FAST JET SUSPEND OPERATIONS IN MALAWI OVER ECONOMIC CRISIS

Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that Tanzanian based Airline, Fast Jet has suspended its frying route to Malawi due to the economic down turn.

The development comes barely a week after People’s Trading Centre also announced that it is closing 20 shops across the country due to loses anchored as a result of the continued depreciation of the kwacha against major foreign currencies.

Officials from Ulendo safari who were managing operations of the airline locally confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to officials, the decision has been arrived at due to continued depreciation of the Kwacha and that government has refused them an additional route to Chileka International Airport in Blantyre-Malawi’s commercial capital.

Meanwhile Fast Jet officials are scheduled to make a statement on the matter today.

On Friday, one of the leading mobile service providers in the country, Airtel Malawi Limited disclosed that it will lay-off some of its workers as part of re-positioning exercise.
