A 22-year-old student from Lake Malawi Anglican University (LAMAU), Lizzie Nyson, who had been missing for nearly two weeks, has been found dead in Lilongwe.

According to a statement released by the university, Nyson, a third-year Public Health student, was last seen on March 22, 2026, after relocating from Area 49 to Area 47, Sector 1 on March 18.

Her body was discovered in a decomposed state on the morning of April 3, 2026, in a bush behind ABC Blue Gym in Area 47, Sector 1.

The university has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic development, extending condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the entire student community.

Burial arrangements are already underway, with her remains scheduled to be laid to rest at Area 18 Cemetery on the same day.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.

The University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) has announced the death of its Vice Chancellor, Timothy Nyasulu.

In a statement released by the institution, Nyasulu passed away on Tuesday evening at Ekwendeni Mission Hospital.

“With profound sorrow, we announce the death of our Vice Chancellor, the Very Reverend Associate Professor Timothy Nyasulu,” reads part of the statement.

The university says details regarding funeral arrangements will be communicated later.

Nyasulu is being remembered as a dedicated academic, clergyman, and leader who made a significant impact on the institution and those he served.

Zomba Police public relations officer Patricia Sipiliano has died.

Deputy national police spokesperson Alfred Chimthere has confirmed the development, saying Sipiliano died after a short illness at Zomba Central Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment.

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi, through its Chairperson Golden Matonga, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mzimba Community Radio Deputy Station Manager, James Nyirenda, who died after drowning in the Mzimba River.

According to Mzimba Community Radio Station Manager Clement Mseteka, Nyirenda drowned on the night of Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Nyirenda joined Mzimba Community Radio in 2007 as a volunteer before leaving the station. He later rejoined in 2017 as Head of Marketing and Producer, and in 2024 he was appointed Deputy Station Manager.

In a statement, Matonga said Nyirenda dedicated his life to serving communities through radio and played a critical role in mentoring young and upcoming community media journalists in Mzimba and beyond.

He said Nyirenda’s professionalism, experience, and commitment to community broadcasting will be greatly missed by the media fraternity.

Nyirenda will be laid to rest on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Jotoli Nyirenda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mzikubola, Mzimba District.

The body of former Malawi Queens and Mafco Soldiers defender, Melenia Gideon, is set to be laid to rest this afternoon in Chinsapo, Lilongwe, following her passing yesterday in the capital city.

Gideon, a wing defender (WD), was also a dedicated soldier at Mafco Barracks, serving for eight years in the Malawi Defence Force (MDF). Her impressive football skills played a key role in her military career, and she also served as a physical education instructor, inspiring many young athletes.

Paying tribute, Australia-based Malawi Queens shooter Mwawi Kumwenda-M’bwana wrote on Facebook:
“Melenia, you’ll always be remembered by the Malawi Queens. You were the best WD this country has seen. May you rest in peace.”

Her family revealed that Gideon had been battling illness prior to her passing. She leaves behind a legacy of service to both sport and country.

A teacher who was reported missing a few days ago in Mangochi District has been found dead.

Alice Wiliat, a teacher at Chiona Community Day Secondary School (CDSS), went missing on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Reports indicate that she left home to go to her farm but first stopped at a nearby house where she left her bicycle, intending to proceed on foot.

However, she never returned to collect the bicycle and could not be traced thereafter, raising concern among family members and the community.

Her body was later discovered in a river located between Chiona Primary School and Mbonechera Primary School in Mangochi District.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

Wiliat hailed from Kayembe in Dowa District. Before being posted to Chiona CDSS, she previously taught at Chiona Primary School in Boma Zone, Mangochi District.

The Football Legends Association (FLA) has expressed deep sorrow following the death of former Blue Eagles FC goalkeeper, Elijah Enyama Msukwa, who was also a dedicated member of the association.

In a statement, FLA described Msukwa as a passionate, humble, and committed figure whose service to the football community—both on and off the pitch—will always be remembered and cherished.

According to the association, Msukwa died after suffering from high blood pressure complications.

FLA President Jim Kalua said the organisation is devastated by the loss, noting that Msukwa was a loyal and active member who contributed greatly to the growth of football in the country.

His death comes just days after the association also lost another member, former Flames striker Esau Kanyenda, who passed away last Tuesday in the United Kingdom.

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is grieving the sudden death of Kenneth Kavana Mkese, who graduated in absentia just two days ago with a Bachelor of Science in Agroforestry.

Mkese, widely known on campus for his energy and leadership, was an active sportsman and captain of the university’s hockey team. The Hockey Association of Malawi, in a tribute posted on its Facebook page, described him as a dedicated and talented player whose influence will be remembered.

According to LUANAR, Mkese had been unwell prior to the graduation ceremony, prompting him to receive his degree in absentia. Details of the illness have not been disclosed.

Heartbreak has struck a Luanshya family in Zambia after a newlywed woman, Saya Mwale, passed away just one month after her beautiful wedding. Saya Mwale, 26, died on November 16, 2025, leaving behind her grief-stricken husband, Agape Nhlanhla Ngwenya.

