MCP wants international observers ahead of 2014 polls

The leadership of the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is urging a team of international observer to come and monitor the whole electoral process in the run up to the 2014 tripartite elections.

This according to according to the party’s director of research Joseph Njobvuyalema will ensure that the elections are free and fair.

Njobvuyalema says observers have, in the past elections, not given an accurate report of the polls as they were not monitoring the whole process.

Njobvuyalema has told the media that the monitoring should start from registration through to the polling day and until when the results are announced.

“The international observer missions like the SADC, EU and so forth usually have submitted premature reports during an election,” Njobvuyalema

“Even way before election counting has completely they come up with a report that the election was free and fair, which indicated that it was premature. But we expect that they will be involved in the elections.”

Meanwhile, the party is urging other electoral stakeholders to intensify civic and voter education to avoid more null and void votes.
