“Any officer or consultant in the service of the Bureau who (a)except as a witness in any count or in pursuance of his duties directly or indirectly reveals to any unauthorized person or otherwise the contents of any document, communication or information whatsoever which has come to his knowledge in the course of his duties as such officer or consultant; (b) make use for his own purposes, any knowledge acquired from such document, communication or information, shall be guilty of an offense and liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding K50,000.00 and to a term of imprisonment of five years,” reads Section 4 of the regulations.

Besides revealing information to her friend, Chizuma is also heard confessing that she also shares details of investigations with France-based social media influencer, Stanley Onjezani Kenani.

Kenani has been an advocate of Chizuma on social media. The leaked phone call only confirms where he has been getting information all this time.

The phone call – believed to have been recorded by the other interlocutor – also exposes Chizuma’s lack of respect for Malawian judges labeling them corrupt and reliant on bribes.

Her attack on the learned judges comes as a direct reference to a recent episode where High Court Judge, Simeon Mdeza, released Ashok Nair who is an agent of embattled businessman Zuneith Sattar.

Ashok was released weeks ago when the High Court faulted the arrest of Lands Minister, Kezzie Msukwa.

From the phone recording (attached below) it is clear that Chizuma has chosen to fight corruption by sidelining key stakeholders who matter in issuing consent and prosecution.

She openly despises the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecution as offices that are frustrating her drive.

Interestingly, one of the reasons Judge Mdeza gave for releasing Ashok Nair and stopping the arrest of Kezzie Msukwa was because ACB acted without notifying the office of the Attorney General.

Her lack of respect for the two important offices is what is derailing smooth coordination in the fight against corruption. These are offices that will have to offer legal support and aid her to attain desirable results in form of convictions in the court of law.

Lately, there have been growing sentiments within the legal fraternity that Chizuma, despite her celebrity status on social media – does not have a compelling track record of courtroom competence. She has no prominent victories for any client before any judge or magistrate.

The phone conversation also reveals her intentions to use social media influencers and the faith community to fight her battles.

Ironically she is heard casting doubt on whether she can fully rely on Pentecostals and Catholics for the mere fact that the State President and State Vice President are communicant members respectively.

The 12 minutes 34 seconds call finally vindicates those who have questioned Chizuma’s ineffectiveness as ACB director both in terms of integrity and legal competence.

“We held our general elections on Thursday and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has released the final results. Based on the ECZ results, I will comply with the constitutional provisions for peaceful transitions of power,” Lungu said.

’’I would, therefore, congratulate my brother the president-elect, His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema for becoming the seventh republican president.”

The same happened in Malawi in June last year when opposition leader Lazarus Chakwera won the country’s rerun presidential election, defeating incumbent Peter Mutharika with 58,57% of the vote.

Thumps-up to the military and the election governing bodies in the two countries for ensuring that electoral justice prevails.

In the case of Malawi, an independent Judiciary refused to be cowed by the incumbent to perpetuate his unpopular rule and abnormalities in the initial election to order a rerun which the opposition won.

The examples set in Zambia and Malawi should be cherished and emulated by all Sadc countries for long-term peace and stability in the region.

The two countries, though far inferior in terms of economic development, have shown others in the region how real democracy works.

Sadc should move away from the scourge of disputed elections that has continued to plague most of its member States, Zimbabwe being the chief culprit.

The region has continued to tolerate wayward behavior by the military and ruling Zanu PF party in Zimbabwe. Soldiers have been beating people while propping up the ruling party.

Sadc stood aloof in 2008 when the late former President Robert Mugabe refused to concede defeat to MDC–T leader Morgan Tsvangirai in the first round of the polls.

Mugabe declared that he could not be removed by a pen (elections) and Sadc failed to take him to account.

What has been happening in Zimbabwe is in sharp contrast to what obtains in her regional peers. Zimbabwe’s progress has been stifled by haggling between the ruling party and the opposition.

Ruling party supporters and top government officials should respect the will of the people.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission should act professionally as a true custodian of the people’s votes, and the military should steer clear of civilian matters.

This culture of disputed elections cannot continue to be tolerated in the region.

COVID-19 has come either to live among humans like HIV/Aids or just to pass by. In either situation, the impact of COVID-19 is real not only on personal finances but also at corporate level. Living under COVID-19 restrictions is a new experience for Malawi and other countries across the world struggling to contain Covid-19. As we adapt to this new reality, it is important to actively manage some of the financial stresses that the COVID-19 restrictions present.

