Angry villagers in Chinkhande Village, Senior Chief Chawanda, Ntchisi District, have set fire to four houses belonging to the family of Fanizo Chalekana, who is suspected of involvement in the death of Thokozani Moses.

Ntchisi Police spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Salomy Zgambo, confirmed the development, saying the incident followed a disagreement between the two men on the night of August 29, 2025.

According to Zgambo, the quarrel started after Moses confronted Chalekana over poor workmanship in a brick-molding job for which he had already been paid in full. During the confrontation, Moses reportedly took some bundles of grass belonging to Chalekana, an act that infuriated him.

“In the heat of the argument, Chalekana allegedly struck Moses on the head with a hoe. The victim was rushed to Ntchisi District Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment,” said Zgambo.

Zgambo added that following Moses’s burial on August 31, 2025, angry villagers and relatives of the deceased retaliated by torching four houses belonging to Chalekana’s family.

Police have since launched a manhunt for Chalekana, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

An unidentified man has been burned to death by an angry mob in Chikhambi Village, under Senior Chief Kasisi in Chikwawa, on suspicion of being a thief.

The incident occurred earlier today today dawn near Minimo Lodge, along the Chapananga Road.

When authorities arrived at the scene, police officers were already in the process of transporting the deceased’s remains.

A man has been beaten to death in Mkawera Village, under Senior Chief Chidothe in Thyolo, after being suspected of stealing a goat last night.

According to Group Village Head Mkawera, the incident occurred around 11 PM when the deceased, identified only as Mame, and another individual allegedly broke into a woman’s kraal and stole a goat.

Upon hearing the commotion, villagers mobilized and apprehended Mame before beating him to death. Meanwhile, his accomplice reportedly fled the scene, leaving behind the stolen goat, which was later found in Thuthu Village with another person who abandoned it after being confronted.

Authorities are yet to comment on the matter, but investigations are expected to follow.

An unidentified man has been killed by an angry mob after being set on fire on suspicion of cattle theft in Kapasule Village, under Senior Chief Katunga in Chikwawa District.

According to eyewitnesses (name withheld), the man was found in possession of four cattle believed to have been stolen from a farmer in Mpatsa Village. Reports indicate that he was in the company of three others who managed to escape, leaving him behind.

Chikwawa Police spokesperson Dickson Matemba confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway to establish the full details of the case.

Authorities have since urged the public to refrain from mob justice and report suspected criminals to law enforcement agencies.

Mary Laini Kaude, an 87-year-old woman from Matewere Village in Traditional Authority Juma’s area in Mulanje District, is recovering from severe injuries after being attacked by an angry mob on Thursday night. The mob accused her of practicing witchcraft and causing rain delays in the area.

Catherine Namanya, Kaude’s granddaughter, reported that the assailants broke into Kaude’s home through a window before attacking her. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene and rescued her. A violent mob from Nsonda village in Mzuzu, has today this morning wreaked havoc on a family’s property following allegations that a young man from the household and two accomplices murdered a motorcycle Kabaza operator identified as Abel Chiumia and buried him in a nearby garden after stealing his motorcycle.

In a video shared on Facebook, shows enraged community members, upon learning of the alleged crime, descended on the family’s home, destroying everything in sight.

The mob reportedly demolished the house, cut down banana trees, and even dismantled the household’s latrine.
The incident has left the affected family devastated, with their property in ruins and no immediate intervention from law enforcement reported.

Police at Bunda in Lilongwe have issued a statement seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body of an unknown male found at the Mitundu Rural Community Hospital mortuary.

According to Lilongwe police publicist Hastings Chigalu, the man, is believed to be between 50 and 60 years old, was reportedly assaulted and killed by an angry mob after allegedly attempting to steal a bag of maize.

“The incident took place in Chimutu Village under Traditional Authority Chiseka around 2:00 a.m. on November 2, 2024”. said Chigalu

The deceased is described as a tall, dark-complexioned African man. Rumors circulating in the community suggest that he may have previously worked as a second-hand clothing (Kaunjika) trader in Area 36, Lilongwe.

Bunda Police has since urge anyone who might recognize the description or is missing a relative fitting these characteristics to contact the Bunda Police Unit to assist with identification.

An angry mob in Nkhotakota has yester night set ablaze a 39 year man on suspicion of allegedly stealing sheep in Chalunda village.

Spokesperson for Nkhotakota police station, Paul Mwalimwe, has confirmed the sad development and identified the deceased as Malithano Chthumbwi who hailed from Chikwawe village Traditional Authority Nkhanga in the district.

No individual has been apprehended among the mob as Police is investigating the matter.

It is reported that the mob used dry maize stalks to burn the suspect due to the ongoing fuel shortage that prevented them from using petrol.

Chithumbwi was reportedly known for frequent thefts in the area and had been arrested multiple times in the past. This incident reflects rising frustrations in the community over crime and resource scarcity.

An angry mob from Mtalimanja village in, Mangochi district havekilled 49-year-old on suspicion of stealing various items in the village

Public Relations Officer for Mangochi police spokesperson, Amina Tepani Daudi, has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as George Chawezi.

Two suspected thieves who were rescued by police from a mob attempting to kill them in Nsanje and were receiving treatment at a government hospital have died.

