Celebrated Zambian musician Wesley Chibambo, popularly known as Dandy Crazy, has passed away in the early hours of today at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka.

Dandy Crazy, who sustained multiple injuries in a road traffic accident on December 31, 2024, was admitted to UTH-Adult yesterday. He underwent emergency surgery but remained in critical condition despite the efforts of the medical team.

Nzeba Chanda, the public relations officer for UTH-Adult, confirmed the tragic news, stating, “Despite various treatment interventions, we regret to inform the public of Dandy Crazy’s passing. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and the nation as we mourn this loss.”

The accident, caused by a truck driver who initially fled the scene but later turned himself in, claimed the lives of four others, including another musician and a senior lecturer from Mulungushi University.

Dandy Crazy, known for his vibrant personality and slogan “Baska Baska,” rose to fame in early  2008 with hits like Bachelor and Nshapelele Panhila just to mention a few. His music resonated with many, making him a household name in Zambia.

Cannah Mafuli, a talented dancer from the Eagles Dance Crew based in Bangwe, Blantyre, has passed away following a motorcycle accident over the weekend.

Known for her exceptional dancing skills, Cannah had performed in numerous songs, including tracks by Jetu, Slyc and many more.

The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Cannah was traveling to Chiradzulu for a wedding engagement scheduled for Sunday. She was accompanied by a colleague, and the two were using a motorcycle.

Reports suggest that the rider lost control of the motorcycle at a certain point, allegedly attempting to avoid a drunk pedestrian. This caused the motorcycle to veer off into a dangerous area, leading to a crash where both passengers were thrown off.

Cannah was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for a few days, where she was receiving treatment. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries yesterday afternoon.

Her passing is a great loss to the dance community and all who knew her talents.

A large crowd of Malawians has gathered at Simon Hara village, located in the area of Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba District, to pay their final respects to Othaniel Hara, the former Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Second Vice President, who tragically lost his life in a road accident on Saturday at Edundu, also in Mzimba District.

Among the dignitaries in attendance are former Vice President Khumbo Kachali, Minister of Defense Harry Mkandawire, who is representing President Lazarus Chakwera, current FAM Second Vice President Lameck Zetu Khonje, former FAM President Walter Nyamilandu Manda, officials from the Super League of Malawi, Northern Region Football Association of Malawi, as well as several traditional leaders.

A burial ceremony is expected to take place later this afternoon. Hara’s untimely passing has left a void within the football fraternity, but his contributions will be remembered for years to come.

South African police officer identified as Constable Lesego Chuene Phefo (28), allegedly from the Mahikeng POPS, entered a house in Itsoseng, Zone 2, at around 03h30 in the morning and found his girlfriend having drinks with other men.

Tragically, Officer Phefo took out his gun and reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend Tlhalefo Setlhare and a friend Vumile Gcuku. Another male victim, Mojalefa Rakoma, was injured by gunshot wounds and was swiftly taken to the hospital.

Following the harrowing events, it is said that Constable Phefo then ended his own life.

A 27-year-old woman has taken her own life after her husband refused to accept responsibility for her pregnancy in Chinkhali Village, under Traditional Authority Mponera in Dowa District.

Spokesperson for Mponela police station Macpatson Msadala, has confirmed the sad development and he has identified the deceased as .

According Msadala, Salomy, had been married for the past four months and their marriage was marked by frequent disputes, leading the husband to ask her to leave, which she refused to do.

Msadala reported that around 5 p.m. yesterday on 22 October 2024, Salomy was found vomiting abundantly.

She was rushed to the hospital but died while receiving medical treatment the medical reports confirmed that she had ingested poison.

The deceased, left a letter that revealed the reason why she had to take her own life as it says her husband denied that he was the father of her unborn child she was having.

Salomy Richard hailed from Chinkhoma Village, under Traditional Authority Lukwa in Kasungu District.

In a tragic turn of events, Mr. Arnold Manda, a dedicated Students Welfare Officer at the University of Malawi (UNIMA), has passed away after sustaining severe injuries in a car accident that occurred yesterday in Dedza.

Manda was involved in the accident while returning from the burial of a fellow student who had gone missing and was later discovered deceased at Chiperoni Mountain in Zomba District.