The financial impact of COVID -19 restrictions will be with us long after the restrictions are lifted. Thus, minimizing the long-term impact of COVID-19 on our household finances is critical at this time. Here are some of the things we need to do on:

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"
     data-ad-slot="7539584649"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Food, stress and health

At the most basic level the COVID-19 restrictions have added stress to Malawians who are already in the unprecedented unstable social- political environment that has followed the May 2019 Tripartite Elections resulting in more slowing down of economic activities.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"
     data-ad-slot="7539584649"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Stress and anxiety often drives up the consumption of comfort food and binge or boredom eating. Binge eating means eating an amount of food that is definitely larger than what most people would eat in a similar period of time under normal circumstances. The time is now to avoid eating much more rapidly than normal. Avoid eating until feeling uncomfortably full. And avoid eating large amounts of food when not feeling physically hungry.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"
     data-ad-slot="7539584649"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Excessive food consumption is not only unhealthy, undermining your immune system, but it also results in higher grocery bills, Hence managing your food consumption responsibly during this period is key to spend less on food. Remember too that whenever you do need to go to buy groceries and others, you are required to observe the physical distancing protocols that have been put in place to lessen the risk of the contracting or spreading the virus.

Data and electricity costs

As many and more companies are encouraging their employees to work from home, this requires more data and electricity. With almost everyone being at home, will translate to a spike in television watching, live streaming and social media activity for entertainment as well as online learning. Thanks to network providers for providing free access to selected online lessons. However some of students are left out of that provision hence the need for them to have own data. To help control data costs, make sure you:

• stream from a single device

• download content during non-peak time when the internet speed is fast

• limit streaming high definition content where possible

• if you have a cellphone monitor your airtime, voice and data consumption to minimize costs.

• Avoid opening applications that use more data when not using them.

Need to change Lifestyle

It is important to consider in our monthly budgeting inclusion of detergents and washing soaps since observing hygiene is one of the important components in this time of crisis. Do the following: –

• Adjust your budget by considering inclusion of soaps and detergents in your listings.

• It is important to teach children and relatives at home good hygienic ways in order to avoid contacting Covid-19.

• It is time to consider hygiene as culture in budgeting.

Increased financial responsibilities

Many families in Malawi are extended families. This means we live together with even distant relatives as part of our culture. As a result, people are feeding many mouths even during this difficult times which is stretching their budgets. Here is what you can do to manage your stretched budget: have a frank and honest discussion with your family and explain what is possible and what is not. Make sure they understand that you will only be able to cater for essential items such as food and other basic necessities.

When you draw up a budget and include other family members in your expenses, prioritize the most important costs first. For example, if you usually cater for a family member’s transport costs, let them know that as they won’t be travelling much due to restrictions, you will make an allocation only for food and electricity.

Use credit wisely and responsibly

While it is never advisable to buy food on credit, it may be unavoidable during these COVID-19 restrictions. However, proceed with the utmost caution and only borrow what you will be able to repay. Thanks to some financial services who have decided to offers loan repayment relief due to COVID-19 pandemic to their customers. This is an opportunity for us to spend on the very basic needs. Make sure you are alert as many more credible institutions are coming up with creative ways to take the pressure off some of their most vulnerable customers.

Time for bold decisions – not drastic action

If your budgeting shows that you are going to be short of money, be prepared to cut costs. Live on more affordable food. Eliminate unnecessary big purchases that you do not really need.

It is no longer a secret that some companies are reducing employees’ salaries due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions. Others are even strategizing on retrenching some workers as the businesses can no longer support them all. Certainly, this COVID-19 times is not a time for job-hopping, since we do not know what the long-term implications of the pandemic will be. This is not the time to be leaving a secure employer for another whose survival is not certain. Whether or not COVID-19 has come to stay among humans like HIV/Aids, it is still hard to predict if the virus will be brought under control shortly. What is evident is that unless we are prudent with our finances right now, this period will have prolonged financial implications for most households and companies.

In conclusion, taking safety measures to protect your financial health, and being as strict about this as you are with your physical health, can help you get through this challenging time with your finances reasonably intact.

