Malawian rapper and fashion icon Gomezgani Kambwiri, popularly known as Toastt, has expressed frustration over fans tagging him in posts related to the MASO Awards’ “Best Fashionable Celebrity” category, despite his decision not to participate.

The Gold Chain hitmaker addressed the issue through a post on his official Facebook page, where he clarified his stance:

“People keep tagging me about the MASO Awards ‘Best Fashionable Celebrity’ category. They gave me a call to inform me that I was nominated, but I humbly declined to participate.

Everyone nominated deserves the spotlight, and I find it weird when someone tags me on another individual’s post when I am not even up for nominations. Reads the post

Toastt continued saying that people must stick to the nominees and respect those who willingly choose not to participate like the way he did.

Malawian multi-award-winning musician Temwa Gondwe, popularly known as Temwah, has urged female college students to focus on their studies rather than chasing a luxurious lifestyle of being a Baddie.

Temwah shared her advice on her official Facebook page, posting, “To my wow baby university baddies, there’s a lot more after Uni/College. Take care of yourselves. Life after UNI is different.”

The post has triggered much engagement in comment box as netizens have flooded there with their opinions on what the artist has said.

Adding her support to Temwah’s advice, Nthanda Manduwi, a successful Malawian young lady living in the United States, responded with an “OK” emoji and a love emoji, signaling her agreement with the message.

The Facebook Oversight Board has received an appeal to restore former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, a spokesperson for the board has confirmed.

“We can confirm that a user statement has been received in the case before the Oversight Board concerning President Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Facebook handed the case to its independent board in January. The board’s process reportedly gave administrators of Trump’s Facebook page the option to submit a statement challenging Facebook’s decision which has now been done.

The spokeswoman said the board would have no further comment until it had issued a decision.

The board is responsible for overseeing an appeals process that allows users to challenge decisions made by Facebook and Instagram. The decisions made by the board are final and cannot be overturned by any executives, including Zuckerberg.

Last month, Facebook and Instagram indefinitely banned Donald Trump following the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg said at the time.

“I’ve been trying to close my Instagram and Twitter accounts for four days but I’m not getting any feedback when I report the problem,” Victor told YOU earlier.

He first encountered a problem last Thursday when he suddenly couldn’t get into his Facebook, Twitter or Instagram profiles. Even his personal email address had been hacked and all his emails deleted.

He kept getting WhatsApps from people wanting to know what was going on, he says.

“I eventually managed to remove my Facebook profile but I struggled badly with Twitter and Instagram.”

He reckons the hacks were the result of his increasing popularity on social media leading up to the Rugby World Cup. “Before the World Cup I got between 2 000 and 3 000 likes per pic. Then it suddenly went up to between 11 000 and 12 000 likes. I think the hackers noticed the spike and decided to target me.”

The dad of three says the hack didn’t affect his sponsorships but he was worried that he’d lost many precious pics of his family.

Facebook apologised on Friday after black employees anonymously shared feelings of workplace bias in an online post.

The post shared at Medium by a “FB Blind” profile laid out perceived slights by managers, white colleagues, and the human resources department.

“No one at Facebook, or anywhere, should have to put up with this behaviour,” corporate communications vice president Bertie Thomson said in response to an AFP query.

“We are sorry. It goes against everything that we stand for as a company. We’re listening and working hard to do better.”

Incidents described in the Medium post included being targeted for negative performance reviews or snide comments.

“On the inside, we are sad. Angry. Oppressed. Depressed,” the post read.

“And treated every day through the micro and macro aggressions as if we do not belong here.”

The anonymous post maintained that the atmosphere at Facebook has worsened in the past year when it came to non-white workers being recognised, empowered and treated equitably.

“The problem is not just with black employees of different genders,” the post read.

“We are remaining anonymous because Facebook creates a hostile culture where anyone that is non-white is made to feel fear for their job and their safety to report any bad behaviours.”

Facebook Inc said on Tuesday it was tightening rules around its live-streaming feature ahead of a meeting of world leaders aimed at curbing online violence in the aftermath of a massacre in New Zealand.

A lone gunman killed 51 people at two mosques in the city of Christchurch on March 15 while livestreaming the attacks on Facebook. It was New Zealand’s worst peacetime shooting and spurred calls for tech companies to do more to combat extremism on their services.

