Malawi’s national football team, the Flames, will face South Africa in the final round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN)  qualification matches.

South Africa secured their spot in this stage after defeating Egypt 3-1 in the second-leg match, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

The Flames reached this stage by eliminating Comoros with a convincing 4-0 aggregate victory, with the decisive match played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The much-anticipated clash between Malawi’s Flames and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana is scheduled to take place in May 2025.

Senegal Football Association has sacked national tea’ manager Alilou Cisse after caaching the the team for nine years.

The team has parted ways with Cisse barely nine days before they host the Flames in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in Dakar.

The Senegalese FA emergency committee met yesterday (Tuesday ) where a decision not to renew the coach’s contact was made following a directive from that country’s Minister of Youth Sports and Culture Khady Diane Gaye.

Cisse took the charge as head coach for Teranga Lions in 2015 and his longevity in role helped the team as Africa’s top ranked side for over four years.

Meanwhile, in Malawi, fans have taken to social media to urge the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to consider hiring Cisse as a replacement for current coach Patrick Mabedi, who has faced criticism following the team’s recent poor performances.

South African based Malawian Boxer Isaac Chilemba has announced his plans of taking two more fights before leaving the Ring

Chilemba broke off his retirement plans and suffered a second round defeat from a Russian Boxer Alexei Papin in Moscow last month.

“I already started conditioning training to get back in shape and avoid a repeat of last month’s bout and I want one or two bouts to leave the ring graciously” chilemba said

However, he added that, he will updating his followers and the boxing fraternity on his next step soon

Meanwhile, Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board President Lonzoe Defector Zimba said Chilemba must take his action and made his mind up to avoid losing in such manner.

“If he has made up his mind not to retire, then he should take his training seriously otherwise he will end up get hurt” he said.

Chilemba’s record is at 27 wins, 10 losses and three draws.

The former Boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has reported suffering a medical emergency during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles United States Of America on Saturday.

The 57 year-old boxer, became nauseous and dizzy, forcing flight staff to ask passengers if there was a doctor on board to provide assistance.

Paramedics boarded the plane, which had already been delayed by two hours in Miami because of the heat, once it touched down in Los Angeles to give treatment.

Minister of Youths and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire on Thursday, ensured residents of Mwanza that government will construct world class stadium in the district.

Speaking in the August House after Mwanza Central legislator, Nicholas Dausi wanted to know its progress, Mkandawire said his ministry in conjunction with the Ministry of Local government will which is implementing the project understand the important of the infrastructure to the people of the district.

“Mr First deputy Speaker Sir, I would like to assure the senior member of this house who is also MP for Mwanza central that Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s administration will construct a world class stadium in his area,” said Mkandawire.

According to him, the Mwanza Stadium will constructed in a design that will allow it to carry intern games.

Dausi said such infrastructures are very important to the people of Mwanza.

“It is almost 100 kilometers from Mwanza to Blantyre where there is a stadium and where government is in process of implementing other new modern stadiums. It will be good if government construct the same in Mwanza,” he pleaded.

Apart from the stadium, Dausi also asked Ministry of Labour to construct a Technical College in the district saying Mwanza is the only district without such infrastructure in the country.

On Wednesday and Thursday, President Chakwera was busy inspecting stadiums in Chitipa and Mzimba districts respectively.

The Malawi Kickboxing Association (MAKBA) has organized a Kickboxing match in Zomba town as part of the celebration on 25 December this year.

Secretary General of MAKBA, Bright Limani said that about 30 men will be fighting at China Complex in Chinamwali.

“There is a fight in Zomba the men are ready to give the audience a good show and everything is in order,” said Limani.

He said that at the moment, fighters from Tianjin kickboxing, Thondwe, Don Bman, Kachere, Mangochi, Bangwe, Real fitness, BYC, Lilongwe and Mzuzu kickboxing are the ones who will be fighting on that day.

Kickboxing differs from boxing in that punches and kicks are allowed.

The Gypsy King of England is amazingly, wonderfully, sensationally – and tearfully – the new heavyweight champion of the world.

Tyson Fury ended the decade-long reign of the great Wladimir Klitschko with a display of astonishing nerve and virtuosity – just as he said he would.

It was the biggest shock in boxing since James Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson 25 years ago as he inflicted Kitschko’s first defeat since 2004 to win the IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight titles.

The 27-year-old Mancunian giant made the near-40-year-old Klitschko look slow and old with elusive daring, his impudent taunting and, above all, with his quickness of hand and foot.

But it wasn’t simply the Ukrainian hitting the age barrier which has opened a rich world of opportunity to the man who would be happier living in a traveller’s caravan than a mansion.