It is about mind slavery. Once you make a person hate themselves and who they are, (referring to their ‘cultural history’) you don’t need to kill or put them in prison because you’ve made them their own worst enemy.

The oppression of the mind is the most powerful tool you can use to break a person.

In the late 19th Century, Europeans flooded into Africa with the sole intention of ‘bringing light into the dark continent’. Be that as it may have been, it did not mean that Africa then was a backward landmass for we had advanced socio-political and socio-economic systems that had been in place and sustained society since time immemorial. Concerning the Europeans’ arrival and escapades in Africa, John Henrik Clarke, an African-American historian, professor, and a pioneer in the creation of Pan-African and Africana studies, said: “They laughed at your clothes; and made you change your clothes, they laughed at your names; and made you change your name; but more importantly they laughed at your God; and made you change your God.” From an African point of view, Africa never was, is, or will be a laughing stock despite all the challenges and the shortcomings we face.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"

     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

The continent has to reject the notion that being modern and civilized means imitating the west. It is the 21st Century and while most African nations have adopted the language, political ideology, socio-economic structures, education and everything that makes up a nation, even down to popular culture, from the west, we still have a total dependency on our own traditional political philosophies and ideas and their shifts and movements.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"
     data-ad-slot="7539584649"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

However, it is sad to note that this is largely evident in rural communities and in the poorer countries of the continent and not in metropolises and richer countries.

Africa Has Above-Standard Intellectual Theories

That Africa has taken to western norms and cultures, makes John Henrik Clarke’s statement about the West laughing at us ever so true today.

Whatever the West normalises eventually trickles down to Africa and is adopted as a norm. essentially, this means that, slowly, Africa continues to be slowly emptied of its essence, and becoming a relic, no different in substance from a statue or a museum.

As Africans, we should strongly desist from persuading the rest of the world to believe that anything from our continent is inferior.

For instance, celebrations of Africa on the international scene mostly involve dancing, music, traditional fashion, and other cultural artifacts.

Africans hardly ever showcase African-originated economic ideas, social ideologies, or intellectual theories.

It is not that these do not exist, but the world has successfully convinced everyone that everything African is substandard.

Echoes of 19th Century Colonists

It is the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and we are told that its either you adapt or you die. African leaders are telling us that the way of the west is ‘modern and civilised’.

They echo the 19th Century colonialists who dismissed African civilisations as backward, barbaric and uncivilised. Sadly, this is becoming Africa’s reality.

Westerners, aided by our very own, tell us that our institutions are corrupt, that our societies are patriarchal, and that the African traditional religions are heathen.

To echo John Henrik Clarke’s remarks, they are, indeed, laughing at us.

However, this is of little concern to Africa’s elites.

For them, what matters is to find what the political currency is in the US or Europe, and to uncritically follow it.

Whereas people in the west are de-emphasising patriotism and nationalism, Africans need these to build sustainable nations.

Ultimately, we need to look into traditional African systems and extract coherent policies that can help form workable and uniquely African social and systems.

This is the only viable path to preventing the continent from fully becoming western Africa – and the only way to ending the continent’s long-term political decay.

Let Africa not be like them. As we celebrate Africa Month in May, let Mother Africa rise up to become the powerhouse that it is destined to be with all its sons and daughter.

Let Africa be the one to have the last laugh for they have been laughing at us for centuries but we shall serve them no longer.

Ras David chikomeni Chirwa’s endorsement of Peter Mutharika did not come as a total surprise.

He is the only famous of all the presidential wannabes whose nomination papers Malawi electoral commission rejected. With May 21 around the corner, and political parties desperate for votes, it was just a matter of time before one desperate party sought after the deadlocked Rastas influence.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"
     data-ad-slot="7539584649"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

However, the way Chikomeni and DPP’s policies ended up compromising over a meeting is totally surprising. Out of this meeting, which the DPP’s vice president for the south-Honourable Kondwani Nankhumwa hosted Ras Chikomeni, came the decision to endorse Mutharika.

From their discussions Chikomeni concluded Mutharika is the only candidate with the ability to develop this country and improve living conditions of Malawians.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"

     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

This contradicts the rastaman’s earlier sentiment that he would be a better leader than the incumbent, who is failing to address unemployment and many other problems, Malawi is struggling with it is not clearly understood how the Rastafarian’s political ideologies changed overnight.

