MRA officers confiscate two vehicles of Kamlepo Kalua

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on Wednesday confiscated two vehicles belonging to outspoken Rumphi East Member of Parliament Kamlepo Kalua.

MRA seized Toyota Land Cruiser V8 registration number KA8966 and Mercedes Benz registration number RU5437 from Kalua after a search at his residential houses following a tip-off from concerned Malawians.

Tax body’s spokesperson Wilmer Chalulu confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying Kalua trickled MRA when registering the vehicles.

According to Chalulu, Kalua registered the Land Cruiser V8 as Nissan Vanette in the Directorate of Road Transport and Safety Services’ MALTIS system while the registration number for the Mercedes Benz RU5437 does not exist in the system.

Meanwhile Kalua has described the search as political orchestrated by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
