulatively recorded 15 cases of impox that have been distributed,” he said.

“Outside Lusaka, we have one case in Chitambo District in Central Province, one in Luampa in Western Province and five on the Copperbelt.”

Chitambo District recorded the country’s first Mpox case, involving a patient who has since recovered and left the country.

The Ministry of Health revealed that it has since isolated all active cases to prevent further transmission.

Siame emphasised the importance of early detection and public vigilance, urging citizens to report any unusual symptoms, especially rash to the nearest health facility as early intervention is key in managing the outbreak.

The ministry also advised the public to practice proper hygiene, such as frequent hand washing and to avoid close contact with suspected or confirmed cases.

Malawi Liverpool Wellcome’s Bacterial and Drug-Resistant Infections Research Group, in collaboration with the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH)’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, organized a “Big Walk” this week to raise awareness on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

The walk commenced at the Blantyre Magistrate Court and proceeded to QECH via the Masauko Chipembere Highway. Along the route, participants engaged with the public, sharing vital information on AMR, its prevention, and the risks associated with drug-resistant infections. They also addressed the dangers of self-medication and the misuse of antibiotics in farming.

This event is part of a larger series of activities by MLW and QECH aimed at increasing awareness and aligning with global efforts to combat AMR.

A six-month-old child has died, and seven people have been hospitalized following a cholera outbreak in Balaka District. The Director of Health Services for the district, Chimwemwe Thambo, confirmed the outbreak, stating that the affected individuals are from Nsamati Village under Senior Chief Amidu.

According to Thambo, the cases were initially reported this month at Namanolo Health Center, with patients later transferred to Machinga District Hospital for further treatment. “The patients are currently showing signs of improvement,” Thambo reported.

Health officials in Balaka, in collaboration with Machinga District authorities, have launched efforts to contain the spread of the disease.

Thambo urged the public to maintain strict hygiene practices to help prevent further infections.

A case of mpox has been confirmed in Nakasongola Prison, central Uganda, as reported by the Uganda Prison Service on Tuesday. The infected inmate, currently facing murder charges, has been isolated and is receiving medical treatment.

This development follows the World Health Organization’s declaration of mpox as a public health emergency in August, after a new variant emerged. The outbreak, which began in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has spread to neighboring countries, including Uganda.

Prison spokesperson Frank Baine revealed that the prisoner is believed to have contracted the disease before arriving at the facility, though investigations are still ongoing.

The number of cholera cases in Chitipa District has risen to 35, following the outbreak that was officially announced last week.

Chitipa District Health Office (DHO) spokesperson, Masida Nyirongo, confirmed the increase in cases, along with one reported death.

Nyirongo stated that the DHO has recorded eight new cases and five cross-border cases, raising concerns about the spread of the disease. Last week, the number of infections had surged to 22, up from 10 cases earlier that week.

Some of the new cases have emerged from Ifumbo Health Centre, adding to the total of four health facilities now dealing with cholera patients. In response, the DHO has set up treatment units at the affected centers, with staff on-site for patient care and proper disease management.

To curb the spread of cholera, the district council, in collaboration with community leaders, is advising the public to avoid eating at large gatherings such as funerals and church events. Additionally, people are being reminded to maintain proper hygiene by washing hands before meals and avoiding cold food.

Health officials remain on high alert as the situation continues to unfold.

Health Activist Maziko Matemba has urged government through the Ministry of Health to raise awareness among the people of Mangochi and the public about the importance of vaccinating their children to prevent the spread of measles.

His remarks come after the Ministry of health announced that 3 people in the district have been diagnosed with measles.

In an interview with local media, Matemba emphasized that measles is preventable and can be eradicated through vaccination.

A video showing doctors removing worms from the intestine of a reportedly sick person has gone viral.

In the footage, the intestine tissue is filled with Ascaris lumbricoides, a large parasitic worm that causes ascariasis in humans.

Ascaris lumbricoides is the most common parasitic worm in humans, with an estimated 807 million to 1.2 billion people infected worldwide.

The roundworm primarily infects humans via the fecal-oral route.

The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has banned the use of use neutralizing shampoo and Anti Breakage hair chemical which is manufactured by Loreal Company in South Africa.

In press statement that Face of Malawi has seen signed by Executive Director for CFTC ,Lloyds Vincent Nkhoma, the ban comes after  receiving an information that there is bacteria in those products.

According to the manufacturer, using  single 50ml shampoo may lead to scalp infections in those with compromised immune systems. According to available information, the product, was produced in April 2023, in South Africa and is also exported to its neighbouring countries.

According to Nkhoma, CFTC has not yet conducted a survey to establish whether the recalled product is available on the Malawi market.

The Commission is however, urging consumers, distributors and the general public to stop the sale and use of the product.

“Those with stocks or in possession of the said products should return them to their suppliers and get a full refund”, reads the statement.

CFTC is also encouraging consumers who may have purchased the subject product, and have proof of purchase, to the board.