Reports indicate that other passengers in the vehicle are in stable condition and receiving outpatient treatment at a local hospital.

Tragedy struck in Mzimba District as four boys have been burnt to death by wildfire at Kanjuchi when they went hunting in Mbulumbudzu hills in the district.

The boys, who have been identified as Shaban Nkhoma 11, James Mbewe 15, Denis Mbewe 11 and Misheck Lingison 13 went missing on September 18, 2024 after knocking off from school and the parent thought they had gone hunting as usual.

Jenda Police spokesperson MacFarlane Mseteka reported that efforts were made to locate the boys, but they were only found on Thursday night, tragically burned to death in the forest alongside the dog they had taken with them.

A medical report confirmed that the boys died due to severe burns, with suspicions that they accidentally started the fire themselves but were unable to escape once it spread out of control.

Three of the boys were from the same family, while the fourth was from a different household.

One child has died and three others have been admitted to Nkhotakota District Hospital after consuming food they bought from a local restaurant in Nkhotakota district.

The incident has happened at Chikapa village the area of Traditional Authority Mphonde in the district who has confirmed the sad development.

However, Nkhotakota police spokesperson, Paul Malimwe, said that results from the hospital’s examination of the deceased child’s body revealed that the death was not caused by the food they ate.

“It was a natural death because the hospital found no traces of poison after examining the body. As for those admitted, you may want to ask the hospital for more details,” Said Malimwe.

A Chingola nurse in Zambia has been found lifeless suspected to have committed suicide in a her flat.

It is being reported that the body was found lifeless by her mother and her brother when they went to visit her.

There were unknown substance, syringes and a cannula found near her body.

According to the police on the Copperbelt, the deceased, Sibongile Zimba, worked at Nchanga South Hospital.

Her body, on which no physical injuries were observed, was found on Sunday in her flat when the mother went to visit.

A postmortem will be conducted to determine her death but suicide is suspected.

There was an outpouring of grief yesterday following the death of University of Zambia (UNZA) third-year student Margaret Chibesakunda, who was electrocuted in her room on Saturday night.

Ruling UPND deputy media director Cheelo Katambo said UNZA management should redeem itself over the death of Ms Chibesakunda, who was electrocuted while attempting to plug her phone for charging.

The incident occurred around 21:30 hours at October Block 2, room 23 at the UNZA Great East Road campus.

Ms Chibesakunda, who was studying public administration, sustained severe burns on her neck, right elbow, and leg.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said Chelston Police Station received a report of electrocution from Mwanja Daka, who is a registered nurse at UNZA Clinic.

“Following the unfortunate event, there was a spontaneous demonstration by UNZA students, obstructing the Great East Road with stones and drums,” Mr Hamoonga said.

“In response, police officers swiftly intervened to restore public order. The students were urged to mourn within the campus premises rather than disrupting public order.

Fortunately, the students complied with the advice and returned to the university grounds.”

UNZA registrar Theresa Chalwe said necessary measures have been instituted to ensure that professional investigations are conducted by the police and other relevant authorities to ascertain the cause of death.

Eight imbibers have died while five have been to the hospital after drinking alcohol suspected to have been poisoned in Manase Township of Blantyre.

It is being reported that on Saturday morning, victims including the deceased, were drinking beer knows as Magagada (Ambuye Mtengeni) at a certain drinking joint called Adisababa in the Township.

After taking the alcohol, the imbibers started to experience strange signs as there were vomiting in their bodies like vomiting and they were taken to hospital were some pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Blantyre Director Health and Social Services Dr. Gift Kawalazira has condemned the development and said that it has shown that the beer was contaminated after conducting their investigations.

However, Blantyre District Health Office (DHO) says it is still investigating the cause of death of people who died after taking alcohol suspected to be poisoned.

The office, has confirmed the death and said five are now in intensive unit at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

In a quick response to the devastating issue, Southern police department have started arresting unlicensed beer sellers in the city to cease the situation of selling untested beer.

Malawi has been struggling with the illicit sale of cheap alcohol mostly consumed by unemployed young men and some minors.

Several types of cheap beer have been banned in the past, but authorities have not succeeded in having them completely eliminated from the market.
