Huawei donates K7m ICT equipment to govt

Chinese Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) equipment manufacturer, Huawei Technologies, on Friday donated assorted gadgets to the Office of President and Cabinet’s e-Government department.

The company said the equipment comprising 20 , printers and internet dongles is worth K7 million.

Speaking when handing over the equipment, Huawei Technologies Key Account Director Titus Tasosa said the donation was a way of giving back to the people they serve.

“We are a responsible corporate citizen. We have a philosophy of going at it local and doing it local. We believe it is important to give back to the community to which we have been part of. Assisting school-going children is fundamental to the future development of this country,” Tasosa said.

In her response, Principal Secretary for e-Government in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) Hawa Ndilowe said the donation will help government in promoting ICT in the country.

“Government would like to promote ICT in various sectors. One such sector is the education sector. That’s why today we are sending part of the donation to schools,” Ndilowe said.

She urged other companies to emulate Huawei’s gesture by donating of ICT materials.

Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Pan Hejun most of his country’s enterprises have been established for long-term sustainable operations.

It was disclosed during the event that five computers will be distributed to five schools across the country and part of the donation was given to Kaundama Primary School.

Apart from the ICT equipment, the company will drill boreholes and toilets in some selected schools, including Kaundama Primary School.
