A 33 year old woman who’s suspected of dumping a newly born baby in Madanjala Forest in Ntchisi on November 29, 2024 has been arrested.

Ntchisi Police spokesperson Salomy Zgambo has confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press.

Zgambo said the suspect will answer charges of dumping a minor.

The suspect hails from Traditional Authority Njombwa in Kasungu.

Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that angry residents in Nkolokosa Township in Blantyre have stoned to death a thief who was caught red-attending stealing from parked car.

The suspect has been identified as Chikondi Selemani, popularly known as Yellow B.

It is said that the suspect has been terrorizing the community for sometime now by breaking into cars and stealing various items in the area.

Last night he also attempted to do the same but unfortunately the owner of the car saw him and shouted for help, resulting into his apprehension.

Instead of handing him over to the law enforcers, the angry residents took the law into their own hands by assaulting him to death.

The body of the suspected thief has since been take to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for postmortem.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The girl went missing yesterday evening and was found dead this morning.

Earlier the villagers stormed the police unit demanding the release of the people suspected of killing the girl to deal with them.

Later one the community members invaded the mortuary where the body of the girl was being kept and retrieved it.

The villagers took the body and dumped it at the police station.

Kenyan senators have voted to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office despite his failure to testify at his impeachment trial after his lawyer said he had been taken to hospital.

In one of the most dramatic days in Kenya’s recent political history, Gachagua had been due to appear in the Senate after lunch to defend himself, a day after he had pleaded not guilty to 11 charges.

However, Gachagua, popularly known as Riggy G, did not show up and his lawyer requested a postponement saying his client was suffering from chest pains and was being treated by doctors at The Karen Hospital.

Senators chose to continue the trial without him, prompting the defence team to leave the chamber.

The senators’ refusal to delay proceedings until Saturday – as long as would have been legally allowed – shows how determined they were to get rid of Gachagua, several months after he fell out with President William Ruto.

Last week, an overwhelming majority of MPs in the National Assembly – the lower house of parliament – voted to impeach him, setting the stage for his two-day trial in the Senate.

Gachagua, a wealthy businessman from the vote-rich central Mount Kenya region who was present in the house in the morning, has described the impeachment as a “political lynching”.

Police have arrested Vitumbiko Mhango, a 36-year-old primary school teacher, in connection with an Amazon online scam.

Deputy National Police Public Relations Officer Harry Namwaza has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to this publication.

According to Namwaza, the suspect allegedly defrauded customers by collecting K2.4 million for goods that were never delivered.

A police officer identified as Twalick Mpaweni is in custody in Zomba for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in exchange for her release from cell.

The victim name withheld was arrested for allegedly stealing clothes but was allegedly freed at night after offering her body to the officer.

The girl took a police flag with her after release, and upon being questioned, she revealed that she got it for warmth.

She revealed further that Mpaweni released her after offering her body to the suspect.

The matter occurred in 2023 and was investigated by the Independent Commission Complaints Commission.

Her relatives have confirmed of the development in an a statement made available to this publication.

According to the statement, the girl went missing on Tuesday around 3 pm

“Help to spread this message, I am look for my 17 year old sister Sheba Pumbwa yemwe wachoka kunyumba ku Area 23 dzuro ndipo komwe walowera sitikukudziwa.

“Wasowa dzulo chama 3:00,” reads part of the statement.

The matter has since been reported to police.

The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has accused President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of practicing nepotism in the recruitment of police officers.

The claims by DPP follows a pass out parade held on Friday last week in all police training schools in the country with the main event being held at Mtakataka.

In a statement signed by DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba seen by this publication, the party claimed that out of 2001 police officers, 1222 came from central region.

Namalomba said 459 newly recruited police officers came from Southern region while the remaining 320 officers came from the North.

“This is clear indication that President Chakwera is prioritizing regionalism and tribalism over meritocracy and fairness.

“The DPP condemns this shameless display of nepotism in the strongest terms possible,” reads in part the statement signed by Namalomba.

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has confirmed of the kidnapping of the British national at Falls in the capital Lilongwe.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu has confirmed of the development an identified the victim as Muhammad Kasiman.

According to Chigalu, Kasiman is one of the top officials at Universal Industries.

Chigalu said Kasiman met his fate as he was coming from the mosque. The kidnappers blocked the road, forcing to disembark from his Fortuner car before being forced to board a Toyota Noah.

Meanwhile, the law enforcers have recovered a cell phone of the victim.

Well-known music producer from Blantyre Chiyanjano Mbeza has been arrested by the law enforcers for unknown reasons.

Brother to the music producer, Ganizani Mbeza has confirmed of the development saying the law enforcers confiscated his two cell-phones and studio equipment before arresting him on Monday night at HHI.

Mbeza said the law enforcers are yet to brief the family where Chiyanjano is, despite several efforts.

“Pakadali pano, Chiyanjano salinso ku Mangochi chifukwa abale omwe adapitako sanamupeze ndipo tikupempha apolisi kuti atiwauze komwe kuli m’bale wathu kuti tizitha kukamuona,” said Mbeza.

Chiyanjano’s family including his wife are currently camping at Area 30 police headquarters in Lilongwe.

Rumours have it that Chiyanjano has been arrested on suspicion that he is the man behind the Bakili Muluzi tv.

Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola Mdooko has described the ongoing Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations as impressive, saying everything is going as planned.

She made the remarks on Tuesday after appreciating the progress of the examination at Ngowe Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Lilongwe.

Mdooko said that she is satisfied with the commencement of the exams, adding that in some centres, girls are topping the list in terms of numbers.

“Depending on the schools I have visited today, we can say that so far the exams have started on a high note, and we hope we are going to end successfully.

“The organisation has been great, the invigilation is on point and we have tightened up the security in all schools,” said Mdooko.

She further said her Ministry is working together with the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and Malawi Police Service (MPS) to provide security.

“We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the security agencies in the country. We are hoping that there will be no issues of cheating in the examinations process this year. MDF is securing all examinations storage facilities while MPS will be providing security in all examination centres,” she said.

This year, 163,950 students are writing the exams, whereas 168,219 sat for the exams last year.

This year’s JCE exams started on June 4 and will end on June 13.