This brings the death toll to four, the deceased were suspected of attempting to rob a local trader in Sorgin, Nsanje District.

Spokesperson for Nsanje Agnes Zalakoma, has confirmed the development today sating the rescued mob attack victims has died this morning.

According to Zalakoma, Harold Mwaiwao, aged 27, from Mtika village under Chief Njema in Mulanje, and Zigy Nasangwe from Likangala village under Chief Nkhulambe in Phalombe, died while receiving treatment at Nsanje hospital.

Currently, police are searching for others who reportedly fled the scene with dangerous weapons and were using a Land Cruiser vehicle.

Early on Monday, a mob set two people on fire and seriously injured two others whom they suspected to be dangerous criminals attempting to rob a local trader in the area.

A young man, identified as Master Million, has been killed by angry villagers of Nyalugwe  under the Traditional Authority Chiwalo in Phalombe District, after being accused of stealing livestock.

The villagers suspected him of being responsible for a series of thefts in the area, particularly stealing livestock such as goats and cattle.
According to local reports, Master Million had been terrorizing the area for some time, stealing animals during the night.

On the night of September 25, 2025, Master Million and his friends reportedly attempted to steal cattle from one of the homes in the village. They were successful in their theft but made a fatal mistake as they fled.

As they passed by a house, the dogs in the yard began barking loudly, alerting

the homeowner. The homeowner quickly raised the alarm, causing villagers to rush outside.
As Master and his accomplice tried to flee, the dogs attacked Master, bringing him down while his accomplice managed to escape.

The angry villagers, already frustrated by the thefts, seized Master Million. Without waiting for law enforcement, they took matters into their own hands and began beating him. The situation escalated, and the mob eventually set him on fire, killing him on the spot.

Master Million was a known ex-convict who had recently been released from prison. He hailed from the same district of Phalombe.

In a tragic incident in Chisamba, Zambia, a suspected cattle rustler was lynched by a mob after allegedly murdering a local farmer who had been pursuing him to recover stolen livestock.

The suspect, identified as Starner Kabeba from Lusaka’s John Laing area, is said to have fatally stabbed Emmanuel Nene, a 32-year-old resident of Katelele village in Chief Chamuka’s area.

The Central Province Deputy Police Commanding Officer, Lemekani Chirwa, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred around 02:00 hours on Saturday in Nene’s village. According to Mr. Chirwa, the tragic events unfolded when Mr. Nene encountered three men, including Kabeba, who were moving two cows in the opposite direction as he returned home late on Friday at around 23:00 hours.

Suspecting them to be cattle rustlers, Mr. Nene promptly alerted Manix Chisumpa, a member of the village’s community crime prevention unit (CCPU). Mr. Chisumpa joined Nene in pursuing the suspects.

“As they continued their pursuit, Kabeba reportedly slowed down to defend his accomplices. When Nene came face to face with Kabeba, the latter allegedly unleashed a knife and attacked Nene, inflicting deep cuts on his right shoulder and stomach,” Mr. Chirwa explained.

By this time, members of the public had joined the chase, and upon apprehending Kabeba, they swiftly mobilized and subjected him to mob justice, beating him to death.

Police are investigating the incident and further details are expected as the case unfolds. The community has been urged to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report crimes to the authorities for proper legal action.

An angry mob from Marka in Ndamera area Nsanje district have beaten up an unknown man on the suspicion that he threw two children into a deep pit on Monday 12 August 2024.

Nsanje police spokeswoman Agness Zalakoma said the man was seriously injured following the attack and was sent to the Queen Elizabeth General Hospital in Blantyre.

According to Zalakoma, the man is believed to have thrown the children into the pit near the edge of the Nyachilenda Bridge.

She said that the guards from the China Railway 20 repair company saw the children who are a 7-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy in a pit and they latter informing people who managed to get them out of the pit.

Meanwhile, the children who suffered serious head injuries have been admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where they are receiving medical help.

Police in Nkhotakota have launched manhunt to apprehend unknown people who assaulted to death a 21 year-old man for allegedly suspected of stealing beans from a garden in Chapota village in the district.

Deputy spokesperson for Nkhotakota police, Sergeant Chisomo Chuma, has confirmed the development and said this happened on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon in the village.

According to Chuma, the late Ibrahim went to a garden in the village with the intention of stealing beans, when he was there, the owner of the garden saw him and shouted for people to help him catch the thief and many people flocked to the place.

The people were said to have managed to catch the suspect and began to beat him severely before setting him on fire.

When Police were informed about the matter, they followed the matter and they went together with medical personnel at Benga hospital to examine the body.

Postmortem results the results showed that Ibrahim died due to fire injuries.

Meanwhile, the police in the district have criticized the actions of these people and have asked people to report to the police if they suspect that someone has done something wrong.

An Angry mob in Dedza have torched the house of an old man on suspicion of killing his relative and being in found in possession of palm of a dead child and skin of a python snake in his house.

The incident took place yester night at the Village of Chipira Traditional Authority Kaphuka in the district.

The old man, has been identified as Madyero Ndekha who is being accused of practicing witch craft in the area.

The police rushed to the village and rescued the suspected elder and his son from mob.
