Chinese Stadium Back to Lilongwe

President Joyce Banda has directed that the Chinese funded state of the art stadium be built in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe and not in Blantyre as late President Bingu wa Mutharika had wanted.

Kamuzu Stadium: Malawi's only big stadium at the moment

Speaking in parliament on Friday when she presented her first state of the nation address, the President assured Malawians that the stadium will be in Lilongwe as was the original plan.

There were strong concerns after the late President unilaterally decided to have the stadium built in Blantyre and not in Lilongwe.

Many critics said Blantyre already has Kamuzu Stadium while Lilongwe has no international stadium hence the need to have the soccer facility in the capital city
