Water Aid donates water testing equipment to Poly

Date:

Water for People on Friday donated water testing equipment worth K6 million to the Department of Physics and Biochemical Sciences at The Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi.

Water for People Country Director Kate Harawa said the donation was one of the international NGO’s means of bringing portable water to all the people.

“As an organisation that supports efforts in the water and sanitation sectors, we realise that, in order to reach out to everyone, there is need to collaborate with institutions which share our vision. The Polytechnic is one such institution,” Harawa said.

Dean of Applied Sciences Nancy Chitera praised Water Aid for the donation, saying the equipment would help the department attain its goal of promoting professional knowledge in science and technology.

“We realise that, as an institution that strives to produce well-trained scientists, we may not achieve this goal if we have no equipment. It doesn’t matter how well-trained a scientist is, if there is no proper equipment, it means nothing,” Chitera said.

She said the equipment would not only help the institution, but also Malawians in general since its science graduates end up serving the nation.

The equipment included field test kits, chlorine test solution, Ammonia test solution, phosphate test solution, filtration apparatus, filter membrane and broth, pocket dissolved solids meter, among others.