Facebook said in a statement it was introducing a “one-strike” policy for use of Facebook Live, temporarily restricting access for people who have faced disciplinary action for breaking the company’s most serious rules anywhere on its site.

First-time offenders will be suspended from using Live for set periods of time, the company said. It is also broadening the range of offences that will qualify for one-strike suspensions.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the change addressed a key component of an initiative, known as the “Christchurch Call”, she is spearheading to halt the spread of violence online.

“Facebook’s decision to put limits on live streaming is a good first step to restrict the application being used as a tool for terrorists, and shows the Christchurch Call is being acted on,” she said in an email from her spokesman.

Facebook did not specify which offences were eligible for the one-strike policy or how long suspensions would last, but a spokeswoman said it would not have been possible for the shooter to use Live on his account under the new rules.

The company said it plans to extend the restrictions to other areas over coming weeks, beginning with preventing the same people from creating ads on Facebook.

It also said it would fund research at three universities on techniques to detect manipulated media, which Facebook’s systems struggled to spot in the aftermath of the attack.

‘WORK TO DO’

Ardern said the research was welcome and that edited and manipulated videos of the March 15 mosque shootings had been slow to be removed, resulting in many, including herself, seeing it played in Facebook feeds.

Facebook has said it removed 1.5 million videos globally that contained footage of the attack in the first 24 hours after it occurred. It said in a blog post in late March that it had identified more than 900 different versions of the video.

Ardern is due to lead a meeting, with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Wednesday, that seeks to have world leaders and chiefs of tech companies sign a pledge to eliminate violent content online.

“There is a lot more work to do, but I am pleased Facebook have taken additional steps today alongside the Call and look forward to a long term collaboration to make social media safer by removing terrorist content from it,” she said.

In an opinion piece in the New York Times on Saturday, Ardern said the “Christchurch Call” would be a voluntary framework that commits signatories to put in place specific measures to prevent the uploading of terrorist content.

Ardern has not made specific demands of social media companies in connection with the pledge, but has called for them “to prevent the use of livestreaming as a tool for broadcasting terrorist attacks.”

Representatives from Facebook, Alphabet Inc’s Google, Twitter Inc and other tech companies are expected to take part in the meeting, although Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg will not be in attendance.

A 24 year old woman in Lusaka has been arrested by police for defrauding people using a Facebook Account.

The suspect identified as Jessica Chilambe Chanda has been charged for obtaining money by false pretenses.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has told Local Media in a statement that the accused has a Facebook page “Style by Jessie” which she has been advertising hair products for women as well as soliciting for capital to partner with persons in her business.

Malawi’s social media was driven to a complete pandemonium during the weekend after nude photos of a Facebook user identified as Jolenta America leaked.

Reports gathered by Face of Malawi indicate that the girl in mention leaked the photos deliberately – possibly to attain an online fame.

It has also been established that this is not the first time for the so called Jolenta America to have leaked her own nude photos on internet.

However, due to the culture of Malawians and the age of the young girl appearing in the sexual explicit pictures, Malawians on social media did not let the story slide but to comment.

“Achemwa atchukawa ali ndi makolo awo mwati?? Kapena ndichouka,” wondered one Facebook user Nicky Nicky.

Also Tammie Tammie wrote, “Sometimes I ask myself if Jolenta ali ndi Makolo komabe its none of my business”.

Also reacting on the matter was the “Rape” singer, Mwiza Chavura who was arrested in January this year over a song which the complainants claimed it encouraged rape towards women and girls.

Chavura cited the Jolenta issue to his issue saying if it was a man spreading same sexual explicit photos some groups of people would have called for an immediate arrest of the perpetrator.

“jolenta has leaked her nudes again, and niggas just enjoy the show, but if Jolenta was a man I swear women of Malawi would have gotten angry about it and ask for an arrest, they would have claimed Jolenta is doing things against our culture and our beliefs,” wrote Chavura.

Surprisingly, just three days after posting his issues showing disagreement with what Jolenta has done, Chavura is said to have approached the nudity girl for a song which the two have done together.

