Wife Builds Pub in Back Garden to Stop Husband Drinking Out

A woman got so fed up of her husband nipping down to their local pub that she decided to build one in their back garden to keep him at home, Mirror reports.

Sometimes there’s nothing better than ending a long, hard day at the pub, chatting with your pals, a cold beer in hand.

But there are definitely a few of us who are guilty of staying a little too long and drinking a little too much.

Paul Tapper, an engineer from Newton Abbot in Devon, has always been a big fan of visiting his local, much to the annoyance of his wife, Jayne.

Finally, she decided enough was enough, and built her very own pub right in the middle of their back garden in an attempt to keep her husband from sneaking off for a drink.

Jayne, 48, has hilariously chosen to name the pub The Doghouse Inn.

The mum-of-three, who works as a nurse, says it gives a whole new meaning to being “in the doghouse” and plans to use the pub to host parties as well as for spending chilled nights at home.

“My husband Paul had always loved popping down to our local, and I could never seem to keep him at home,” she explained.

“And so I got thinking – why not create my own pub, become my own landlady and then I can really tell people – my husband’s in the doghouse!”

The whole thing didn’t come cheap though, as they first spent £15,000 having the garden levelled out, before forking out around £2,700 for the initial build of the cabin.

When it came to decorating, they tried to do things as cheaply as possible using social media and resale sites, but Jayne couldn’t resist spending £100 on a church pew for seating.

She also splurged £650 on a space invader game to give the place an authentic pub feel.

Can’t say we blame her, the place looks very cool!

The pub is proving a hit with their kids, Tom, 31, Lorren, 24 and Jack, 26, who think it will save them money on alcohol in the long run – and even Paul is enjoying it.

“Paul will even bring round his mates now and we always seem to be busy,” Jayne added.

“I’m always finding things for the little pub, and it’s not just become a man cave as such for Paul – I love using it too and I’d quite happily spend most nights in there.

“It’s great to chill in and it really does feel like I’m in my local!”
