Police helps convict to escape from jail

Information reaching FaceofMalawi indicate that a convict has escaped from Mangochi prison with the help of the police officers.

According to information at hand, the convict identified as James Raphael, 46 was slapped 18-months jail sentence by a magistrate court for burglary on 7 January 2016 but the convict was never handed to Mangochi prison by the Police.

In an interview with the press, Mangochi Police spokesperson Rodrick Maida said he is not aware of the development.

Court documents at Chimwala Magistrate Court confirmed that James Raphael was indeed given the said sentence on January 7th 2016.

On his part, Malawi Prison Service Spokesperson Smart Maliro for Mangochi denied having an inmate with such a name.

Meanwhile the whereabouts of the suspects is not known at the moment.
