“We’re sorry, we won’t kill again,” says DPP’s Mutharika.

DPP torchbearer in the 2014 tripartite elections and a brother to former President, Bingu wa Mutharika, has apologized to the people of the Northern region for the July 20, 2011 killings by the Police on unarmed citizens in the reign of the DPP.

Speaking in his meetings in which he has been touring the Northern region, Mutharika said that he regrets that the killings took place and said that they would not happen again.

“We must acknowledge that bad things happened and accept that it was an accident; however, we say sorry for that and promise that it will not happen again,” said Mutharika of the infamous July 20 killings which had seen many casualties in the Northern region city of Mzuzu. Ironically, it was the same region that had, in the 2009 General elections, gave the late Mutharika an overwhelming support.

Currently, Mutharika is the Northern region touring various districts as he drums up support for his 2014 Presidency bid.
