Callista stops late Mutharika’s children from evicting her

Malawi’s former first lady Callista Mutharika has obtained an injunction stopping her eviction from Ndata Farm – where late President Bingu wa Mutharika built a multi-million dollar mansion he named Casablanca Manor.

The injunction effectively stops registered trustees of Bineth Trust from interfering or evicting her until an inter -party hearing is heard today (Friday).

According to court documents, legal owners of Ndata farm had duly passed a resolution on October 11 this year that she vacates the premises within five days.

This also comes after Mutharika’s children went public last week to complain about how their step mother, Callista, was denying them access to their homestead in Thyolo, where Mutharika and their mother – Ethel, is buried.

“It saddens us deeply to be denied access to our homestead (The place of our parents are resting eternally) and threatened with police actions,” a statement signed by the three children said.

Mutharika married Callista on April 17, 2010, in a wedding bash many described as wasteful. He lost his first wife, Ethel to cancer while
he was in power.

Late Mutharika’s only son Madalisto Mutharika, Tapiwa Mutharika and Duwa Mutharika – Mubaira, said in a press statement last week that the former first lady physically attacked one of them at the farm.

The fight over the estate of the late President is slowly escalating into a legal battle as Callista tries to fights to have a share of the estate believed to be in millions of dollars.
