Stray Elephants Kill a 47 Year Old in Chikhwawa district

CHIKHWAWA: Stray elephants have caused havoc in the area of Traditional Authority Chapananga in Chikhwawa district, killing a 47 year old man in the process.

Project Manager of Majete Game Reserve Mr. Patricio Ndadzera has confirmed the development.

Mr. Ndadzera says authorities believe the elephants are from Mozambique as the fence around the game reserve remains intact.

“These elephants are not from Mejete, as you know Majete is fenced and we had no reports from any of our fence attendants that the fence is broken,” said Mr. Ndadzera.

Government rangers have since been deployed in the area to monitor the situation.

Mr. Ndadzera says authorities from Majete may however accommodate the elephants, 13 in total, in the game reserve until they are claimed.