As is custom, Fury burst into song in the ring after winning.

What preceded that was a phenomenal effort and a richly deserved triumph against heavy betting odds.

Fury had talked the talk for months and he didn’t just walk the walk, he danced the dance.

Klitschko struggled all night to catch up with him and although there were rounds which Fury let slip by failing to throw enough punches, his triumph was for unorthodox valiance.

Both men were generous to the other at the end.

Fury may have to do it all again as it is believe there is a re-match clause in the contract.

Perhaps back in Germany if that proves to be the best commercial prospect. Although Wembley Stadium would fill for this one.

Whether Kitschko would want to go through all the frustration again is another matter.

He could retire.

For Fury, who now holds all those treasured belts, there is the prospect of a huge unification bout with American holder of the WBC title, Deontay Wilder.

Fury thanked Jesus. Klitschko admitted: ‘I couldn’t land by jab or my big right.’

That says it all.

It was just above freezing in Dusseldorf but the roof firmly closed over the Esprit Arena and the carpet covering the football turf ensured a hot night, at least so far as the temperature within was concerned.

This was a welcome change from Hamburg three years ago when Klitschko beat David Haye as icy winds swirled teeming rain around the canopy covering the ring, soaking the rest of us.

Generating a fight to match the heat of the great indoors was up to Fury and Klitschko but they had a comfortable environment in which to work.

A second threat by Fury to pull out of the biggest night of his life had also given him the foothold he wanted in the ring. A protest, supported by the British Boxing Board of Control, secured the removal of a thick layer of foam from under the canvas which gave the floor of the ring the impression of a bouncy castle, which would have put a man of Fury’s vast size at risk of a twisted ankle.

Fury said he had ‘never been in a ring so spongy’. He won that appeal, as he had already prevailed with his demand to wear his preferred gloves.

So the big fight went ahead, with Fury having just been told by his wife, Paris, that she is expecting their third child. Despite being pregnant she was at ringside wearing a jacket emblazoned with silver dollar motifs, among a crowd of more than 50,000.

The rich and famous wined and dined sumptuously on one end of the pitch, in the manner to which they have become accustomed at these lavish Klitschko occasions.

There was another complaint when Team Fury discovered that Klitschko’s hands had been wrapped without their observer present. The champion duly unwrapped and re-wrapped his hands.

Rod Stewart – as well as the thousands holding up their mobile phones, as lights around the stadium in tribute to the veteran rocker – was then kept waiting for his pre-fight cameo of one song: ‘Stay With Me Tonight.’

The heated hand-wrap issue in the dressing room delayed not only rocking Rod but the fight. The vehemence of the protest might have been part of the Fury attempt to rattle Klitschko.

If so, Lennox Lewis, at ringside as an analyst for German TV, put it into perspective by saying: ‘They may be trying to unsettle him but to Wladimir, after all his fights, it will be just a delay which might make him even more determined.’

Fury advanced half-way across the ring during the national anthems to grin and grimace at Klitschko. He continued dancing and prancing about the ring during Michael Buffer’s Ready to Rumble introductions.

He answered the first bell by racing across the ring and had the best of the early exchanges, landing some exploratory left hooks. He also landed some jabs between feinting and making Klitschko miss, and won the round surprisingly comfortably.

Fury had come in light, and his foot, as well as hand, speed was bothering Klitschko. A right-left combination forced Klitschko into a clinch and Fury banked another round, to perturbed silence among the German majority in the stadium.

He began tormenting Klitschko with his Ali-esque dancing and was proving difficult for the long-time champion to hit. With Fury more concerned with bamboozling his opponent and both men missing, neither landed the punches to win the round.

Fury broke the stalemate with a lunging charge but failed to connect properly and thereafter did not throw enough punches to prevent Klitschko stealing the round.

Fury was making the dominant heavyweight of the past decade look slow and awkward but he needed telling punches to make it count. When he tried to up the work rate he was caught by Klitschko’s first big right of the night.

Each landed heavy rights – and both took them. As did Fury when Klitschko clipped him near the end.

The Brit had been warned for punching the back of the head but now he patted him on the backside in a clinch and laughed at Klitschko. The champion could only grimace back as a cut on his left cheek, probably from a clash of heads opened wider. Again a narrow win for Fury on my card.

Fury came out without his gum-shield initially but the delay was brief and he had slightly the better of an ugly round, by courtesy of the clipping right which followed two good jabs.

His elusive movement was making it so difficult for Klitschko to land his trademark right but he was missing with his own. When Klitschko did connect heavily the home crowd came to, although Fury merely smiled.

Fury’s corner went wild when he landed a heavy right of his own but Klitschko took that, too.

