Chilima Challenges Ansah ‘You will resign’

United Transformation Movement (UTM) president Saulos Chilima has challenged Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah that she will step down.

Chilima made the challenging sentiments during the UTM thank you rally at Mponda primary school ground in Zomba.

Chilima’s remarks came in barely few days after Ansah vowed not to resign in an exclusive interview with one of the media houses in the country.

In his speech, Chilima addressed Ansah as Mayi Madando.

“Mayi Madando, You said you will not resign, but let me tell you, you will step down,” Chilima challenged.

According to Ansah calling for her resignation, is mob justice.

She further called on Chilima and the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to hold their patience as the matter is still in court.

Speaking to his supporters, Chilima, urged them to join the forthcoming vigils that the CSOs have organized under the banner Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC).

Few weeks ago HRDC organized nationwide demonstrations which aimed at forcing Ansah and all MEC commissioners to step down for mismanaging May 21 elections, which proved futile.

Meanwhile, HRDC have organized vigils on July 4 and 5 calling for Ansah’s resignation.
