Veep Kachali tours Taifa market, meets ‘xenophobia’ victims

The Executive has moved in swiftly on the issue of Malawians being repatriated from Tanzania in what have been termed as xenophobic attacks by some quarters in the country yet other parts have decided to let them remain what the Tanzanian authorities say they are: routine exercise of flushing out illegal immigrants.

Vice President, Khumbo Kachali

, visited the Taifa market in Mzuzu this morning where most Tanzanians living in Malawi, whether legally or not, ply their trade. The market had been targeted by some Malawians living in the city as retaliation to the Tanzanians for treating fellow Malawians so unkindly.

The market was guarded by the police throughout the whole night.

Meanwhile, the Vice President who toured the Taifa market to make sure that he understands what is going on has assured Malawians that the government is going to make sure that all Malawians being repatriated from Tanzania are given all the support they need to establish a proper life back home.

The Vice President also heard testimonies, first hand, from people that have been repatriated from Tanzania. One of the victims told the President that women, their wives, were being raped in Tanzania prior to the deportations.
