Malawi’s renowned legendary musician and also a TV personality, Annie Matumbi has announced he has with immediate effect joined politics.

Annie Matumbi

Matumbi whose real name is Chiyanjano muyeziwa has announced of his interests to join politics yesterday and he intends to contest for a parliamentary seat for Lilongwe City South West constituency on a ticket of the current ruling DPP despite himself being from Thyolo district.

The country has since witnessed a number of talented people joining politics in readiness for the impending 2019 general elections.

Last year in December, the Malawi national football team former captain, Peter Mponda also announced his switch from football to politics.

Speaking to the press, Mponda said he is to contests for a parliamentary seat in Blantyre City South Constituency in the coming 2019 polls with an aim to empower youths.

A moth down the line, another legendary footballer by the name Fisher Anong’a Kondowe also surprised people after he disclosed that he had joined politics and will contests as Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South Constituency.

According to Fischer, most MPs that are elected in his constituency do not know the needs of the people since they haven’t grown up in the area hence that made him to pick up the challenge.

“We don’t have good roads here and most youth have nothing to do. I know what youths need here and with the little something that I have I can find ways of making them have something to do,” Fischer added.

Meanwhile, Malawians are still waiting to see another notable figure joining politics as the trend seems to prolong.