In the song titled Jolenta America which dropped yesterday online, Chavura is heard advising Jolenta not to embrace online fame by leaking sexual content saying such things may lead to her arrest.

Malawi police previously sent a strong warning to people who are fond of leaking bedroom photos saying that they would face charges if at all found.

Malawi`s social media went noisy on Thursday after nude photos of a girl named Nicole Candy found a way out of its designated gallery.

According to a tiny report gathered by this publication at the meantime, the photos were released by the now famous Nicole Candy`s boyfriend.

It is alleged the unidentified boyfriend had a disagreement with Nicole Candy. As a way of proving his powers over his girlfriend, the man threatened to leak her nudes of which at a later moment he did.

Meanwhile, Malawi`s social media could not accept to leave the story pass after the nudes had surfaced but instead some group of people online made it the topic of discussion for the day.

This is not the first time for Malawi`s citizen on social media to have found a topic over leaked nudes.

However, Malawi police previously sent a strong warning to people who are fond of leaking their partners` bedroom photos that they would face charges if at all found.

A 40-year-old man in Blantyre who pretended as a white person on social media has been given a suspended one month sentence for threatening to leak nude pictures of his Facebook girlfriend.

The man identified as Alex Kachimanga pretended to be a white man with a username “George Gaunt” on Facebook and in the process won a heart of 21-year-old girl who resides in area 22B in Lilongwe.

Reports say the two had been sharing romantic conversations on Facebook and also exchanging nude pictures.

According to Blantyre police publicist Sub Inspector Augustus Nkhwazi, on December 4 the man asked the girl to meet him in Blantyre at Wenela bus deport where afterwards they will proceed to have sexual intercourse.

He also threatened to leak her nude pictures if at all she won`t accept to meet him for sex.

The sentiments made the girl become suspicious such that she informed the police who went with her to meet him.

Upon meeting, she girl discovered that the man was not even a white man from South Africa as he told her on Facebook.

Later police arrested him and charged him with an offence of conduct to likely cause breach of peace contrary to section 181 of the penal code.

In court, he pleaded guilty and her Worship Catherine Magwira gave him 1 month imprisonment with hard labour but suspended the sentence to 12 months citing that he was  the first offender and he had saved court`s time by pleading guilty in time.

He was therefore told to behave well during the next 12 months and the nudes were deleted off his phone in the court.

A “racist” advert by a cosmetic company “Dove” on Sunday caused a storm on social media.

The company came under fire when it posted a series of images during the week, supposedly aimed at “representing the beauty of diversity”.

In a sequence of images, a black woman is seen taking off a brown T-shirt, with a white woman being revealed in the last image.

The images caused an uproar on social media, with users slamming the company and vowing to stop using its products.

The company has since issued a statement, saying it deeply regretted the offense caused by the advert.

“Dove committed to representing the beauty of diversity. In an image we posted this week, we missed the mark in thoughtfully representing women of color and we deeply regret the offense that it has caused.

“The feedback that has been shared is important to us and we’ll use it to guide us in the future.”

Social media went in complete pandemonium yesterday after Tay-Grin posted some pictures which he posed with some of US hip-hop artists at the Secret Solstice Festival event which the Nyau-King was also among other African artists invited to perform at the event in Iceland.

Ten May posted the below status that led to a whole disagreement and it received many likes and comments by some Malawian artists like Third Eye and Hazel Mak who Is also in a relationship with Nathan Tunes.

The famous pastor Mboro who is well known by pulling different stunts has again claimed on his Facebook page that he went to hell and killed Satan.

On a post that was later deleted when people started asking questions, the pastor claimed God sent him to hell to get rid of world’s number one enemy.

He wrote “when I got to hell there was a queue of millions of people waiting to be braai’d by Satan. I even saw some prominent South African politicians.

“I was so shocked because they lived like angels here on earth. I thought they went to heaven. When Satan saw me he panicked and directed his army to kill me. Like Samson in the Bible, I defeated them. Satan was my last victim.”

He then received a moria of insults and condemnation from people who told him to stop misleading people.

The post went down after an hour.

It is not clear whether he will post it again or not. His claims comes months after another equally controversial pastor claimed he went to heaven and took pictures with Jesus.