     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Rumor has it that huge sums of money changed accounts during the meeting, Ras chikomeni dismisses the rumour, he insists he did it for the kids who are denied places in government schools because of religious beliefs. He was quoted-“Anyone approaching me was supposed to understand what we, rastas, want.

I am a Malawian and the DPP is a party in power. It is the government, which approached me. i consider that as a sign that the government is taking care of us.

We have been crying that we want to go to school in dreadlocks.” Like a joke, Ras Chikomeni came into the spotlight. his decision to stand for the presidency got him the fame, but it seemed to have been made under the influence of a little too much grass. His drafted policies for transforming Malawi had Malawians thinking otherwise.

He promised a million jobs from the hemp industry alone and to fight for the rights of his fellow dread-locked Rastas who do not enjoy full citizenry rights.

No wonder he pulled a huge crowd during the ceremony of presenting his nomination papers, the crowd testified of the many hearts, which had fallen for Ras Chikomeni, it proved Ras Chikomeni very influential. will the influence which has got him involved with DPP deliver or betray.

If DPP gets re-elected, will we have dread-locked students in government schools?. Only time will tell.

Was Ras Chikomeni Chirwa a joker?
No, he was a REVOLUTIONARY.

Listen to his words after his nomination was turned down:” Ndinayesesa. Koma chandivuta ndi umphawi. This should be a lesson to Malawians. No matter how hard you try. No matter how much love you. But if you are poor, the system will always make sure you remain poor and the rich get richer.. This is my story. Tomorrow it might be you. Not in the political field but maybe in the educational field, where you are intelligent but can’t pay fees. Maybe in the health field where you can’t get treatment. Don’t laugh at me, let this be a lesson. We might all be Malawians in the eyes but we are divided. Some are poor like me and some are able to buy their way into everything. I still love those that supported me despite my financial state.”

     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

1. He wore a shirt inscribed ETHIOPIA. This is not Ethiopia as we currently know it. It is ETHIOPIA the ancient, the true name of the continent known as Africa.. Why did he put on that shirt? He was pronouncing his political philosophy. He was saying; ” I am a Pan-Africanist, I believe in the total emancipation of the African people and I am committed to the decolonisation of the African mindset as it currently stands.

2. He choose, note choose, because he later read in English with an above average fluency, to speak in Chichewa, a widely spoken and known language. He rejected to use the language of the oppressor. He used the language of the people. He was fully identifying with them. He used the language of inclusion.

3.Ras Chikomeni Chirwa represents a community of people that feels marginalised and excluded from taking part in the mainstreams of Malawian life. It is a growing group. It meets in exclusive places mostly along rivers of squatter communities of our cities and in mountain areas of our rural areas. You might ask, Why did he seems to be a sole sojourner? It is because he is a visionary who sees far ahead of his community. His action will open the eyes of his compatriots. In 10 to 15 years time, this will be a community to contend with. It is time the rest of us Malawians begun to listen to their voice.

4. From his statement above he also belongs to the community of those that are called poor, and they make the majority of the population in Malawi. One day these will be mobilized, God forbid, not into a Revolutionary Movement that will be ready to die for a cause. The message from Ras Chikomeni Chirwa is simple” Pay attention to the plight of the poor, we will not be patient for ever, none of you are our representatives.

5. The question is ” Didn’t he know he will be rejected for lack of payment of the fee?” The answer is, he knew very well. Why did he then come anyway? To demonstrate on a national platform that ” this is an exclusive society, we the poor remain the downtrodden and scum of the earth.

This is not a simple message. Those who have studied Liberation Theology should understand this. This man is thinking at a higher plane that most of us see and conceptualize.HE IS NO FOOL.

In conclusion, was Ras Chikomeni Chirwa a laughing matter? Fellow Malawians “Do not laugh, this might be a brewing revolution whose fire we might fail to extinguish. I am not laughing. Ras Chikomeni Chirwa has communicated a serious message. It calls for meditation.

I’d like to understand how that most individuals claim that God elects certain individuals into power when God wasn’t involved at all in casting a ballot. It is true that God can appoint a leader suitable for a nation/constituency but it’s not always the case that such a leader is chosen by God.

