FLAMES BEAT BENIN TO PROGRESS TO THE NEXT ROUND OF 2015 AFCON CAMPAIGN

Malawi National team the flames on Saturday outclassed Benin in 2015 Africa Cup of nation qualifiers through penalties to progress to the next round.

The match was played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre and Benin lost 1-0.This was a second leg match.

Throughout the first half, flames dominated as they were the first to leach on the ball and no wonder 13 minutes of the first half Malawi scored a goal through winger John Banda.

Malawi, who are 16 places below Benin on the Africa rankings list, remained on the front foot for the rest of the game but were unable to break through again, leaving the match to be decided on spot-kicks.

The first penalty was taken by Benin through Stephane Sessegnon who missed and this gave flames an added advantage as they won 4-3.

The win assured the flames of pressing to the next round of 2015 African Cup of Nation qualifying campaign to be played in Cameroon.

Malawi is in group B and will face Mali, Ethiopia and Algeria.
