LUANAR student dies after being beaten by police during electricity demonstrations

A first year student from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) Prince Kamwaza is reported dead after being beaten by police during electricity demonstrations.

Kamwaza was among the 46 students arrested by the police in the capital Lilongwe last week and was severely beaten.

The student was later taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) where he died on Saturday.

Bunda Students Union (BSU) President Rainford Kainga confirmed of the death in a statement posted on his official facebook page seen by faceomalawi reporter.

“I regret to announce the death of Prince Kamwaza, who until his death was a first year student doing BSC in Soil Science.

“Prince died today Saturday at around 11:30am at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Kainga.

Meanwhile the body of Kwamwaza has been taken to his home village in Salima for burial.
