Eight people are battling for their lives at Nkhotakota District Hospital while several others have been treated as outpatients after a bus they were travelling was involved in an accident at Nabvunde Bridge in Nkhotakota.
Nkhunga Police spokesperson Labani Makalani confirmed of the accident in an interview with the press, saying the accident happened last night.
According to one of the passengers who escaped without sustaining any injury, said the bus which belongs to Chinjoka Bus Services was travelling from Lilongwe to Nkhata-Bay.
He said the driver of the bus was trying to avoid a head on collision with a truck which was passing the Bridge which has one lane.
The eyewitness overturned three times before falling in the Nabvunde River.
Meanwhile the driver of the bus is on the run.