Saya and Agape had married on September 27, 2025, following their traditional Chilanga Mulilo ceremony held on August 9.

Saya’s sister, Cindy Kasalwe, spoke exclusively to TV Yatu, sharing the details of the sudden tragedy. According to Kasalwe, Saya fell ill just a few weeks into her marriage, despite having been in good health throughout the wedding preparations.

The young bride was hospitalized for several days, battling a suspected case of malaria. She was later discharged after her condition reportedly improved. However, tragically, just days after returning home, Saya’s health deteriorated, leading to her death on November 16.

A senior medical specialist at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH), Dr. Victoria Bobe, has been murdered in her home by unknown assailants, hospital authorities have confirmed.

QECH director Dr. Kevin Mponda told Zodiak this morning that the hospital is devastated by the tragic loss, describing Dr. Bobe as a dedicated and compassionate professional who contributed immensely to the medical field.

Dr. Mponda said the late gynaecologist was not only a committed clinician but also a mentor to young doctors and a valued lecturer at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS).

The body of renowned filmmaker and actor Ashukile Mwakisulu will be laid to rest on Wednesday at his home village under Traditional Authority Kilipula in Karonga District.

Mwakisulu, who once served as Vice Chairperson of the Film Association of Malawi, passed away on Monday at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.

His brother Wandumi Mwakisulu confirmed the development, saying the body will be taken to Mthunzi on Tuesday, followed by a memorial service at Lunzu Assemblies of God Church before transportation to Karonga for burial.

Mwakisulu was well-known for his work in celebrated Shemu Joyah films such as The Last Fishing Boat and Road to Sunrise. He also directed his own productions including All We Have is Us and Goal Line.

Additionally, he starred in popular Malawian television dramas such as Mitekete and Choices, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and dedication to the local film industry.

South African Police are investigating the brutal killing of two young women, Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21), who were found dead in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, on Sunday morning.

Neighbours reported hearing heated arguments followed by gunshots before discovering the bodies of the cousins.

Preliminary reports indicate that a man who allegedly spent about R10,000 on alcohol for the two women at a local groove may be connected to the incident.

The tragedy has triggered a wave of reactions across social media, with many users urging women to exercise caution and avoid relying on strangers for financial support when going out.

The Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture has confirmed the of Traditional Authority (T/A) Matola of Balaka District.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the late chief, born Rosmos Malehe, passed away on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, where he was receiving treatment.

The late T/A Matola was born on 9th October 1952 and was officially installed as Traditional Authority on 19th May 2019.

He is survived by a wife and six children.

Meanwhile, Balaka District Council spokesperson Mary Makhiringa has, describing the late chief’s passing as a great loss to the district and the nation at large.

According to the Ministry, the programme for the burial of the departed chief will be announced in due course.

The Malawian arts industry is mourning the death of actor Harry Mbelenga, aged 43, who was known for his roles in the popular drama series Tonde Wadula and Mwachande.

Mbelenga, who also worked as a truck driver transporting fuel, passed away in Mozambique inside the truck he was driving.

According to Tonde Wadula director Harry Suliyani, Mbelenga had complained of feeling unwell before embarking on the journey. Suliyani explained that at one point, people in Mozambique noticed the truck parked by the roadside but the driver was not stepping out. When they checked, they found that Mbelenga was unresponsive.

A relative, who is also a truck driver, rushed him to the hospital where doctors confirmed that he had died upon arrival.

Mbelenga was popularly known by his screen names Yona Masheba and Chikumbutso in the two series. He is survived by his wife and one child.

His burial is expected to take place tomorrow in Chileka, Blantyre

The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) is mourning the death of  Ken Thayo, a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Knowledge and Systems Practice.

According to a statement from the University Registrar, Thayo passed away on 8th September 2025 in Lilongwe. His body will be transported from Lilongwe to Chikwawa on 9th September 2025, with burial scheduled for Wednesday, 10th September 2025, at Jombo Trading, after Nchalo.

In the announcement, the university extended its condolences to the bereaved family and the entire MUST community, describing this as a difficult time for all.

This tragedy comes just months after the university lost another student, Asimenye Mzuma, who died following a tragic accident on 17th May this year. Mzuma, who was in his final year of study, passed away at Thyolo Hospital after sustaining severe injuries while fleeing bees on Midima Mountain. He reportedly struck a rock during the incident while climbing the mountain with friends.

The loss of two promising young lives within a short period has left the MUST community deeply saddened.

“May their souls rest in eternal peace,” the statement concluded.

Malawi is mourning the death of celebrated Hip Hop artist Bossaro Ice, a member of the iconic Bosaro Music Group, who passed away on 7 September 2025 at the age of 38.

Born Dalitso Mtambo, Bossaro Ice was widely respected in the local music scene, having collaborated with big names such as Piksy, Hyphen, and Gwamba. His music catalogue remains available on Malawi-music.com, where fans can continue to celebrate his legacy.

He leaves behind his wife and four children.

According to a family spokesperson, Charles Liabunya, the artist had not been ill for a long time before his untimely passing. Liabunya further confirmed that his remains will be laid to rest today in Zomba.