Fury needed to re-impose his jab to retain control but was rocked by two in quick succession from Klitschko. More followed and Klitschhko was closing.

Klitschko came out in an urgent effort to save the titles he has held for so long. Fury was slowing somewhat and the punches he did throw were not landing cleanly.

The 39-year-old was cut again, this time above the right eye. Perhaps vitally, Fury had a point deducted by American referee Tony Weekes for punching the back of the head. That turned a winning round for Fury into an even one.

Perhaps sensing the officials might be against him, Fury went for broke in the last. Klitschko responded with a huge effort of his own and rocked Fury in the corner.

It was a grandstand finish with the crowd going willd. Two more huge blows had Tyson reeling, holding, and almost gone. It had been a tremendous effort by the giant Mancunian and I had him winning by two points.

Malawi’s Light heavyweight Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba defeated Cory “Black Ice” Cummings in the seventh round.

Isaac is rated (23-2-2, 10 KO’s) while Cumming (17-7-1, 13 KO’s)

Early in the fight both fighters appeared evenly matched. Cummings who is much shorter than Chilemba but the height difference did not appear to bother Black Ice.

Cummings connected a hard right to Chilemba’s chin in the fifth. Isaac came out with a much fighting spirit in the sixth.

Cummings’ left eye was starting to swell closed in the later rounds before referee, Eric Dali, stopped the fight at 2:28 in the seventh round to give Chilemba the victory via TKO.

Isaac Chilemba declared after the fight, “I feel good. It was a good fight. He was well prepared for the fight. He came out strong and took some of my best shots until he just couldn’t take anymore.

I want a title shot next. He called out Canadian based Jean Pascalto be his next victim; I am hoping to get a chance at him or chance at hard hitting russian Kovalev next.” His manager, Jodi Solomon added, “I am really proud of Isaac. The work he put in has really paid off and we just need to keep pushing harder. If he keeps pushing I think he is capable of anything.”

The former IBO world champion at super middleweight and former WBC International champion at light heavyweight, Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba will battle Russian boxer, Denis Grachev as part of a seven-fight card event in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on the 15th of March. The main fight of the event will be the Tomasz Adamek-Vyacheslav Glazkov battle for the IBF North American Heavyweight title at the Sands Casino Resorts, PA.

Isaac Chilemba held the African Boxing Union titles at both weights. “Golden Boy” has also been featured in the top ten in Ring Magazine’s ratings for light heavyweights. Isaac made his professional debut in Gauteng, South Africa on 19 October 2005 defeating Thamsanga Tindleni in the 2nd round of a 4 round contest. He compiled a run of eight successive victories before dropping a points decision to Willbeforce Shihepo on 5 July 2007 at the Emperor’s Palace in Gauteng. The reverse to Shihepo was immediately rectified in his next fight, again in Gauteng, on 21 November 2007 defeating Shihepo on points over six rounds. Two more fights followed in 2008 resulting in wins over David Basajjamivule and Chamunorowa Gonorenda before Chilembe got the opportunity to fight for the African Boxing Unions super middleweight championship on 13 September 2008. The fight for the title once again took place at the Emperor’s Palace and pitched the Malawian boxer against the experienced former Commonwealth champion Charles Adamu with “Golden Boy” winning the fight with a 12 round decision to lift the title.

British boxer Tony Bellew has admitted that his career was on the line when he faced South Africa based Malawian Isaac Chilemba in a rematch two weeks ago.

The two boxers drew in controversial circumstances late March but the Briton bounced back in fine style to beat the 26-year-old Chilemba on points at the 02 Arena on May 25.

Bellew has told Ringside that his victory over Isaac Chilemba saved him from a possible career meltdown.

Bellew revealed that he would have struggled to step back between the ropes had he lost to the Malawian.

“Everything was on the line [against Chilemba] and I would go as far as to say that if it didn’t go well that night, I don’t know if I could have got back in the ring,” said Bellew, whose only career defeat came in 2011 at the hands of fellow Brit Nathan Cleverly.

“I bullied Chilemba and proved that I am a better fighter than him.”

Bellew said he camped for 12 weeks in preparation for the rematch.

“Going through a camp for 12 weeks, having three days off and then going through another 10-week camp emotionally and physi- cally breaks you, while I also read and listened to everything the doubters had said.

“But I kept my head down until the fight and it felt like mission complete when I’d won – and I was really happy with the way I did the job second time around to get rid of Chilemba. I made him angrier than before, bullied him, roughed him up and dealt with him in every minute of every round – and proved that I am a better fighter than him.”

But Chilemba has disputed Bellew’s claims that he is better than him.