Drawing conclusions after votes have been counted that whoever won is the one God chose is emphatically a blatant lie and void of simple reasoning. He might be or not, there’s no direct guess-way knowing about it. Every “people” gets a leader they deserve. Whether that leader was voted into power or followed through influence. If at all the votes aren’t rigged then that leader is a reflection of the people who ascribe to his agendas, aspirations, ideas and principles. Leadership of every nation/constituency reflects the character of the majority in it.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"
     data-ad-slot="7539584649"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Power is to us to choose a leader suitable for ourselves. The problem is that many are unaware of qualities to look for when choosing a political leader. I have you 5 checks you could use.

1. CHECK THEIR PAST EXPERIENCE
Nobody becomes a leader simply because they have attained a position. A leader is known by their ability to bring positive change regardless of where they find themselves. So if they have a position but they are not leading change they are not leaders but position holders. So if you really want to know a true leader, search them and identify a track record of positive changes they made before at whatever field of work they found themselves. If they have never made any significant change, even at a small scale (at school, church, community, work place) , they are likely not to. But if they did, it is likely embedded in them to make positive changes and they are likely going to do it.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"
     data-ad-slot="7539584649"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

2. CHECK THE STATE OF THEIR PAST OR PRESENT “FELLOWS” (FOLLOWERS).
A leader uses their consummate personality to build leaders in ordinary people. Therefore a leader doesn’t lead followers he leads leaders; let’s call them “fellows”. Because himself and everyone else are one team leading change. Check whether the leader’s fellows’ lives were/are advancing as their own. Check whether the fellows were/are able to take the same responsibility as their leader to make changes at any scale. Check their personality (their mindset and behaviour). A leader must be able to transform those around them to be like them. A leader doesn’t enrich themselves.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-0498367520857404"
     data-ad-slot="7539584649"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

3. CHECK THEIR CHARACTER
Don’t be fooled that a political party they represent will have much bearing on what they will do. When you vote, you’re really not voting for a political party representative into power but a character. That’s why under the same political party, some leaders made so much development while others didn’t. Character can simply be defined as consistency of integrity. And integrity is congruence of words and action; being able to do what you say in adherence to societal morals amd rightness. If they are full of compromise they are definitely not a good choice. So don’t choose a leader because they have charisma neither choose them because they are calm and collected. Most politicians make promises they don’t keep, there are just but a few who really accomplish what they promise. Knowing their character may help you determine whether or not they’ll keep their promises.

4. CHECK THEIR VISION; AND THEIR STRATEGIES OF FULFILLING IT.
A vision whether at a national or community level must comprise of action steps to be taken to achieve progress in different areas of the nation/community. The responsibility of the aspiring leader is to present that vision to the people, outline how the people fit into that vision and how it will be accomplished. Your responsibility as voter is to critically analyze that vision, see how feasible it is and how you fit yourself in that vision. If a vision is not broad enough to accommodate people to take up initiatives to accomplish it. It’s not good enough a vision for the targeted people. A vision must stir up people to do something. Having seen the aspirant leader’s vision how are you personally stired to be involved in making a positive change?

5. CHECK HOW THEY SAFEGUARD GOD’S RIGHTEOUS CAUSE
Life is spiritual. Whether you agree with that or not but it’s true. Any leader who has no regard for spiritual matters and abuse them, can not be trusted to “lead” a nation or a community. Political leaders are capable of developing policies that can “limit” progression of FAITH. Keep such leaders in check. As long as that particular practice of FAITH does not do any harm to humanity they shouldn’t abstract it from operation. This world is only being preserved by a few people who recognize the presence of God. It’s disastrous for any nation or community to destroy that.

Africa may seem to be spared. But our Natural Disasters don’t come and go. They are there forever.
Africa’s Natural Disasters are our Presidents. Almost all African presidents have to be forced to handover power. Why?
They are perpetrators of corruption. How they award contracts, spend much on insignificant projects and stuff. They initiate projects just to create a funnel of directing funds into their pockets at the other end.
They get loans from international bodies and use for personal projects at the expense of the poor. A child to be born in 10 years coming will find a loan to repay yet 75% of the amount was shared among politicians.
They employ aganyu omwe amawapaka mafuta (ignorant people) to defend their clear mistakes. They abuse power.
They don’t mind making everyone suffer as long as a few people who make noise on their behalf are happy.
They are untouchable, they are gods. No matter what they do they can only be answerable after 10 years.
Our presidents are a natural disaster. Africa is not spared from natural disasters. They are more than hurricanes. Opinion by MC Elias Yairo from Social Media.
